Why is it still so fun playing this even as a jaded 35 year old? There's something truly magical about this game that no other game since has ever been able to recreate.
Why is it still so fun playing this even as a jaded 35 year old? There's something truly magical about this game that no other game since has ever been able to recreate.
nostalgia and only nostalgia
I never played wow before 2019 and experiencing vanilla for the first time was magical, I think by the end I had 250-300 days played across all my characters
did you play other mmos before or around the time wow came out? if so that's probably why, just a preference for old mmos.
I was playing lineage 2 C4 at that time and that was also magical, but revisiting it the game did not age well at all. Also played osrs at that time and the game still holds up well nowadays
Same but in 2017, that was my very first experience with WoW* so no nostalgia. But I quit once I made it to level 60, and I was already getting bored at 55 or so. Leveling is a lot of fun, even today, but once you stop progressing there's not much left to do.
I understand why people loved it back in the day though: if it was this good in 2017, it must've been incredible in 2004.
*I did try WoW during Mists of Pandaria, because the game went on sale for pennies (€10 with a month included, something like that). It must've been during WoD pre-patch I assume? Because I didn't buy the MoP expansion, but I could create pandaren characters.
Anyway, the game was braindead easy. You leveled-up way too fast, people in dungeons rushed to the end oneshotting everything, I thought the game wasn't for me and quit at 60-70.
Imagine my surprise when I tried Vanilla and I ended up liking it a lot.
Ragnarok Online and Lineage 2 were my main MMOs growing up. But I played a little bit of everything.
Ragnarok Online was amazing. Despite the lack of appearance customization options when compared to some other MMOs, it is by far the most customizable MMO when it comes to builds that i've ever seen.
You could choose what attribute to increase in each level up, select equipments based on several factors, choose what card to equip in each equipment, you picked what skills you wanted to increase... All in all, an awesome MMO.
Nostalrius was more fun than retail and I never played classic before.
Yeah, pure nostalgia. That's why at least 2000 attempts were made to copy Vanilla WoW and why the WoW clone model dominated the MMORPG market to this day, because people liked Vanilla WoW purely out of nostalgia.
You couldn't have played Vanilla after 2019, you imbecile. Classic is not Vanilla.
I said vanilla because when people mention classic they could be saying vanilla tbc or wotlk
You're only saying that out of jealousy for ff14
Give me ff14 classic, Square!
Heavensward when warriors were dps beasts was kino.
Would play just for that and the original hard savage raids that filtered millions.
14 gameplay is ass and every zone is a walled off instance
FF14 isn't even a game, it's an extremely shallow and thinly veiled skinner box built around dressing up dolls like a little girl.
not everyone is into dressing up chud
>built around dressing up dolls like a little girl.
sounds based
>Why is it still so fun playing this even as a jaded 35 year old?
Because the leveling experience actually matters and you aren't just mindlessly being shuffled through a linear order of quest hubs. Classic Hardcore has highlighted just how deadly vanilla actually is and how easily shit hits the fan if you make a single bad decision or have a momentary lapse in concentration.
>calling 14 a skinner box
>in a WoW thread
moron do you even know what a skinner box is? Everything except glamour shit is guaranteed in 14. You can calculate exactly how long it's going to be before you get your BiS and the RNG aspect only lessens that time instead of adding to it.
Cos you are mentally ill
You grew up on vanilla during when your life was better and easier with no stress going on.
It's your safe space.
The magic comes from the bowl you hit before loging in
how many fem priest are there though and can you see their tummy?
How can a game like WoW have a seamless world while FFXIV still has walled off zones?
lmao
because wow has dogshit textures everywhere that barely take up resources
you mean wow has SOUL as opposed to the PS3 glittergarbage that FF passes off as artistic direction
ff14 has the greatest art direction and visual effects of any video game
Tell me more, anon.
what, like how it also has the best music, story, and characters of any video game?
XIV 1.0 was seamless until it was redesigned for PS3s.
FF14 should just delete every zone that isn't a city because there's no point and they add absolutely nothing to the game. They're nearly 100% empty all the time and the only reason to go to them is for sidequests that are painfully boring to get through because these jap retards designed a game that's literally impossible to die in. FF14 has the most braindead combat ever conceived in a video game. I don't think it even deserves to be called a "game" at this point.
It has rotations more complex than any other mmorpg.
Even if I were to pretend this is true, then why the fuck did they design all the overworld combat to be braindead retardedly easy? Why even have a world to explore when every mob you fight is exactly the same thing with no decisions to make and no consequences for doing anything? In wow classic you're going to die hundreds of times outside of dungeons if you're a casual player learning the game. In ff14 you will die exactly zero times leveling to 90 even if you're a retard with down syndrome.
I died plenty of times in dungeons, trials, and sometimes even the overworld. It's not braindead easy like you think it is. Gear still matters a lot, if you're underleveled and undergeared you will die.
The world exists for story and a lot of it is completely optional. The game isn't trying to kill you in the same way that vanilla WoW is. Many of the mobs are actually dangerous but you almost never die because aggro ranges are small and respawns aren't fucked so you're never in anything more than a 1vs1 unless you're actively choosing to do so.
Back in ARR and Heavensward the world was mildly dangerous in certain areas if you were careless(this is back when grinding FATEs was considered the best method of leveling for several level ranges including the last stretch leading up to the level 50 cap) you could easily get overwhelmed and die but just like every game character power creep happened and QoL was implemented so those dangers either ceased to be or there is very little reason to be exposing yourself to them. Dangerous enemies did and still do exist(there are enemies in starting areas that deal tens of thousands of damage which can not be survived until near level cap and no I'm not talking about hunt targets) but game changes have diminished player exposure.
complex rotations does not make a good mmorpg.
FF14 2.0 is still built on the same engine as 1.0, which was terrible and littered with awful design decisions. They made it zone based because FF11 was zone based and they made absolutely massive copypasted zones to try to make the game seem more grandiose and epic than it was. If you ever played FF14 before 2.0 hit, the maps were fucking disgustingly bad. The black outlined area is the 2.0 map placed on top of the 1.0 map, they ended up cutting out the entirety of most of the zones in 2.0 to remove all the copypasted areas.
Why can't japs into open world game design? Somehow the west already figured it out in the mid 90s.
>zoomers will never know the pure bliss of spending every night in the college dorms adventuring in azeroth with your roommates and everyone else on your floor had their doors open playing the game too
It really was a magical time. It was like being at a non stop lan party every night for 4 years straight.
Is vanilla classic still worth it?
the game is alright but buying raid gear for gold has become a very ingrained part of the game, be ready to join nothing but gdkps or gbid runs once you reach 60, and the ones advertising in trade chat are usually really low quality. Also a lot of boosting services being sold all the time. If you can look past that, at it's core the game is still fun
>Why is it still so fun playing this even as a jaded 35 year old?
Because you are a jaded 35 year old
it's true, it's the best popular mmo to this day. there's a polish and level of detail in the game world that other mmo creators don't really put into theirs.
thought about resubbing since i imagine all the sweats are playing hardcore and i just want to do cozy dungeons with other casuals
you played it as a developing kid and it’s lodged itself inside your brain
If you play WoW in current year I genuinely think you should head down to your local doctors office and get an official Stockholm syndrome diagnosis.
Playing through this garbage as a prot warrior with no prior experience to WoW was as grating as running my nuts across broken glass but I did enjoy learning how to manage aggro properly and the loot drama. The people make this game fun, not the game itself.
>Why is it still so fun playing this even as a jaded 35 year old
wrong site?
Most of Ganker is in their 30s. Zoomers by and large don’t play video games, only mobile games.
only troomers play blizzardshit
Be real with me
Is it possible to enjoy PVP in any form in Classic in 2023? Preferrably world PVP. Do any fresh servers ever get released? Or is everywhere just PvE hugboxes and """hardcore""" servers where no one dares flag for any reason?
Right now? No. Vanilla has the issue of PvP gear being shit and completely overshadowed by raid gear. TBC has a similar issue; PvP equipment simply doesn't have enough gem sockets or raw stats to compare with tier Hyjal/BT/Sunwell gear which is bloated with gem sockets so something like Sunwell pants with 3x Resilience gems is strictly superior to Brutal Glad pants.
Wrath PvP is actually pretty solid but your best bet for enjoying it is waiting until the Cata pre-patch so you can easily farm all the gear. There are still a handful of PvE items that bleed into PvP but it's nowhere near the level seen in vanilla or TBC. You can actually compete with full PvP gear in Wrath(though Shadowmourne is a stand-out example of PvE power creep ruining the PvP experience.) Wrath is also the expansion that became completely fucking bloated with daily quests so it's easy to pick a quest hub and engage in PvP fuckery as people come along.
Pretty good take tbh. I agree with most of this.
I don't even care for PVP tho, so whatever. Classic ftw.
>the Cata pre-patch
Why would there be a cata pre-patch if there isn’t going to be a cata classic?
Because it's essentially just the final balance patch. It's part of Wrath.
>"your best bet for enjoying it is waiting until the Cata pre-patch"
>"It's part of Wrath"
>the patch that absolutely fucked up all the class balance
What the fuck are you on?
WoW PvP balance has always been fucked and the built in class imbalances brought with the patch are counteracted by the availability of PvP gear. Shut the fuck up retard.
PRIEST or WARLOCK for my next HC?
I dicked around with warrior for a bit (lvl11) and don't think I'll want to play it more. Want to cast stuff.
Priest.
Its STILL the best MMO on the market.
Unfortunately.
wow classic is for chads that got careers, married women, fucked the shit out of tons of girls, had healthy kids, absolute kino game for gigachads that have friends and normal lives
ffxiv is for trannies like actual dudes that wear their moms underwear and paint their nails and shop for skirts online
You aint playing classic and having any of that. You are lonely loser in your 30s wanking off to your female character. All mmo players are cattle that should be purged
>ffxiv is for trannies
It doesn't matter how much you spam this. Nothing is going to change the fact that Blizzard is now an LGBT company making an LGBT game for LGBT players. Run along and have fun doing quests to fix gay relationships provided by quest givers who will tell you their entire life story about how transitioning saved them. I'll be doing my FATE where you literally escort a prostitute to a beach shack so she can get her pussy drilled for money.
This is a wow classic thread. Nobody cares about retail.
gayry started showing up as early as Wrath which is a part of Classic.
The only real wow classic is classic era servers.
You aren’t fooling anyone
Reminder that this is classic WoW’s most popular YouTuber
I’m so tired of crossdressers bros
I remember when the world didn’t have all this gay shit
I was playing halo 2 on Xbox shit was SO cash
Crossdressing has existed for as long as human civilizations have existed. Hell, several cultures around the world have theater done entirely by men including playing the parts of female characters.
Are you a chuder bro why you doing this
Get some real pussy my guy then you won’t be simping for homosexuals
>retard gets called out for being a retard
>immediately lashes out with fallacies after being backed into a corner
Pathetic.
>doesn’t address the very apparent truth that this poster is, in fact, a transsexual
Find the nearest phone and dial 8
>Hell,
Because it reminds you of the last time in your life that you felt happy
You need to let go anon, there is more out there than WoW
Oh great another nostalgia thread for a 19 year old game.
Because you were 17 when you first played vanilla, if it released today you would consider it a pos for zoomers.
you don't like games, you like wow blizzdrone
>play private server thats free
no bots in bgs
>play blizztrash
full of bots
no
>Why is it still so fun playing this even as a jaded 35 year old?
Honestly, you're going to have to be the one to tell us anon. Because I played regularly from open beta to end of WotLK, and I can't find any fun in WoW anymore and quit trying to find it.
What makes it fun these days?
Mankriks husband
>What makes it fun these days?
Nothing.
Only people still playing these days are mostly on classic, and it's just for nostalgia.
Younger gamers are playing other things, and WoW will eventually die off as they eventually age out.
>retard gets blown the fuck out
>commence the basedjak
I don’t care about the argument and didn’t read it, it’s a fact that “Hell” is a very common Redditism and I’ll always point that out when a Redditor outs themselves like that.
>chud chud chud
Easiest way to spot a newfag.
Havent played WoW classic since the start of the year. Want to come back and try to finish leveling my warrior character. Is classic still alive or did hardcore kill it?
Stop giving blizzard money you retards. Play on private servers.
I farmed tokens for a few months in wotlk gdkp raids.
>play on private server
>save money
>private server shuts down
>time spent stolen
yeah, nah
>time spent stolen
You play mmos.
That time would be stolen regardless.
Turtle wow has been up for years you lying blizz shill. The other servers even have forever realms on top of seasonal ones.
>blizz shill
i have not played a blizzard game since cataclysm. also private servers are shit, either they shut down or they are run by powertripping mods that take bribes
don't forget basic mechanics like LoS not working
So it's almost been 20 years since his start-
Did he take you back to the past?
Reminder that WoW ruined the Warcraft franchise and Blizzard as a whole, despite the profits, or maybe due to it.
Played it for a while, it's incredibly dull, and with no visual appeal.
Reminder that if you use addons you're not really playing wow classic. Having an addon that tells you exactly where to go and what to do for every quest is the polar opposite of what the vanilla wow experience actually was.
bro I played Vanilla WoW and there were addons and guides that told you exactly where to go and what to do. They were just a lot less popular because most people who played the game were drooling retards, and most of the guides cost actual money.
Sure, if you're using Questie or something your first time playing the game, yeah you're retarded. But some boomer playing Vanilla WoW again after 15 years or whatever shouldn't give a fuck.
Because it's an mmorpg inspired by 40k made back when devs didn't have to bend the knee to Twitter.Made by gamers for gamers.
Where in contrast Retail WoW is made by data analysts and psychologists.
Because it's literally the best game ever bro as long as you quit before you start raiding
Wow's popularity makes plenty of snowflakes seethe but it's the facts
