I have a feeling he's literally Akihiko Kayaba who somehow managed to possess a real living human being and is attempting to create Sword Art Online to kill every NEET in the world.
He likes making games. He's answered this question many times. Early in his career he just saw games as a way to bring his filmic visions to life, but in the process he actually fell in love with game design because you can tell interactive stories with more of a 4th wall meta sort of quality with games.
Real answer?
He's too creative for the film industry. It would be too easy for him.
Even Anno got the chance to make live action movies despite only having experience as an anime director. Maybe Kojima is more cowardly than you guys think
yea there are 2 versions. The english one has his voice in the background but its mostly voiced by some guy I dont know and the host is some robot lady. I'd prefer to hear it subbed but I listen to these while hiking or driving.

I mean, if he couldn’t make the live action movie that he wanted in Japan because of resources he should have just made an anime to prove he was capable.
The reason we play video games is to experience what we can't in real life.
The core gameplay of Death Stranding is to carry cargo from point A to point B.
You do this every day of your life.
Don't walk blindly into bumpy and jagged rocks. Steep hills are tiring. You knew this as a child.
Why is a walking simulator acceptable for a AAA game?
There is a planning phase which is made redundant due to the strand system. Why would I bother bringing a ladder and rope if it's already there?
The traversal is brain dead easy. If you can hike in real life, you can hike in Death Stranding.
The combat is dull, boring, and frustrating.
Being stuck in the mud is the opposite of fun.
The boss fight/flight is braindead and boring.
It's just there to inconvenience you.
Buildings are reduced to a single motion of placing down a foundation, and then engaging in the mind-numbingly tedious job of dragging the materials to the foundation.
When you've placed your road, bridge, or zipline - you can then skip the walking and boss fights.
Have you heard of a game where its main objective was for the game to be skipped?
The end game then becomes: waiting for Sam to arrive at your new destination, drop your cargo, then get a thank you from the world's most boring NPCs.
Is this fun to you?
Is this an actual game?
Art criticism is subjective.
But if someone splashes some paint on a blank canvas and calls it art - I'm gonna have to call him out on his bullshit.
No, it's not some form of high art that only the most enlightened of individuals can understand.
The world of Death Stranding is empty, save for a number of distribution centers that look identical, and private rooms that also look identical.
Instead of giving us more cutscenes (the only thing good about this "game"), we are given exposition dumps upon exposition dumps in the form of journal entries.
The story is unique and fresh. The cutscenes look great.
But that alone is not what makes a game, a game.
Death Stranding sucks.
And Kojima is a hack and a fraud.
Common responses: >You didn't play the game.
Yes I did. >Filtered.
I'd hope so. Death Stranding is for morons. >Walking simulators are a valid game genre. There are others like it.
Death Stranding is a AAA game with massive hype and marketting surrounding it. But it was never marketted as a walking simulator. Because then interest in the game would vanish.
I have played smaller, indie walking simulators - and have enjoyed them because they were geniunely relaxing, and had stimulating puzzles to go with it.
Death Stranding is neither. Kojima drones say both: "It's relaxing!", and "It's not just walking! L-look, there's combat!". You can't have both.
It's not relaxing, nor are the challenges, actual challenges. The terrain and BTs are merely inconveniences. >Well I like it. Why are you raining on my parade?
It's bullshit that Kojima drones are enabling Kojima to shit out this crap. Walking simulators should be $5 max. Certainly not the full $60 or whatever. Definitely not AAA.
I'm writing this to those on the fence, those who haven't played Death Stranding yet.
I'm writing this so they don't get gaslighted into forcing themselves to enjoy a AAA walking simulator.
how am i a shill? >random youtube nobody game review >game intro, barely a sentence in >already pretends to fall asleep
i cant imagine anybody who doesnt suck dicks for a living enjoy watching such "reviews".
He knows he'll get laughed at. At least with games people just go "ah well, it's a Kojima game so it's gonna be WACKY AND WEIRD lol" when in reality it's just his shit writing and narcissism. He was, arguably, always a hack.
Literally all his best ideas are things that would only work in video games.
He would be a terrible movie director because it's a much more explored medium and his writing is honestly trash and it would be even more front and center.

I wonder what aspect of the game Kojima is going to be focused on today. For some reason, it's a bit weird to think about the fact that he's working on a game right now as we talk about him in this thread.
>gamings first true auteur >finito
He will never run out of funding. Be it Sony or whoever. Someone will always give him a couple hundred million to make a game.
>auteur
What a silly word, but if we’re going to use it, Suda and Taro have much higher highs than any kojimbo game (albeit much lower lows) point is they’re better than him
>What a silly word
It's not, you're just shying away from the directorial power of individual creatives overseeing a project because you're still insecure about games are legitimate art.
Nobody wants to fund his stupid ideas
This. Also, his writing sucks.
>Nobody wants to fund his stupid ideas
He lives in Japan, they would not make any piece of media without stupid ideas
Lmfao zoom zoom. Hideo Kojima is a literal genius. He's considered one of the best video game directors of all time. Cope.
>restricting the peak of criteria to 120 minutes
You have no vision.
He already tries. He's just bad at it. homosexual's got a hard on for Hollywood even though Hollywood is a shadow of its former self.
he clearly doesnt have a hardon for current hollywood. His newest game had Norman Reedus, who is a celebrity thanks to a series that came out in 2010.
why doesnt solid snake ever hiss?
He can't write to save himself and games make more money.
I have a feeling he's literally Akihiko Kayaba who somehow managed to possess a real living human being and is attempting to create Sword Art Online to kill every NEET in the world.
Nah, Todd will do it.
Because his games always had fun gameplay including 4 and DS
Based.
when you can't hack it making movies you make games
keep making these threads. he seethes because it's true that even hollywood will never give him a movie
he has been banned from hollywood for trying to gently brush against every male actors penis
Even Anno got the chance to make live action movies despite only having experience as an anime director. Maybe Kojima is more cowardly than you guys think
or maybe hollywood is too afraid of him showing that the emperor has no clothes by making an actual good film
I listened to episode 2 of his podcast and its basically an ad for Nope.
>I listened to episode 2 of his podcast and its basically an ad for Nope.
How does it work? Is there a Japanese version, which then an actor reads an English version for? Who is playing La Creativdad?
yea there are 2 versions. The english one has his voice in the background but its mostly voiced by some guy I dont know and the host is some robot lady. I'd prefer to hear it subbed but I listen to these while hiking or driving.

do you expect someone to argue with you? why would i, a fan of DS argue with you about how good the game is?
>random youtube homosexual reviewing a game
lmao that was hard to watch.
best game i played in years, cant wait for DS2.
The packaged wont deliver themselves, and i NEED TO KNOW what happens next.
Haha tell me you're a shill without telling me you're a shill

maybe

awful take
he has some good gameplay ideas but they get bogged down in his shit writing, as you say.
also he killed shinzo abe
Literally all his best ideas are things that would only work in video games.
He would be a terrible movie director because it's a much more explored medium and his writing is honestly trash and it would be even more front and center.
He'd truly be exposed as a hack.
At least "video games" give him a cover since people think less of the medium compared to film.
is he going to make a lycoris recoil videogame?

cringe
just pure cringe
i liked them
you and i, we are not going to be friends
Because Kojima is stupid enough to believe that israelites will allow him to make movies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vgt2J54iZOQ
Writing a game is probably nothing like writing a film
Try to imagine a movie with the pacing of a video game
calling kojima a hack is just about the most trite npc take you can spew. congrats Ganker
he is finito. move on
>gamings first true auteur
>finito
He will never run out of funding. Be it Sony or whoever. Someone will always give him a couple hundred million to make a game.
And make more garbage for woke pozzed and that love israelite pedowood trash. Thank you Konami for firing this fricking hack moron.
>woke pozzed and that love israelite pedowood trash.
jesus christ

He can't compete in an already established competitive industry
He had precedent in vidya and found his niche
>after 30 years, still best videogame director of all time
how did he do it?
By being more creative than the shitty American developers
What made him good in video games is the innovation and ideas you can only do in video games
He’s actually a competent game director but I feel that v needs a scapegoat to tolerate the current state of games so I won’t argue anymore
Smart man. It's not worth the energy. To piggyback off your point, I'm convinced that around 60% of the posters on Ganker don't even play video games.
Because movies are gayer than videos games
