because its a bad game
you cannot pretend its not, no matter how contrarian you try to be, you still have to engage with reality
But why though?
Not shitposting, I'm just genuinely wondering because I finished DMC1 and liked it. I've been thinking of trying this but everyone seems to say DMÇ2 is the shits.
Can you still play 3 and enjoy it without knowing anything about 2? Or is it essential?
the combat is increadibly awkward
stuff like always on lock on
different combos delegated to where the analog stick is pointing
guns being massively op
all of the animations are very awkward and more grounded then the other games
hit and miss enemy design
nothing happens in the story
the tank and helicopter fight
the swords are all the same but just deal more damage or swing faster
it does some cool things though
overall designs like weapon/boss/enemy/dante (save the tank and helicopter) are pretty cool
yeah just skip it
in DMC5 there is a retelling of the whole series in chronological order
when it gets to DMC2 it says "Dante went to africa" then moves on to DMC4's story
>playing dmc for the story
Lol, lmao even. DMC2 is only enjoyable if you cheat to unlock the hardest difficulty and trish and then do nothing but bloody palace as a novelty. But that's about it.
The story is completely and utterly inconsequential. There aren't even references to it in the later games, and DMC5 has multiple references to the anime ffs.
OP if you're curious you should just play it and see what you think, but it's got problems. there is a 'definitive editon' mod that allegedly overhauls a lot of it, haven't tried it personally
Because it feels like utter shit to play, everyone mentions this when explaining why it's bad. When I tried the dmc trilogy for the 1st time years before 5 came out I dropped it after the 2nd enemy encounter and went straight to 3 because of how fricking garbage that initial impression was.
the lockon
how SHIT the stinger sounded and felt
the dog shit enemies compared to the puppets
the shitty surroundings
Thanks. Would you recommend just skipping it entirely for 3? Or maybe just rushing it?
Is there any real reason to play for any story bits?
Skip entirely. Capcom and itsuno himself try to ignore this game exists, we still don't know who that mystery director for it was
>Can you still play 3 and enjoy it without knowing anything about 2?
The intro of 3 sums everything up, literally no reason to torture yourself playing 2
Just play DMC2 then, people are saying its bad, not that you shouldnt try it.
For everyone who wants to get into DMC i always tell them to play DMC2 until they literally cant take it anymore, which usualy is right after 10 minutes of playing it.

I played it and I think it deserves the hate. Truly a piece of shit game. However, you should still play it for curiosity's sake and it's also extremely short.
It has a few good things about it (music, some designs, introduction of some gameplay elements that were better implemented in latter entries) but unfortunately it's not enough to redeem the whole thing.
I still played it after finishing DMC1 because I happened to have it anyway but I'd say it's only worth it to see how much of a drastic improvement 3 was.
Because it's a bad game on itself and one of the worst sequels of anything I've played.
I talk as someone who played the DMC series for the first time between 2020 and 2022 and went into 2 with an open mind because many games I like and I personally consider good are universally loathed.
because despite the few good things it does its still a genuinely bad game

Ganker is a contrarian board so they must everything good and popular
because it's bad
It’s a horrible game.
Try playing it.

was Mundus actually a fallen angel?
After over a year of development, they had to bring another director in because the game was going nowhere.
