its got the best setting, same as FFT and some of the FFXIV raids (ivalice raids in stormblood!)

      unequivocally not true.

      It was fricking boring

the protagonist is boring. vaan sucks. he's kind of just along for the ride. the game really picks up when you meet balthazar or fran.

If anything people get filtered by its simplicity, i.e. bored.

it is only simple if you dont set your party up properly. then again all ff games are simple. even the beloved ffx is literally just like. press attack and cheat turn order.

      good writing actually.

why dont they make grand scale single player MMOs like this anymore even ff7rebirth is more Ubisoft than Xenoblade.

Why are zoomers all of sudden choosing THIS as their go-to "retro" game of choice?
Is it because the main character is a twink beta simping for a princess which doesn't give a single shit about him?

they need to kill themselves tbh.

it's okay, and because it's relatively unpopular contrarians pretend it's amazing, but honestly it's kinda boring. gameplay is standard FF systems except in real time. the gambit system is fun to tinker with, but it's saying something when the game's signature mechanic is programing the game to play itself for you. And while it has the best world-building of any game in the series, every character except Balthier is dull

        frick xenoblade quest system
so many sidequests but many of them only became available after doing some other quest and then disappeared after progressing in the game. every npc moving around based on the ingame day time so you had to check every damn area like 12 times to make sure you got all the quests since they often stayed available only for 1-4 hours a day. then do that to every area pretty often if you didn't want to miss anything

          Anonymous

there were well over 100+ timed quests that had to be taken before they expire, most with different completed quest requirements for becoming available and npcs only being there at certain times of the day
gathering some rare materials was tedious as well

it just felt different. not a bad game but not what i expected from final fantasy at the time. it was like a solo mmo, some of the systems sucked and were tedious %-based stuff. the combat felt too different as well

then there was shit like chaining enemy kills when grinding for some low drop chance stuff that has 1% chance of dropping otherwise
enemies having a % of spawning when entering an area or requiring x amount of kills of a certain enemytype and re-entering the zone
most of the chests being random
there was some weapon that dropped only from a rare enemy that only spawned after killing 100 of a certain enemy and rezoning and the chance of it actually dropping was low so it might have taken multiple hundred kills to get

tldr: it was grindy if you were a perfectionist and the combat felt too different

      >excluding the blank blob MC
i remember thinking it would've been better if his brother were the MC, but it's been a long time since i played so i'm not sure if that feeling would hold up now, but it does kinda make sense
      >bishonen pretty boy soldier goes on adventure, teaming up with other experienced soldiers/royalty/adventurers
      >vaan and penelo remain bumpkins who stay back in hometown cheering from the sidelines
but i guess then the "teenagers who kill god"-quota wouldn't be met because without those two the party would be entirely adults
(not that i entirely dislike vaan and penelo, it's just an idea i remember having when i played)

Why do I always show up late to the FFXII threads? Anyways, the superb localization alone makes this game god tier.

    https://www.vg247.com/a-voice-for-ivalice-the-localization-and-voice-acting-of-final-fantasy-xii

I used to give the localizers the bulk of the credit, but going back and playing in Japanese, the VAs there are also subdued and lacking the overacting of other Japanese dubs. Basically, Team Ivalice nailed their tone. The open world was practically seamless. Yeah, there are loading zones, but no two areas are connected in a way that isn't logical. Figuring out how to get broken gear early was hella fun and a far more engaging way to break the game than abusing Triple Triad in VIII was.

My only gripe is how easy the game has become with successive iterations. The difficulty was toned down for IZJS and never bumped up to accommodate dual jobs in TZA. Heck, I'd argue IZJS didn't need the nerf to begin with.

Anyways, I've played the game to hell and back. Best in the series, bar none.

Ff12 is my favourite of the ff series. The combat system alone makes it the most rewarding.

Admittedly the game does suffer from odd over world bloat and pacing issues. But these are easily fixed with a few mods.

I’m currently playing with a mod that overhauls the encounters and drop rates, making what you equip much more important and tactical.

I literally cannot think of another ff where I’ve had more fun and actually want to replay it over and over.

    1. The story and characters are really weak as a result of Squeenix fricking with it too much in development. Everything between when Basch joins your party a couple of hours in until you get to Archadia at the end of the game is filler where nothing happens.
    2. The gambit system is bad in the sense that you only need to tweak your gambits once or twice in the entire story; it only starts to get fleshed out in the side content
