Out of print + high demand. Pokemon's popularity boom after GO made more people want to go back and buy them I assume.
Everything the other anons said is true, but there are other factors that caused it to happen now of all times
The Paul brothers started doing pokemon card unboxings on youtube, and the trend got so big that stores were running out of cards and Target actually stopped selling them because of fights
COVID-19 caused a huge spike in demand for games in general, particularly cute wholesome ones a la animal crossing to lift spirits
But the biggest reason is that the zoomers who grew up with these games are graduating college right now and have disposable income to splurge on childhood nostalgia, the same thing happened to gamecube games a few years ago and it'll happen to the wii. Get ready for mario galaxy 2 to shoot up in price
>Out of print + high demand.
Yeah, this. It is capitalism 101. Supply and demand.
DS games are no longer being produced and the number of available copies is dwindling fast.
But the demand for them is still as high as ever. More kids are born every year, and a lot of these new gamers grow up and become interested in collecting retro games. So now you have millennials, zoomers, and the upcoming Gen Alpha all wanting to their hands on the few DS cartridges left in existence.
>out of print for 10+ years >the last great Pokemon games >nostalgia for the late 2000's kicking up >Gen 4 just had a mediocre remake and people want to play the originals
>he didn't buy himself copies of the DS games when they were on sale everywhere >he's now wondering why games sold between 18 and 12 years ago are so expensive for authentic copies today when they stopped making and selling new copies of the games 12 years ago
Really? You really have no idea why a finite resource is expensive, when demand is so high?
Sorry for not being poor and needing to hock everything I own to buy vidya each year.
I got MY copies when they were new and on-sale, so I don't need to bother with gougers like you poorgays.
The DS install base is only second to the PS2 by a small margin. It's essentially the best selling console of all time. The DS Pokemon games sold very poorly on release relative to the install base having some of the lowest install base ratios in the entire series. Since few people bought them on release and there are an infinite number of DS players that missed out on them the price exploded. For reference, Pokemon is in the top 3 best selling games in any portable nintendo platform except for the DS and Switch. Brain Age sold better than Pokemon on the DS.
The remakes pending kept the price down, but now that they’re released (and sucked) anyone who wants to play gen IV and doesn’t have enough of a clue to emulate them has no choice.
Because of their extreme quality and sovl

Because they haven't been manifactured in 10 years.

All of these are true but you can also pick one.
They're all $0 though?????
This just be a piratechad like any non mentally disabled person.
Piracy is 'too hard' for 99% of people
How's PS4 emulation doing? Genuine question, last I heard a bunch of teams were getting ready to work to make one now that PS3 is pretty much stable.
Because they can't issue things like dl woke updates.

Why would you pay for games that are no longer in print?
To collect them before they even get more expensive
gotta pay for eating good
>*eats for free on an emulator*
nothing personell
In the future you won't own anything, and you'll be happy!!!!
You look moronic
No one bought them, that's why
I did
newbies are filthy
Thanks to you we now have global warming. Thanks, jerk!
Good one, zoomszooms epicly owned
They're free.

TLDR: small ratio of sales to install base
It's weird because I definitely do feel like the average DS player had Pokemon still at the time.

Complete in box is like $100. How is that expensive? Diamond and Pearl are even significantly less.
>thread full of morons justifying pokemon games being universally sold at minimum +50% their original price, regardless of age and condition
You've been groomed thoroughly. Seek help.
This is not unique to pokemon and pokemon is lucky there are a lot copies or it would be way worse.
