there's no point. we're forcing them to implement DEI/ESG and establish enforcement departments in their video game and entertainment companies as a condition of continued military support and economic investment. I don't know if Japan knows it yet, but we're forcing them to sacrifice their soft power

I learned it well enough. I still usually default to english since it takes less brain power. I really don't care about the localization controversies. The translations usually convey 95% of the original script anyway.

Most of the times it's closer to 50-60%. Intent and meaning is usually lost or some localizer just makes it up.

I was taking classes. I stopped because I wanted to save some money and then never continued. It was worth it, though, having a teacher to ask questions to and a class to practice with felt great.

The immigration thing doesn't need explanation. The Indians just don't know how to put the poo in the loo and that's unironically making people very racist. t. Why do companies hire political activists? The entire idea behind cancelling someone is that a company doesn't want to deal with the fallout regardless of whether the accusations are real or false. Why aren't these people canceled for spreading extreme ideologies and insulting their clients, something a company shouldn't want to deal with either?

        Anonymous

Because the companies are assured that the ones they are against are a very tiny minority of people and that if they do what they say, they will gain a larger audience. Because graph has continued to rise in the last few years and people have no will to NOT buy their shit, they continue to get more and more power.

You can't even use the Japanese language option on the vast majority of japanese games on Steam. Steam disabled the option (for legal reasons I heard) and selecting Japanese just reverts the game back to english.

I'd rather fight and destroy my enemies than give ground. Even if it ends with A.I translation and one dude putting the words back together. The manga industry is already doing it, or hiring fan translators. Its only a matter of time before "Localization" also becomes another babysitter industry that can't justify having a million sit alongs.

all the methods boil down to
      >pick something to learn vocabulary
      >pick something to learn grammar
      >immerse and look up vocab/grammar points you don't know, how frequently is up to you
      >debate with yourself whether pitch accent is important or not until you decide to learn it
      >do these every day
and if you just want to be spoonfed and a plan layed out to you you just do this

      your results may vary

people debate putting off actually verbally speaking the language until they have sufficient input/immersion time

This is such a good resource. I messed around for over a year with all kinds of different things trying to find the "best" method but what I really needed was a consistent schedule like this. Even though it's only been like 12 days, I can really feel my comprehension and understanding growing and paying off.

Thanks for the source anon. Can you learn jap faster if you only want to read manga and text in games and not speak the language?

I'm not sure about everyone, but for me my including verbal practice was what made everything click. It's another avenue for retention that I wish I used from the beginning.

Why do you kids fricking care about any of this? EVERYTHING is localized, not just video games. You act like you're being robbed of some sacred experience because people make the Japanese > English translation make sense. It's ridiculous and childish to get so mad about, especially when it comes down to targeting specific individuals who someone just tells you is the one you should be angry with. Pathetic. Be better than this.

Last I checked my English (non Protestant) copy of the Bible doesn't have Moses talking about Skibidi toilet, or someone at the Last Supper saying Judas is "sus."
All I'm asking is that the translator give me some idea of what the original script is like. Translators and localizers are middle men. I'd prefer to cut them out if possible.
