Because every single subpar developer that has tried to copy it have only done so in the broadest sense: co-op horde shooter. They never understood all the little details and technical mastery that contributed to making it so incredible, like the AI director, the writing for the characters, the way gunplay feels, the physics, the randomization, the detailed gore, or the versus mode. And they never had the talent or patience or passion to implement any of that either. They just wanted a quick buck and raced to the finish line to put out a barebones product.

I have owned l4d 1+2 since they launched and I still play a campaign at least once a week because of it's baked in replayability.

      >the way gunplay feels
Elaborate on this, because I don't think the game did anything special with it

its less how the guns feel and more how the infected react to being shot that makes it special.

That combined with the great sound design for them that makes every gun sound powerful, and the awesome gore where limbs get blown off and guts spill out. It feels incredible to mow down hordes every single time.

Back 4 Blood was the only one that ever stood a chance at surpassing it. What a massive whiff that was.

Warhammer 40K: Darktide might be the shittiest one to date though.

I haven't paid much attention to Dark Tide, but I had high hopes. What's wrong with it?

Played the beta this weekend a bit. It's just shit. Soulless Vermintide 2 reskin but a lot worse somehow. It runs like ass, graphics are worse, it's janky as hell, gunplay is very poor (and it barely gives you any ammo so it's still melee-centric), no enemy variety, maps all look the same and are not well designed, missions are same-y, tons of grinding because it's about gear level rather than skill, terrible character creator that doesn't let you make a white person, etc. Also, the game isn't even out yet and they are already focused on talking about premium currency, microtransactions, and paid dlc over what needs to be fixed. It's just bad, even compared to their previous games or things like B4B.

It was worked on by actual geniuses at game development, other companies simply dont have the brains to make something better
