imagine being so weak that you have to piss in a bottle instead of getting up and walking to the bathroom
What happened to Ganker
you guys have changed
Standing up and going to the bathroom to take a piss may be the only thing standing between forming a blood clot for many people here so it's not to be taken lightly.
imagine flushing your valueable piss down the toilet, (and letting the government extract your DNA from it) yeah no thanks, im not a sheeple.
The warm piss can warm up your room during the cold winter days, and you can use it to feed your plants or filter it and drink it!
That’s better, good to see the spirit is still here and not this gay
what the fuck
I've always been deathly afraid of ending up this, so I make sure my place is super clean.

Gottem
i don't get it, dad?
I'm a 3rd worlder I already have one , Thomson
although it's been 15 years since the last time I used it
>Touch monitor while wearing woolen socks
>Die
that's a very weird way to say that you never owned one
It's not a touchscreen, zoomer
zoomers in this thread never tried touching it don't bother man
"Yet", he says. Betraying the fact he is an utter zoomer that didn't own one 2 decades ago
this
i already used one for 15 years straight now have glasses and eye cancer
You might want to blame your parents genetics anon
Game name?
It hurts my eyes.
Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri
why we can't have another alpha centauri
beyond earth was boring in comparsion
Yeah but can't use it for my PC because it only works with an RGB AV cable. Would need an RGB to HDMI or vice versa conversor so I will most likely suffer imput lag. Wish I could just plug my RGB cable in the computer.
This lol I have a pretty decent JVC and I'd love to use my PC on it, but I'd need to find a way to connect the two that completely ruin the experience
A quality DAC can be really quick. You could also get a secondary GPU just to output video, but that introduces problems sometimes.
why would i want that
because i live in a 3rd world country where most crt monitors went straight into the trash
i'm jealous of yuros (especially krauts) who can find one of these literally anywhere in their country
I do
this
my 60inch 4k oled does everything I need a screen to do
if it breaks, I just need to walk into a store and I can walk out with something that is at least just as good without tinkering with it or worrying about being scammed
Same. Own a crt and an oled.
My oled is fuck huge, so I use my n64 on the crt, but my og xbox is on the oled. Looks and plays perfectly and cant really tell a diference on the input lag. This is with a converter on the oled and scart on the crt.
What crt filter is this, it looks so kino
crtroyale?
Because I’m not a massive fucking cringelord.
You are for not having one
I already had my fill of CRT monitors back in early 00s.
I am planing to buy PC CRT once I get a new table this weekend. Hopefully I'll be able to find at least 19 inch display. And I already have normal CRT, of which I should probably get rid off, I haven't used it in two years or so.
I picked up a cheapo 14" one more for old TV than games recently but I'm happy enough with it that I'll probably invest in a nicer set sometime soon.
What's with the sign?
I like Quatermass and the Pit.
manlet
Epic shame closet. It was very nice of your wife to let you have that corner all to yourself. I dare you to let a guest see it.
I've never had a guest and I lived alone for 9 years now and I don't see either of those changing anytime soon.
they arent worth the hassle and crt filters mantain the aesthetic made fir crt screens.
Was very glad when I finally got rid of these hot, heavy, bulky, dim, heaps of junk.
Even if they were reproduced with 100% better specs than modern monitors I still wouldn't buy one. Good riddance.
Reproduced with better specs? They already have better graphics than modern OLEDs even lol
>100% better specs
What? THey re near flawless, only the LCD LED stuff introduced a bunch of flaws.
>OMG FINALLY NEW OLED TECHNOLOGY NO FLAWS
>hrmm actually the blacks are super dark and its filled to the brim with black crush but hey, you can compensate by ruining the gamma levels if you want to !
>btw that'll be 1000 bucks
muh blacks in a dark room bro
Man i forgot how fucking annoying they sound when they are turned on.
Thats the biggest reason i dont want one. Are there crts without the high pitched tinitus sound?
But the little squares have sovl. Sovl is worth a 40-lb, tube-filled, deep-as-it-is wide, hunk of plastic on your desk that produces an audible electric hum while it's on.
>yet
I own three, and they still all work, and are still the pieces of shit they were when I bought them.
and a measurable electromagnetic field, and they get hot easily, and they emit ozone.
such nostalgia.
>and they emit ozone
thats right gay fuck your ozone layer cunt i have some castlevania to play
What sound ?
I dont remember this.
lol earlet
>t.sperg or women
It’s not that loud, 15khz is the tone you’re talking about https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACGo5pMr8xAbut it’s this but just make sure you don’t have it super loud as its not realistically going to be very loud
31khz CRTs are silent
you can hear VGA crts if they are low enough refresh rate, one of the reasons why 75hz was so common on even mediocre ones by the year 2000 as 50-60hz was about the cutoff where it stopped being audible to even the most sensitive ears so having a bit extra made sure.
Mate that’s 31khz, it’s not audible to humans
The 75hz refresh rate was a thing because of flicker and minimising it
If they made a sound I sure as fuck couldn't hear it, because my piece of shit 1,4 ghz Pentium 4 512 mb 80 gig harddrive machine had the absolute worst power supply imaginable, that thing was loud all day long and I did not know this until I got a new computer 5 years later. I just accepted the constant noise because the early 2000s internet, Half-Life mods and everything else was so much goddamn fun ... and now I just want to die every day. Writing this from my boring work place because I have nothing to do.
I have one for retro games, but I still prefer Retroarch with accurate shaders. It's just more convenient.
I have some.
I had 5 of them ~20 years back, threw all of them in the trash once flatscreens became affordable, kinda regret it now tbqh
>tfw bought a 14M4U in 2015 for $70
i can't believe how the market is now, absolutely ridiculous
I can still hear in my mind the buzzing, beeping sound the CRT tvs made. Like some fucking animal ultrasound shit. I get it, retro games look best on them, but...
Nobody ever mentions how annoying it was using one once 16x9 became standard. Watching a movie was even worse
i have a sinden. no need.
Sorry I don't like cancer
Imagine regressing back just to be quirky and special.
this, you didn't buy a flat screen just because it saved space did you anon?
Thats not the reason though, we use them because games look objectively better on them
that's like instagram girls using older smartphones because their camera makes less detailed photos, so viewers can't see the defects on their skin
Thats cope
What looks better looks better, thats what matters for gaming monitors
They also had 0 ms input lag unlike any modern screen, just feels way better to game on crt
Sorry you were born retarded
did i hit a nerve?
By seething at my facts?
OLED looks better for modern games ofc but they suck ass
OLED absolutely does not look nearly as good as CRTs for retro games
>you're right but i don't like it so i'm right
Learn to read, I explained why I am right
Nope, all 3D retro games look far superior on CRTs too
You have never used one zoomer
Dude a crt was my main television up till 2013
*retro games with specific sprite work
Give me 8k emulated 3d ps1 games on oled any day of the week
And 100% of people would say a 65 inch OLED looks better but let's just ignore that because it has 1ms of input lag
Would love to.
Not enough space.
I wonder why there isn't ONE manufacturer concentrating on CRT monitors, they'd make killing selling CRTs to retro enjoyers around the world.
I own it. It has the blooming problem though. Got to check the hv line.
>yet
How do you know someone uses a CRT? Don't worry, they'll tell you.
I do but my windows 98 PC somehow is missing the hard disk so I have to find where the hell I put it before I can do anything about it
>yet
are you a time traveller? i owned one for 15 years then flat screens came out
CRT ruins your eyes, because of how the cathode ray tube works.
>he says hunched over his rows of LED's blasting in his eyes in a low lit room at max power
retard
All monitors do dumbfuck
Also, none of them do if its console gaming because you are sitting at a healthy distance
Its the pc gamers that fucked and still fuck up their eyes
Nope, watching an overly bright screen no matter the technology will fuck up your eyes
I have an old one from back in the day, but it doesn't work anymore.
They don't make them anymore.
because i have lg c2 oled and i enjoy pictures in great quality
I like my eyes without glasses
Stop longing for the old days, Ganker
It's over
I will continue to enjoy good things and not be conditioned to consume garbage because it's new like /a/ was.
60 hz crt.gif
plasmas also did this shit as well. i remember my family throwing out a 40 inch screen cause it was grating on the eyes and no one truly understood the problem
You stupid or something?
Of course you are, you are posting tranime.
>tranime
>anime website
>chud website
It was over from the get go
>yet
I owned one way before you were born, loser
because they are pointless if you have a crt TV
crt monitors are a meme. Only idiots and ultra poorfags still use them.
I owned one up to 2004 and tosses that shit out when I got a 720p LCD.
we get it, you are a retard
>blurry picture with bleeding colors and the warping that happens at the edge of the screen due to the screen’s convex shape
or
>stable, crisp image with no bleeding colors or warping, better aspect ratio
Man, this was a difficult choice in 2004. I’m sure it was also difficult for everyone out there who was totally concerned with input lag and retro console compatibility in 2004.
Dumbass zoomer.
>blurry
Nope
>bleeding colors
This is a positive you deceitful moron, its a big part of why games look far better on CRTs than LED or OLED
>LEDs
>crisp image
This has to be a joke, must have meant jaggy and ugly
>Nope
Yes. But you very clearly didn’t grow up using crt tvs.
>This is a positive you deceitful moron, its a big part of why games look far better on CRTs than LED or OLED
Not even close to being true. The only thing that MAYBE looks better are sprite based games made before the fifth gen, but that’s it.
>This has to be a joke, must have meant jaggy and ugly
Going from crt to 720p lcd was mind blowing back then, but you’re a zoomer who never lived through it so I’m just wasting my time. crts are not useful and is only a modern curiosity to still have around a house at best.
>that's it
nope, ps1 and ps2 games as well.
>hurr durr Im le boomer who knows everything
go fuck yourself with you lcd slop
>nope, ps1 and ps2 games as well
Buy a signal converter instead of a fatass retarded crt.
>zoomer noises
There is no reason outside the very niche concern over input lag to ever need a crt
I did, still looks like shit compared to crt
>b-b-but 20 years ago I had one
compare them both side by side now, then we can discus this topic, senile old man
Don’t buy some cheapo walmart garbage and actually buy a real one.
>just blow up twitchy 3D at 240p to 4k bro lol
That's retarded, emulate at that point.
It’s better than having a hulking mass of plastic and glass for way more money than you should be paying for it if the goal is to use real hardware.
>It’s better than having a hulking mass of plastic and glass for way more money than you should be paying for it
Like what, paying $300 to blur out gigantic jaggies? No wonder you get scammed on things people give away for free.
>if the goal is to use real hardware.
If the goal is to use real hardware modern displays are ruled out, we don't even have to discuss how bad they are for 15khz in the first place.
>the goal is to use real hardware modern displays are ruled out
Yeah, if you strawman converters and pretend the don’t do the job of crts without the space wasting and inevitable hardware failure.
converters lol
can they do sonic waterfalls properly? if so ill buy 1
I don’t play Genesis, but N64 and SNES games play well on mine. None of the stretched and blurry look you get from a modern tv taking the signal without conversion. From there, I just adjust the screen settings to what I like. If you buy at walmart or amazon, you will probably get a pile of shit though, so it requires a little research.
looking at them they are like 1:1 pixel so probably not, and scanlines do not do it either, need dithering done by the crt or shader
You paid $300 to get shitty scanlines.
That’s not how it works, anon.
>having a long term investment that makes the games look better than crt on a modern display that doesn’t require a square meter of space
or
>finding a shitty low-end crt at the end of its life and hoping it doesn’t start breaking down or start and electrical fire every time you power it on
Man, hard choice.
>that makes the games look better than crt
That was your first mistake
My bad, I forgot I was in a CRT cult thread for a moment.
Clearly, such cult like behaviour
Using old tech to play with old tech that was made for old tech
>300$ for a chink converter that looks worse than crt
or
>Free crt found in the dump or bought from Facebook for 20 bucks
>Buy a signal converter instead of a fatass retarded crt.
also anon in another thread
>why do PS2 games look so shit and blurry
i use my crt to play rhythm games. checkmate autist
Like I said, very niche concern.
I clearly did grow up with them and you didnt, since you say lies
Its LEDs that are blurry lmao
3D games 6th gen and earlier also look better on crt
Going from crt to 720p looked disappointing as fuck, from kino to hideous
>3D games 6th gen and earlier also look better on crt
This is a problem with not processing the signal with a converter. Like I told the other anon, don’t go to walmart or amazon to buy a cheap piece of shit converter. If you give a shit about retro games to this degree, you have some spending money and may as well spend a little more on an actual good converter.
No anon, it’s a problem with aliasing and interlacing
A good upscaler is alright but it still just looks the same as native resolution on an emulator
A CRT makes them look good
>it’s a problem with aliasing and interlacing
Which is why a good converter fixes this problem. I game on my monitor with sixth gen and older games and they don’t have to issues of readability and blurry graphics that modern displays have with a raw signal (if the display even recognizes it in the first place). The only argument aside from the aesthetics of having a crt on your desk is input lag, which is not even a problem for 99% of people.
>3D games 6th gen and earlier also look better on crt
i disagree, i much prefer emulating gamecube than playing on real hardware.
Cranking up the internal res I’m sure
Mismatched with lower res textures and poorly scaled HUD elements
>Cranking up the internal res I’m sure
yeah, why exactly would i want a jagged mess?
>Mismatched with lower res textures and poorly scaled HUD elements
depends on the game i suppose. if there's no official or fan made 16:9 widescreen support then i'll just play it on 4:3 but i don't think the textures even look bad at high resolution. especially on more stylized-cartoony shit. maybe something like RE4 would look better on a CRT but there's not too much gritty/realism shit like that on gamecube.
>Cranking up the internal res I’m sure
You're acting like taking advantage of modern hardware is a bad thing
Lol reminds me exactly of “HD texture packs” for old PC games
LMAO
Anon, there are CRTs with black glass
>Low res textures on an upscaled game looks like an HD texture pack
No it just looks like an old game at a high resolution. Although you're kind of funny to suggest that HD texture packs are even inherently bad in the first place.
worse. the 3D elements will look super high res, but the 2d textures stay low res (unless you use god awful smearing filters).
which in turn make the 3D elements look completely out of place from the rest of the 2D elements
the hyper realistic rendered backdrops in FF7 always looked jarring when compared to the low poly chibi character models, the CRT doesn't hide that. but that being said, sure, the 1% of games that use high prerendered backdrops at 120p probably shouldn't be upscaled
>120p
>360p
What in the god damn
i don't know what exact low resolution the ff7 backgrounds were initially rendered in, but it ultimately doesnt matter with the point i was making
I’ll give you a hint
Retro vidya is right in between those two number
Yeah, those jittery 30 pixels with the vague shape of a human look real good with state of the art pre-rendered backgrounds. People who tried the PC version of those games simply gave up, for they couldn't stand the lack of soul.
Hey, it's the best looking guy here!
thats why you upscale to 4k, and then downscale it back to 360p. it looks far better than just rendering at 360p.
>he brags about downgrading
I picked this up on facebook the other day for free. I am a complete newfag to these things and got it for shits and giggles. Is this green discoloration mean the thing is fucked or can it be fixed?
unironically get a big magnet and put it near the side with discoloration
it'll genuinely fix it up real quick.
>Is this green discoloration mean the thing is fucked or can it be fixed?
Probably no degaussing.
Needs degaussing
Or the direction it’s facing could be causing the issue depending on some random shit
Turn it off on the power button and turn it back on to degauss
I do, a nice bit 28” set that’s RGB capable
I play light gun games on it too, best way to play all games up to 6th gen
>Turn it off on the power button and turn it back on to degauss
I power cycled it a few times and that didn't do anything.
Rotate it and see if it moves or goes away
Otherwise you’ll need to manually degauss it
Dead thermistor.
Like the others said it needs degaussing. This is usually caused by wrong kind of magnetisation that directs the electron beam to wrong phospors on the screen so you get colours. If degaussing doesn't fix it the mask may be damaged.
as anons said it needs degaussing... this is also why you shouldn't put big speakers next to a CRT due to the magnets
I do. Unfortunately I'll have to leave it in the states when I leave for New zealand.
Middle aged basedboys lusting after their youth inflated the value of CRTs and they are really bulky and heavy.
You are the so(y)boy if you can't lift a few kilos
You cannot fit my big cock in your mouth and yet you call yourself a professional.
these things are super heavy. Don't buy one for the memes.
oleds are a thing
>when you see someone playing an old game on a normal tv instead of a vintage retro gamer snoy tranichud hrt tv
>he’s never played old games on a CRT
For comparison
wow literally game breaking. i threw up and died
No, but the motion blur is
Why would you be smug about playing with inferior graphics?
it's not a hard concept:
old game that was made when CRTs were the only option? chances are it was designed with them in mind.
3d game made during the transitional period or later where LCDs and better technology slowly was replacing CRTs? chances are those games stopped taking advantage of CRT quirks and focused on the fixed pixel displays.
aside from these general rules to follow a CRT really only has a couple of benefits if the games are not optimized for them.
faster response time due to being analog
minor smoothing effect to the image which can aid very low resolutions
true blacks with only the anti-reflective film choice giving it any grey color (i think OLEDs can do similar)
non-fixed resolution making any resolution it can handle look as good as possible. (modern displays look quite soft when not at their native resolution due to fixed pixels)
All standard definition looks better on a CRT, period
It’s only 7th gen when HDMI came around that consoles made the switch to flat panels, even the 360 only had AV cables at first and the games even run better when playing at lower res
i addressed that towards the bottom of my post with the minor smoothing effect.
Even most ps3 games look way better on crt
The change during that transition to LEDs looked real bad and jaggy
Hell, modern games still look jaggy most of the time
LCD's not LED's
I'll say the only problem with PS3 on a CRT is that I don't think there are games in 4:3 and you don't get the same performance boost as the 360 unfortunately
>Even most ps3 games look way better on crt
HD CRTs maybe.
It's really revealing to see all the chud obsessed posters out themselves as literal cattle who will settle for inferior products because it owns le chuds
Actual subhumans, kek. I'll be enjoying my KD-34XBR960 with full blacks while you fags deal with your ASLOP lcd that fries your brain with blue light and color saturation
I do.
rape
Whats the highest hz you can get on a CRT?
common ones went up to like 85, but premium ones probably went as high as current displays, 120+
About 200hz I believe with reduced resolution. I run my Dell Trinitron monitor at 960p 100hz and it looks incredible.
On a pc 31khz CRT I think you can go up to 200hz comfortably
15khz sets are usually at 60hz
I gave my for recycling like more than a decade ago.
>live next to retirement home in rural maryland
>pick these things up for free all the time
>resell them to smashfags at the university
i got $100 for a 23 inch trinitron last week, shit was based
I had one back in the day, don't need one now
I used a CRT as my primary monitor from 1995-2014 and I've done with them. The colours are just better on and IPS LCD and more importantly I don't have to struggle to move the thing around (my last CRT was a massive SUN microsystems 21").
anyone know how to get 240p working on these crt monitors? even setting it up with a refresh rate of 120hz to hit that 30khz pixel clock my monitor just turns off when switching to this resolution. maybe its cause im using a dp to vga adapter but ive seen a lot of people have this same thing "just work" for them
I do, but the imperfect geometry triggers me too much
>32" Sony Trinitron, always tinkering with the service menu
>13" Sony PVM, the screen is slightly tilted, can't unsee
I'm seriously considering the retrotink with an OLEd or something
>>I do, but the imperfect geometry triggers me too much
It was always this way, one of the reasons LCDs felt so great the first time I saw them.
retrotink is gay and retarded, get a GBS-control, chinks have been making extremely high quality souped up custom builds with every possible input you could want. Half the price of the stink too.
>13" Sony PVM, the screen is slightly tilted, can't unsee
the yolk got jarred, especially common if it was shipped, you can fix it by moving it back into position, minor shock risk.
I tried to do it, I even bought those expensive gloves, but the shit was unmovable, everything glued tight
if it won't budge at all then it was improperly calibrated from factory, quite rare, it should be quite firm fully clamped so rotating it while clamped should be difficult.
the whole image is perfectly crooked? it isn't just a bad corner right? though to be honest those are hard to fix in the menu and may require strips.
it's a slight tilt of the whole image, I'd say 2-4°
otherwise the geometry is perfect
Use overscan
I mostly play GBA games, so they're not full-screen
>got a crt to play GBA
Mate
not "only", but mostly
it's 13" CRT, I hook my gamecube with gameboy player, snes controller adapter = great way of playing GBA games
it is a common pitfall when you have a crt with a service menu to try and maximize the viewable area when the absolute outer edge is going to show the most issues.
what is really fun is if you do that with game consoles you will find that the snes and genesis are not even centered with eachother so having one absolutely perfect will have the other one being off-center with a blank strip down the side.
the red is red for a reason, your not supposed to or expected to have *all* of it on screen, typically something closer to the red dots is going to give you better results.
every 4:3 game looks objectively better on crt
As simple as that.
cope all you want with your modern shart tvs
... then just run the game at a 4:3 resolution
>just use to pillar box bro
>BLACK BARS? AAAAAAA I'M GOING INSAAAAANE
I miss the gray bars option on burnable TVs
my never burned plasma has it, my burned OLED doesn't
OLED manufacturers live in denial, plasmas knew their limitations
black bars don't cause burn in on an oled.
they cause uneven use, which is rooted in the same cause as burn-ins
No but uneven use can cause unintended lines in your picture
ive had my oled for 2 years and have not had any of these issues. i literally use the thing as a desktop monitor.
>black bars don't cause burn in on an oled.
black bars will eventually cause noticeable burn-in. The OLED tv has a "pixel refresher" that will compensate for it... until it reached the limit of how much it can overvolt/undervolt the affected pixels, and then burn-in will suddenly start showing up.
the only argument you can make for it "not causing burn in" is because no specific image is being burned into the screen. but that is just semantics. It WILL eventually cause everything in the black-bar area to be much brighter and more vibrant than in the non-blackbar area.
I got an OLED and I use it as a PC monitor and i will never go back to anything else. so dont call me a hater I love the tech. but your statement is false.
>black bars will eventually cause noticeable burn-in. The OLED tv has a "pixel refresher" that will compensate for it... until it reached the limit of how much it can overvolt/undervolt the affected pixels, and then burn-in will suddenly start showing up.
crt burn in too and are more susceptible to it lol
>finally find one
>it works *sometimes*
So close yet so far...
it should work all the time
One example of why you should own one
>setting a monitor meant for high refresh rates to 60hz just to skew the comparison
a higher framerate doesn't mean pixel response time is better, it just means more frames.
it will make ghosting far less apparent
your screen's refresh rate is not the same as software refresh rate
>your screen's refresh rate is not the same as software refresh rate
no shit, why do you think I said that
so why do you act like there's no reason to run your monitor at a higher rate than software?
>it will make ghosting far less apparent
But that's not true. If the pixel response time is the same it's gonna take as much time to transition.
>I can choose the framerates of movies and emulation
>doesn't understand what he is saying
Even with hundreds of fps there is tedious motion blur easily visible on any LEDs or OLED
But zero whatsoever on CRTs at any framerate
I will say while there is no motion blur, there are still ghosting trails
No thanks CRT shill, I'm keeping my 0 computational cost in built object motion blur for great cinematic effect, noob.
>rub arm against screen
I have one on my right
We have a dusty ass CRT in the basement, i dont know if it still works
I dont use it because it sucks, newer monitors are better
Didn't know there were so many women here
ironic since most crt users are trannies
hence, not women
how is that ironic?
anon, what?
here we go again with the association fallacy.
i merely responded to it gay
Is there a market in producing CRT?
Even if I can sell just thousands of CRT a year, it's probably still worth doing the business.
Or is it impossible to produce a CRT nowadays?
no
No. We may eventually get boutique tvs using a similar looking and feeling technology.
Just a reminder that there is a technology called Laser Phosphor Display that is basically a better CRT without a 100lb lead glass tube. It is self calibrating, can account for burnt out lasers, can easily be made with higher horizontal resolutions than CRTs ever had, is seamlessly tileable, and yet they only sell it as giant video walls for boomer boardroom meetings.
The company is called Prysm. They have a contact form. They have a phone number. They have headquarters.
>that is basically a better CRT
lol no
>creates a picture using the same principle crts work with without having to shield your face from xrays with lead
>is flatscreen and could thus have phosphors printed directly on the glass at incredibly fine dot pitch
Maybe the existing models technically aren't as good as the late era high end CRTs but the idea behind it is literally just a better CRT, it has potential if they'd just sell the fucking things to gamers already.
>motion blur
>dull colour
>high input latency
>doesn't make standard def content look good
yeah, amazing
>shield your face from xrays with lead
Leaded glass is hazardous how?
people make drinking glasses out of that shit
The fuck are you talking about? Have you actually used one? Again, it works on the same principle as a CRT, just with lasers activating the phosphors instead of an electron beam. It would look just like a CRT if not better with standard def content and could do multiple resolutions properly just like a CRT monitor. If theres any input lag then its because their engineers are retarded
>Leaded glass is hazardous now? people make drinking glasses out of that shit
Legitimately can't tell if trolling
>Legitimately can't tell if trolling
legitimately you don't know what crystal is
Good thing I don't lick my screen then
That's not the problem with CRTs, it's how heavy it makes them and also how difficult it is safely dispose of/recycle (which no one does anyway they just smash and dump them)
>dispose
How is that relevant to use
>heavy
Unless we’re dealing with flat glass it’s not a problem
The lead glass from the hundreds of millions of CRTs no one wants is a big environmental problem, it's actually illegal to produce them now because of regulations around that
https://iaitam.org/the-dirty-problem-of-crt-glass/
And how is the weight not a problem
You are talking about disposing them
That has zero bearing on using them
Cunt, if you can’t lift a 30” CRT up multiple flights of stars yourself, then you are weak
Literally hollow
Your argument?
I agree
That picture. He has no strain on his arm. Even if you could lift it and hold it like that which he can't. That "TV" is just plastic
Look at these NPCs commenting on a picture that they have to “understand” how he does it
If you can’t do this then you are weak and you will always be
Blind retard.
probably a prop
>muh environment
other regulations and literal companies do more to damage the environment than lingering lead screens from CRTs ~every day~
in short, eat your own ass
I didn't mean that in a muh environment way, just that its still a problem that LPD solves
Sorry if you misunderstood
>also how difficult it is safely dispose of/recycle
Put it on facebook marketplace or just find your closest super smash bros scene. People will pick these things up from your house and give you $20+ for the privilege of doing so
The vast majority of normies either go straight to the trash or go to the trash after not getting any bites on marketplace for a week
Well they can't make new ones to use because of it so get owned
But seriously LPD could be a true successor to CRT that gets rid of its main problems, we all need to yell at prysm to start making some fucking gaming monitors even if they'd be like 700 dollars
>Well they can't make new ones to use because of it so get owned
That’s such bullshit and you know it
Do you really think they give a shit?
They don’t make them any more because they’re not profitable
As for your LPD shit, it has no benefit with SD content
I think technically you could. Cathode ray tubes are still produced for special equipment.
our uni's smash club had to cut melee because they only had two CRTs for 20 man brackets and
they refused to use monitors.
Why don't you own a horse carriage yet?
Cars consume fuel and everyone knows driving on a dirt road feels better in a horse pulled vehicle.
>crts are le bad because le old
no, they're bad because they're obsolete
I don't even have a desktop anymore. My house is too full. 3 kids. So wife, son, and I just play on gaming laptops.
I own 2, but I don't use it. I just emulate shit on my laptop.
I just use shaders...
I would have a CRT but at the end of the day I don't even have the original hardware, I'm already emulating the console, why not emulate the CRT look as well.
>it's not the same thing
Nothing is
>Use CRTs to play moderns games, lmao
Modern games are made for moderns display, they can look awesome on CRT sure, but they already look good on a LCD
I use mine with the mister and n64, but it's really not worth it for most people.
I never had a n64, I was a sony kid. I played Ocarina of Time using emulators and shaders, but I can only imagine how good that game would look on a real CRT.
>recently was with my dad helping my grandmother clean out her garrage full of old junk throwing out stuff which wasn't valuable
>found an old CRT Computer monitor, which I wanted to keep for myself, and grandmother said I could
>father goes "you don't want that, those are terrible and worthless, its literal garbage" and throws it in the trailer full of trash which causes its screen to break because of the drop onto a ton of hard metal/wood things
>Heavy
>Consume more powerful
>Potentially hazardous if broken
>Worse than modern displays at 99% of things except ghosting, which oleds are 95% as good at
the only positive about them is they're free if you live in redneckville where people have not updated their TVs in 20 years
I do, but I don't use it, it's in the attic.
The display is way too small.
When did basedboys suddenly start worshipping these things?
CRTs have an undeniable dreamy like glow, versus lcd fluorescent lights. It soothes them.
They’re bad for your eyes. I used to get headaches all the time when I had a CRT even though I was a kid, now I never do even if I stare at my screen all day.
Because I don't miss those clumsy watt gobblers in the slightest, and I can play Alpha Centauri well enough on a modern monitor.
Yet you bought the latest Nvidia housefire.
I do, I just don't use it because it's trash in comparison. I used them for 20 years, I'm never going back.
This is always a funny complaint to me
>even has the sidewinder
Based
I didn't give any reason in the post so your reply makes 0 sense. The reason I'm not going back is 2 fold, even when over clocked the flicker combined with the blurred visuals give me a massive headache, and 2 the resolution is too low for any work that I do.
Sold mine to a family father who wanted to play light gun games with his kids. Was a shitty Panasonic, Philips or Toshiba CRT TV, can't remember. At least weighing 30 pounds. He specifically mentioned point blank which is a fun game.
That was me, and it's actually for my basement, no kids. Thanks bro
Sure. Remind me. Which brand was it and in which country do I live?
The dad was a chud and so were the kids
Spensive
>Kinect
It was almost good
Mate, you get them for free
I found it at Goodwill for two dollars with the power adapter for fat 360's so I couldn't resist.
Dust your shit, asshole.
filthy beast animal, which unable to overcome the ancient instinct of gathering
the ancestors of most non-npc people enjoyed freedom on the European continent and were constantly on campaigns. but your npc-ancestors, apparently, for many generations hid in the dark caves of Africa all their lives and the caves were filled to the brim with rotten collectible bones and stones
collection of hundreds rotten bones
freaking disgusting
Already got a nice big one with y/pb/pr for when I'm in the mood for PSX/PS2, Xbox, Gamecube/Wii or sd dvd's. I still want to get a crt pc monitor though for retro pc gaymin.
garden gnomes
I had one 20 years ago
I have kept my old 19" LG CRT stored in the garage, thing is like 20 years old now. There's no point using it though. Absolutely nothing beats a 60"+ TV. Size matters the most and it's not fucking 200 anymore.
>ctr
Haha gay
Use shaders on retroarch instead
why should i?
>why aren’t you using outdated technology that could potentially blow up, fuck up your eyesight, give you cancer, and isn’t compatible with most modern consoles
Go back to using fax machines typewriters hipster gay
why does posting or talking about CRTs make people on Ganker so angry now
someone was posting about a game in another thread that I was playing so I took a picture because we were in the same area and I got not one, but three angry replies saying that I spent so much money on an old tv to be a special snowflake, that I was trying to larp as an oldfag, and that I was trying to bait people in the thread
I was like I've had this tv since I got in 2003 for free from my grandma it just looks nice with svideo on my older consoles
it's moments like that when I believe the people who claim 50%+ of Ganker's userbase is under the age of 20
Post pic, I wanna see
That's cool but why did you post a picture of layer
It’s not that people dislike CRTs, but that people who proselytize about them on Ganker never approach it in a way that makes the uninitiated willing to hear them out. On top of that, all one has to do is post in a way that suggest even ambivalence to CRTs (
) for them to get big mad.
Feels good to piss people off just by using a TV that’s better for retro vidya
This kills CRT shills.
That's a monitor with extreme burn-in ie it's effectively broken you retard zoomer.
viewing this on a crt, both look the same
crt wins
Time to play video games on my CRT!
>EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Just like I remembered it, glad I paid 500 bucks for this 9000 pound hunk of shit
Don’t worry lil fella, you probably already hear that same tone from constantly blasting your headphones super loud
Forgot my headphones had a flyback transformer in them you fucking retard
Nah that’s your tinnitus
“Retard”
>Bragging about having deteriorated hearing
Go back to the bingo hall grandpa
Man you guys really are dumb aren’t ya
>CRTs don't make noise, you just have tinnitus
Mhm yep, you sure got me
You are totally 100% correct, what an absolute own. I'll never recover from this
>and thus anon spiraled down into a world of drugs and alcohol until he perished quietly in a dark alley during a harsh, cold night
Let me reiterate for dumb the American that needs step by step plays on the conversation because he grew up on anime that did the same
You said eeeeeee
I said you will get eeeee regardless because you listen to loud music
This confused you
I called you dumb
Here we are with you doubling down on your dumb
>You said eeeeeee
>I projected my poor ear health choices onto you for some unknown reason like it made me a superior CRT owner
ftfy
>no you
Truly, only a genius could make such a clever retort
who asked? just take the L bro
I don't even know what you are trying to accomplish at this point
I care about not killing my eyes
>the only CRT worth getting is $4000+
no thanks
guys :c I am having a headache ;-; what do i do?
The best thing about CRTs was pressing the demagnetize button
>you must use le CRT because that's what the hardware was meant for!!!
>crtfag's wet dream is to play their shit on retired medical equipment the average consumer never had access to
t.
I own an HD CRT TV. Been playing old games on it at least once or twice a week. Most recently beat Metroid NES, Mario Bros NES and Mario All Stars version of Mario Bros NES on it.
Does it do 240p?
If not, no thanks
If yes, nice
what is the best CRT shader to use? CRT-Royale is what i am using rn
CRT-Guest-Advanced is pretty awesome
AMOLED smartphone + VR box isnt better?
I wish I had a crt, the only real option now is to blow $300 on ebay.
Check marketplace and the local classifieds
Search for old television
I don't want an old television, those are piss easy. I want an old pc monitor. Old crt monitors can natively hook up to pc's and support much better resolutions.
They don’t “natively” hook up
You’ll need a DAC
Works on my DVI-I output.
My computer still has vga my dude
You sure it’s not DVI?
My pc has both a vga and an analog dvi connector
I live on a shithole were you can get one for "free" if you pay for the local CRT technician to create a frankenstein TV using pieces of broken CRTs he has laying around in his sweatshop.
Based. I want a CRT assembled by a mad technomancer now.
OLED + CRT shaders = the perfect CRT
Don't feel like paying some garden gnome a triple premium for an old ass CRT, the kind of old used shit that people used to throw out decades ago.
I still own this
Now post an actual picture of it, as it really is; covered in dust, scratches, cheeto finger prints, gay ass stickers, and your prepubescent cum.
Merely owning it isn't something to be proud of. Show you've taken care of it and then you can brag.
I also have that tv, it's a pos chinkonium set that only has worth because it's batman.
Are old music centers and radios worth it?
Can im use their DAC?
Because the moment flatscreens came out I dumped every crt I owned into a swamp near my property. Fuck those pieces of shit
> try connect pc to old crt tv via converter
> vomit becuase of flickering and ugly picture
> broke it to garbage
> get free budget crt monitor
> ideal clarity 480p at 120 hz
> make 1/2 or 1/4 sync in nvidia profiler
> old 30/60 fps locked games have ideal clarity at 120hz monitor refresh rate without tearing and flickering
> good
because I had a LG CRT monitor long ago and it caused me eye strain, also it occupied a major fucking portion of any table, I don't want to go back to that trash ever again
only your brain caused it because didnt guess make 85Hz at 768p
I know, but CRT peddlers talk about them as if every CRT out there was as good as Sony's high end ones and that was not the fucking norm at all. It's like saying why do you hate LCDs? They have 240hz refresh rate, 100% RGB coverage, ~3ms response time and great HDR support amd high contrast ratio! Pretending every LCD is the same as those Asus & other companies' premium LCDs.
Late consumer tubes are all the same, yes.
Feels good playin old vidya on a CRT boys
I honestly don't miss CRT. I don't remember any of the positives it had to offer over modern monitors. It's a romanticized piece of history that only some boomers care about. And even then, you can't blame them for it when they're trapped in their suburb cages. What the hell else is there to liven up their lives?
Imagine the world if it never evolved away from CRTs. Imagine trying to bring a smart phone with you on the bus or trying to play a Steam Deck in bed.
Jokes are jokes but every single one of you would HATE to live in that timeline.
>Smart phones
We were better off as a species without them.
Agreed. They were a mistake. Fuck steve jobs.
Yeah I grew up with CRTs and I don't miss them at all, same thing I don't get is nostalgia for NES. I had NES as a 6 year old kid and even then I knew that thing was a piece of dogshit and I never looked back.
I bought the exact monitor in OP, the better contrast and lack of bleed was nice I have to admit but it felt somewhat muted by the anti-glare coating it had, the real problem was the horrendous trailing. I was playing thief, an ideal game to notice ghosted images on a dark background and ghost afterimages would persist on the screen for literal seconds, issue easily negated the better contrast. driving an hour and paying for the privilege of having a big heavy piece of garbage laying around my small apartment burned me out on trying again.
Also anyone who tells you there was no reason crts got replaced is full of shit. I tried using it as a work/browsing pc for a laugh and the flicker gave me a headache after 20 minutes.
I did like 15 years ago and it was shit and still is shit.
Imagine paying for one of these
shipping costs more than the monitors themselves
plus no VGA/DVI ports on gpu
i'd love to have one as a second monitor tho
>Yet
What do you mean "yet"?
I've played games on CRT TV's for the majority of my life. I'm not doing it again.
The fact that it triggers one autist that says “I don’t miss them” over and over is what makes me love them more
CRT for SD shit
OLED for modern
CRT for copper
OLED for garbage after 3-5 years
I love how the CRT screen magically adds mountains in the water.
IM Gonna order a 1000 USD CRT RIGHT NOW!
>Why don't you own a CRT yet?
I have two.
A Sony Trinitron and this bad boy.
Whoops
what's the easiest cheapest way to get a CRT? i don't want to pay $150+ for one
Patience you either get it for free or pay 10 bucks.
