I can't find a picture but I liked what was done with Noctis in the previews of FFXV which was a mixture of anime style with little blemishes here and there. Gave a sense of hyperrealism without being uncanny valley.
Americans view Hollywood as peak culture and profitability so it's what they aim for. Outside the USA, Hollywood isn't worshipped quite the same. Like, you see an interview with Japanese people and they've only heard of our most heavily-advertised stuff like Marvel, etc. The rest of western culture they're thankfully insulated from to a large extent. Same with Europe though not quite at much.
Realism has never been a good goal. Idealism is much better. I don't play games to look at ugly "realistic" people - give me idealised, beautiful women. Videogames allow you to model stylized perfection.
