Why haven't you gotten a hacked Switch yet?

You don't even need a modchip for the older models. The library is massive and it's the only console getting games currently. There is no excuse.

Deck has a much worse screen than the OLED and laggy Switch emulation compared to any model if you play a game side by side. Not to mention even less battery playtime. If you own a Switch already it's moronic to emulate it on the Deck.

        Anonymous

You're right because Switch emulation isn't perfect but you can't hack an OLED so that's not a factor. I have a Deck and I still play Switch games on my hacked Switch.

Yes, you can. In fact if you don't have one yet, it better to just buy a new one online with a modchip installed instead of doing it yourself.

I don't have an OLED Switch. Also there are no performance problems once you tweak the Deck GPU settings. SMTV plays the same for me on both Deck and Switch. Battery life is also substantially improved by just lowering Deck settings to that of the Switch. The GPU is configured from stock to run AAA games like DMC5 but it's overkill for Switch games. I get about 5 hours of playtime with SMTV, about 2 with DMC5.

They're kinda shit tbh. I hacked my switch for the same reason and honestly it's no more different than what a psp or vita is capable of, with the exception of being able to inject psx/psp/vita games and have them run natively on a hacked psp/vita.
I would say stick with the vita unless you absolutely need to play fourth gen (or GB/GBC/GBA) interchangeably between handheld and docked.

      Anonymous

Better than on vita, but not much better. PSOne games are playable and less fricky than they are on Vita (retroarch or "native"), and I never got stutters or slowdowns in some GBA games that I sometimes get on Vita. But it's still not as powerful as a steam deck. If you want an emulation powerhouse - get a deck. Otherwise - stay on vita. I personally prefer Vita for sound and better screen.

The only reason to ever update your setup is if there is a new game that doesnt install right for you, otherwise don't. So it depends on what you are playing.

      Anonymous

      In this order:
      Update Sigpatches
      Update Atmosphere
Update any addons (like Mission Control), if you're using them
Remove any themes, if you're using them.
Go to Darthsternie and download the latest firmware
Copy it to your SD card
      Run Daybreak and install

But as the other anon said, you should only update if a game needs it. No point otherwise.

You're fine. I'm not aware of any games requiring 15+. If you have any questions about updating in future, check the guide on /hbg/ on /vg/.

Can I leave it in pirate mode yet? Do I need to use that jig all the time after the battery dies?

imo it was the modchips that got them ninja'd
They were fine for years, but magically got caught and arrested right before shipping something that made literally every switch moddable.
Nintendo probably ignored SXOS before modchips because getting rid of it wouldn't magically stop piracy on fusee switches, while stopping modchips would prevent piracy on newer switches.
