Why has is there no /poker general/ on /tg/? In fact, I don't think there has ever been one. With solvers being introduced to the game, I'd think it would have attracted a ton of aubreaststs from here, especially during the lockdowns. Plus you can play with crypto.
Anyway, poker general. What game do you guys play? Are you profitable?

Not enough interest for gamble here and I don't think /tg/ has enough autists to force a general like GURPS and VtM has.
>no interest on gambling
>1/3 of the board is tcgs
It's a manipulable gamble so it doesn't count.
What does this mean?
You don't need that many people here to get a general going. I've watched them start with just a few dedicated posters and random anons posting in the thread, and then slowly picking up more interest and new players. There could easily be 20-30+ poker players here who would discuss the game in a thread, and it would be really fun, especially the loss porn.
This is what I was thinking. Poker is way cheaper, for me anyway, than say M:tG. Hell, it's cheaper than something like Warhammer. And at least I get to make money while I had fun. I guarantee a bunch of players here could learn poker and get good at it. There are microstakes like $0.02/$0.05 where you can buy in for $5.00 or less.
You get consistency with those TCG decks (usually), you don't in Poker ("House Always Wins™").
Thats black jack. Casinos will have poker rooms, but those don't make big money because there's actual stratagy in play.
Blackjack makes you lose money in the long run but at least whatever you win has actual value. TCGs leave you with nothing but cardboard.
You cannot just force a general. You need to reach first a critical mass of users interested in a given topic to keep discussion flowing, constantly. Thats why l5r and runequest only have seasonal threads, not enough interest.
>You need to reach first a critical mass of users interested in a given topic to keep discussion flowing, constantly.
Lol.
Only 23 replies in the past two days, and half of them are one guy bumping the thread with random images.
It doesn't have a magic system or monster girls to ask you questions about whenever a thread hits page 10.
Even if Poker was the best game of all time, all the digitizations are agonizingly cringe to look at with Instagram Mii looking bimbo thots on every screen and art that leans way too heavily into the gambling/casino aspect. It's impossible to look past this because it's just that bad. If there was a Mahjong Soul equivalent or a Lichess equivalent that didn't require crypto it would have more popularity with people who aren't over the age of 50 and incapable of getting an erection.
Honestly this.
On a similar topic, I once looked into getting some good poker chips to serve as fake money for some of my boardgames, but DAMN is it near impossible to find quality poker chips without artwork that tries to scream CASINO !$! as loud as possible.
i do not know how to play poker. but i do have a case of chips i inherited from the back of a closet. is this shit easy, can i be one of the ones to make a lot of money and without being taken out back and beaten up for hustling?
Poker has one of the easiest talent:reward ratios of any game. Its difficulty is very overrated and you will beat people by simply playing the obvious best moves instead of trying to be Mister Big Hog boomer who thinks going all-in makes people believe him when he says his wife gets wet for him. Just play online if you have crippling autism or are afraid of being assaulted by morons at the casino.
The rules of poker aren't hard, its a guessing and matching game. The difficulty is in playing other people.
Like how chess isn't hard to learn, but playing against a grand master is very hard.
>Like how chess isn't hard to learn, but playing against a grand master is very hard.
This is not an apt comparison because any game is easy if your opponents roll over. The best Chess players will gigarape you because they have more experience and a higher IQ than you and little more. Poker has a lot more room to make mistakes and still win because it's a dead simple limited information game with high school level math.
I learned how to play poker because bicycle has been putting out really cool decks and some of them look like poker cards from an anime or fantasy game.
saw these hanging on a peg at a drugstore checkout and I had to have them
Right? They have so many custom decks now its insane.
Because there are numerous, far better places to discuss poker.
>2+2 forums
>poker coaching sites
>random training discords
>private gamba groups
Look, if you are the kind of autist who is good at MtG/Hearthstone or are just the kind of insufferable prick whose fun from TRPGs comes from minmaxing, then poker is the game for you.
If you play TRPGs for the stories, then poker probably isn't for you. You're welcome to try, but it takes an enormous amount of time, energy, and discipline to play poker profitably. These days, you need to study for months before you bet a single cent on this game, and that's not hyperbole. It can be easy to delude yourself into thinking you're a winning player by being on the receiving end of good variance.
I got hooked on poker three years ago - it proceeded to drain my finances to the point where I was in debt because I would continually chase my losses, but dwarf the amount of time I spent studying with the amount I spent playing. If you're a degen neet who can't stop playing vidya or trpgs, I strongly caution you against playing this shit for anything but micro stakes and funzies. Even then, it's astonishing how much money you can burn through by playing 10nl in a single day.
>inb4 you just sucked
Yeah, I did. Lemme tell you what playing poker regularly actually looks like:
>hear about all these nerds who get good at poker and quit their jobs
>you are a nerd, so you should be able to do it too, right?
>kid yourself that the 20 minutes you spent on ICMIZER, a $30/month or smth program, is a good enough warmup
>frick around with a crypto site, sweat profusely as you transfer a significant sum of money to a shady offshore poker site
>boot up the software that costs $70 so you can record your hands
>proceed to make about 50 different mistakes that you know were mistakes before you even clicked the buttons because you hardly have time to make decisions
>proceed to make decisions that your gut tells you are dumb because some poker training site said 'you just can't fold here'
>proceed to lose hundreds of dollars in 10nl or $5 buyin tournaments until you rage and enter a $30 tournament
>proceed to sunrun in the $30 tournment and win
>think you are god's gift to poker
>lose all the money you won from that tournament and your original deposit over the course of a month while telling yourself that everyone you played against are the real fishes
>beat yourself up over not just quitting while you were ahead
>lie to your friends and family about your losses
>cry yourself to sleep every night
>If you're a degen neet who can't stop playing vidya or trpgs, I strongly caution you against playing this shit for anything but micro stakes and funzies.
directions unclear, dick stuck in poker
What even is there to discuss about poker? It’s such a simple game.
