Why is open world so hard to do? Blizzard and Rockstar are the only companies to have done it decently.
Good question.
It's hard to give people a reason to explore the world.
Nintendo's best ideas are breaking weapons every 5 seconds and collecting pieces of poop.
That...makes too much sense.
> first hour: wow mountains
> second hour: huh are there only mountains? i can't go over them?
> third hour: oh look i'm being railroaded through an area coz every road is through a pass in the mountains
> fourth hour: nice new areas that aren't part of the open world...ah it's a mountain
wtf were the devs thinking here, like ok cool montana why not add some biome variety in the scripted sections?
Not hard at all
Just generate an empty landscape, paint random assets all over the place then copy-paste ubisoft towers, enemy camps and random collectibles all over the place and you got a smash hit
Worked for nu-zelda
Do you know how does the communication work for such titels like zelda, everything has to come together somehow, does everyone have the opportunity to exchange ideas with the other also to the branch studios?
Can you pls response?
Hello, would be nice for your opinion?
Have you left the topic or why don't you answer more?
>Blizzard
>Rockstar
What you meant to say is they're the ones who've done the best job catering to normalfags. I would guess some sort of market research, a board of people who just read surveys and polls all day are responsible.
open world was always like this, i dont udnerstand why people are mad now
80% of screens in alttp had nothing in the mexcept a couple rupees
>Blizzard and Rockstar
Literally the two worst studios after Ubishit.
Zelda BotW was a borderline perfect video game. Contrary to what the Snoyfags try to copypaste drum around, it's literally anti-Ubishit, and the very medicine this stalling gaming industry has required.
Skyrim was over 11 years ago, and Blackreach is still a better dungeon than anything Zelda has produced since
The depths in totk are much better. Todd Howard was very obviously humbled by breath of the wild.
>Blizzard
>Rockstar
>good open world
shit bait
Blizzard???
Huh???
i mean classic wow was great, but that was 2004. I'd assume you'd keep to stuff recently to compare with BOTW/TOTK.
you're not suggesting that new wow is good in any conceivable way, right? is D4 open world? news to me, and i feel like i'd hear that "well the open world is great, who cares about battle passes!" a lot around here.
*Monolithsoft and Fromsoft are the only companies to have done it decently.
FTFY
What good open world game has Rockstar released since San Andreas?
Both RDR games, GTAIV and GTAV have higher reception than Elden Ring and Tear of the Kingdom
"Higher reception"? You mean more liked by games journalists, which means they're worse games?
No higher reception all around. When a new game drops bragging about quality, tech and features, a Rockstar game is what it's compared to.
>No higher reception all around
Again, higher reception by who?
>BoTW is the most dickriden game of all time by the journos, way to have a nice day in the foot.
So is Elden Ring, but I never said either game was good.
BoTW is the most dickriden game of all time by the journos, way to have a nice day in the foot.
be mad all you want but R* makes the best open worlds all around, they have their very own formula that they've perfected since gta3, many times copied by others but no other game managed to keep up
gta5 is still one of the most played games around even though it came out like 10 years ago, when they will release gta6 it'll sell like crazy and probably be appreciated by journalists and consummers alike, just like rdr2 more recently and basically any game rockstar releases
>they have their very own formula that they've perfected since gta3
If you mean that their games haven't meaningfully changed since then I agree.
>gta5 is still one of the most played games around
So you're saying that it's bad?
>when they will release gta6 it'll sell like crazy
I hope not, it'd be much better if GTA 6 ended up being an actually good game.
I said perfecting it, gta 3 and rdr 2 formula is the same at the basis, but quite different overall
never said that what are you getting at?
we don't know yet, but R* hasn't really disappointed or blundered hard since forever so why whould you even doubt them?
You yourself said GTA 5 is one of the most popular games, so how could it be any good?
It'd be great if GTA 6 ends up being better, but seeing as Rockstar haven't really meaningfully improved since San Andreas and instead just released shitty movie-games like RDR and RDR 2, I'm not exactly holding my breath.
>Rockstar haven't really meaningfully improved since San Andreas
peak R* was IV-RDR
TotK is arguably the best open world game ever.
It's highly interactive with very varied enemy AI, tons of behaviors and ridiculous mechanical depth.

What? Maybe like 20 years ago, sure
