Why is it that when Castlevania did the whole metroidvania thing it sells well but if it's Metroid nobody gives a shit?

Because melee combat is fun and ranged combat sucks.
Because ranged combat is fun and melee combat sucks.
Metroid games struggle to find the fun in their mandatory backtracking and world design. You're never hit with an element of discovery and satisfaction, just "oh they want me to go through here to go back to here just so I can come back and go through here."
this. retro snuck some fun into the prime games but before that it was sorely lacking.
I've always found CV to be superior in atmosphere to Metroid and that goes a long way.
>it sells well
lol
lmao
Castlevania games are lucky to break one million. Only like 3 ever did, and SotN was one of them, only reaching that through multiple rereleases.
This. Super Metroid sold 1.4 million
SOTN sold only 700k on saturn+psx, only after re-releases on xbox and ps3 that reached 1millon 10 years later.
Yeah, exactly.
Castlevania sells worse, though undeservedly since it's at least just as good as Metroid.
The better question is why is it that shitty soulless indie trashoidcringias like Hollow Knight and Axiom Verge sell more than both series combined?
>widely accessible
>had games in the past decade
pretty hard to sell when you can't even be bothered with farting out a collection like crapcom
Good post
Shit OP with shit thread.
It has a lot more flexibility and variety. You can choose what kind of weapons you want to use that are all different but ranged weapons do still exist. You have magic spells, the sub weapons, there's just tons of ways to play the games the way you want to. Metroid has a regular shot and a charged shot, that's it.
Customization makes it much more fun, especially when replaying it if you're not a speed run obsessed autist.
Metroid games sold much better than castlevania games. SOTN had mediocre sales compared to Super Metroid or Metroid Fusion.
Metroid has never once done metroidvania
this tbh
metroid is pure
Samus is a virgin and also my wife
Alucard is a homosexual lol
>Metroid has never once done metroidvania
What did he mean by this?
Metroid has never done the "vania" part of Metroidvania
every mobile metroid game
Because sci-fi is for autistic children while campy Gothic horror is for well adjusted literature fans
And the gameplay is better
Turns out late 1800 gothic fantasy is more enjoyable than science fiction.
Castlevania has iconic monster and boss designs while Metroid is still mostly stuck with Kraid and Ridley.
>a bunch of people glued to a ball
>iconic boss design
behold...iconic boss design
That shit from halo
>halo
https://www.metroidwiki.org/wiki/Phazon_Elite
Legion is kino
I can't think of one Metroid boss that looks good or has cool lore
raven beak
metroid has a literal brain in a jar both series has some lame designs
>Turns out late 1800 gothic fantasy is more enjoyable than science fiction.
>Castlevania has iconic monster and boss designs while Metroid is still mostly stuck with Kraid and Ridley.
Nah, Metroid evolved with Prime games. Castlevania got stucked on metroidvania, 3d castlevanias was always mediocre until LOS which was more closer to GOW rather than anything related to castlevania.
castlevania unironically evolved into demon's souls and dark souls
Nah, castlevania is still castlevania. Demon Souls and Dark Souls is mostly Zelda meets Kings Field.
>instead of bangin tracks all the time it's silence 95% the time
no
>Metroid is still mostly stuck with Kraid and Ridley.
Castlevania is still stuck on Rondo Sprites, I mean, they even reuse SNES sprites on DS games.
Because Metroid feels more impersonal even with overarching lore, mostly thanks to Samus being silent in a majority of the games. Castlevania meanwhile has defined characters with personalities and they all play slightly different from each other in their respective games (that's not including the widely different mechanics in them). Conversely in Metroid it's all Samus all the time.
Nintendo has always undersold the importance of having actual world building that is semi coherent.
It should work since metroid games sold always better than castlevania games.
thats fine, they were never better games and that's all that matters
how? the only good castlevania in metroidvania formula is SOTN and maybe aria/dawn of sorrow. all other games are very divisive and derivative, with the same sprites, reused art, etc.
Remember Konami canned castlevania because after LOS2 it become a cursed IP while metroid is having a new renaissance
even the most divisive exploration castlevania is still more fun than the best metroid.
sales dont say the same
Sales =/= quality.
You troons always argue in bad faith and spew bullshit like this.
More people obviously like castlevania as thats multiplat, continues to get homages and -likes made of it.
Where are all the metroid multiplats? Or all those metroid-like games?
Face reality and facts. Metroid is a niche series.
>Where are all the metroid multiplats?
You can't be this moronic
I can play metroid on my xbox?
>Where are all the metroid multiplats?
>Remember Konami canned castlevania because after LOS2 it become a cursed IP
that's one way of putting "making shit games for half a decade"
probably because literally the only reason anyone has ever cared about metroid is for the porn
OP I'm sure this was a drive by shitpost but in case you're around, I'm genuinely curious as to why you thought SotN/Castlevanias sold well (or better than Metroid at least)? Did something specific put that thought in your head, or are you just equating the large number of "Metroidvanias" spawned in style of SotN to the original game's own success?
have a nice day doug
>doug
is this another one of those boogeymen that tendo tots come up like barry and assassins creed gay?
*deletes Prime shit*
What's Ayami Kojima doing these days?
She did the art for Bloodstained.
Is not her
I know art for video games is just a side thing for her, so she's likely making art for her main audience.
Metroid doesn't have a b***hin cape
I'm pretty sure Super Metroid sold way more than SoTN's OG release.
thats nice stockholder
>Why does this game sell better.
>It doesn't.
>That's nice.
Do you think about whatever half-idea is stewing in your brain for a second before shitting it out of your mouth?
not op, dont care about sales
nice, no one cares about your opinion
too bad, your mom does.
say my mom name... no?
see? no one care, all is in your mind.
test
Cuz you can frick around a lot more in SOTN. That's not to mention the game's presentation which remains one of the best ever in terms of 2D art and music.
Because people love RPG mechanics and finding loot. Castlevania is more accessible too, it's harder to get stuck in the game and you can grind if something is too difficult.
This.
When you backtrack in SOTN or the like, you've still got the RPG elements in play, so in the back of you're mind you're like "well I'll get more XP while I'm doing it, and maybe some enemies will drop me something rare" and shit.
While in a metroid it's just "GOTTA GO BACK THERE AGAIN HUH" with nothing to gain on the way but more seconds on the clock unless you go poking at the same shit you poked at the first time, hoping maybe you just missed something.
Because Shanoa is a better wife than that prostitute Samus.
underrated woman
STUPID
My sister spent $400 to send me the Saturn version for my birthday.
That's genuinely sweet, you have a good sister. Growing up I've been really surprised by just how many people I know who hate their family deep down.
Who cares, they're all great games
It at least, for sure has the better merch.
Too bad about the shitty anime that normies praise.
Castlevania gameplay at its peak is tight and precise. Your character has to dodge and weave through the enemies precise attack patterns, and they have the moves to do it. Metroid is wobbly and spammy, Samus controls like a wet noodle and wins with raw numbers.
Castlevania has better items collecting aspects, which is a major part of the Metroidvania appeal. Metroid feels more linear in general.
rabi ribi is the best metroidvania ever made
I can't call it the best just because the boss fight systems are not even remotely for everyone.
It's damn good though, and extremely well planned out.
For one the Metroid franchise has only one good soundtrack (Super Metroid) while Castlevania might as well be the greatest videogame franchsie in regards to music
>Castlevania might as well be the greatest videogame franchsie in regards to music
Oh come off it
What's untrue about that statement?

Metroidvania as a genre was created to encompass Castlevania games, it didn't include metroid until zoomed came and misunderstood everything. Thus, by definition, everything that leans more towards Metroid exclusively is a bad Metroidvania
You mean the same zoomies who enforced that new metroidvanias should be SOULS LIKE!?
>Metroidvania didn't include metroid
dumbass Black person
Metroid isn't so focused on collectables. Castlevania is dead anyway. You can't have a game about hating the Antichrist in 2022.
For me, it’s Shadow Complex https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vBnHwVa63I8
I think the main difference is that Castlevania added this entirely new concept of areas being puzzles in themselves and having areas like the library and making the entire castle feel like a single theme with just different rooms to explore. They also added the twist of there being a secret castle and ending and pushed you to explore to gain a percentage. to gain different endings that were genuinely different
Metroid in comparison was fairly straightforward. each area once unlocked is backed finished apart from a few missile tanks or energy banks. you beat the boss and that's pretty much it move on to the next area and finish the game.
Why are you trying to stealth a conflict between castlebros and metroidbros?? We are friends and should support one another
Is bloodstained actually worth sticking with? The graphics make my eyes hurt and it seems pretty generic. which is weird for a game that should be top tier.
I'm up to the first real boss but I feel like dropping it tbh.
its The spiritual succesor
it looks like shit, the setting, characters and monster designs aren't anywhere near as interesting or charming as the real thing and soundtrack has to be one of the weakest yet
besides those however it plays pretty much like DoS and about as close as we're ever getting to castlevania past 2010
why isn't orlok in other games
AAA
Where can a homie play Harmony of Despair these days? Does anyone still play?
what the frick is this shit sega
