unironically it's highly filtering. also, relegating the story to manuals and others stuff outside of the vidyas is moronic. pity because eg the whole drama betweein lau chan, pai chan and lei-fei is pretty kino

This. I'd love if VF6 would go back to uneaven arenas seeing as they were the first ones to do it properly in VF3 -- 2 years before DoA2 and 7 years before Tekken 4. It's like Itagaki said once:
      >shame that after VF3 they went back to the basics instead of continuing being the ground-breaking franchise that it constantly had been.
He also trashed Tekken 4 due to being so late to the party and it yet executed it so badly.

with DoA most likely dead and MK probably never returning to the DeceptionShaolin Monks actual-3D arenas, the spot is open. But tbh they'll probably look at Tekken that never was ahead of the curve and how it keeps selling like hotcakes so they'll won't go that extra step and will keep being a variation of Korean Backdash-3D

Project X Zone was pretty interesting. You actually had the Street Fighter, Tekken, and Virtua Fighter characters in the same universe. Somehow, those characters had never fought at that point.

Heck, it took until the Sequel for characters from there to fight, and it was a 3 on 3 on 3 duel. Jin, Ryu, and Akira on one side, Heihachi, Ken, and Chris Redfield on the other, and Kazuya, Kazuma Kiryu, and Phoenix Wright on the last.

AND WE DON'T EVEN SEE IT!

I have hopes for it, to be honest. I think it will be a surprise game announcement anytime soon. Bamco is finished with SRW 30, the Xenoblade series is just getting DLC now. Surely they have time for Project X Zone now!

Hard game, many moves, much technical
Most characters lack visual impact or flashy moves
Is there even a plot? I've played more than half the series and I don't even know. Fight Dural though - this featureless model with funny texture effects.
The latest release was a bomb that had one job (netcode) and they fricked it up while removing most of the customization content (Not that this matters if nobody plays it to begin with.)
Shit job with advertising, too. If you weren't alive during the early Sega days then you probably only know this series as "That minigame from the Yakuza series."

I like the series but the answer to "What went wrong?" is basically "Everything."

      Anonymous

      >Is there even a plot?
the main one is mostly around kage-maru, the J6 and their project Dural (kidnapping his mother). the other characters have their own shit going on, some complex like lau chan and others more simple like jeffry's eternal battle with the giant shark for his comfy boat.
it's mostly relegated to the manuals and side-stuff; never the main focus in the games outside of short intros and endings

VF and it's fans really deserve each other. Put any VF gay in charge of the franchise and they'll just take the exact same game, upscale it to 4k. And when the game and franchise fails again for the 100th time he can just lay back, eat oysters and listen to edith piaf while smelling his own farts and proclaim that "the game is just too technical". The fans of this series are its biggest enemies. Just give it to anyone at this point. Say frick the fans and do something radical with the series. If it fails it'll just be another failiure like a traditional release would be.

. now go ahead and apply the same reasoning to the tekken franchise and its fans, which gobble up the most stale fighting vidya out there nonstop

Because they refused to make it more appealing. It looks incredibly janky, especially when doing combos. There is a reason why Tekken added bound and later screw. Also this comes from someone who actually likes VF, I have great memories of playing VF4 at a local arcade after football practice. When I showed my fighting game mates (whom all play other games) the latest VF game, they bursted out laughing as to how stupid it looks. This is not how you sell copies, no matter how legendary or deep your game series is. I think KoFXV also partly suffered from this poor presentation. That game isn't necessarily ugly but they really fricked up the particle effects. Just take a screenshot of Joe Higashi's tornadoes and try to sell that to a normie gamer.

Also a lot of people as adults pick up fighting games because they had it as children as a party game where they just smashed buttons.
No idea why Virtual Fighter wasn't a popular fighting game for children but that's part of why Tekken, SF and especially smash are popular as competitive games

    the gameplay is amazing
    sega however, is not

they tried to push esports for vf5us but really its just vf5fs ps3/360 with even less content and new graphics.
ranked is useless and it was supposed to be the selling point.
they don't show wired/wireless indicators, so you're going to lose to dumb shit in the higher ranks.

i'll play it if it comes to steam, but I'm not going to boot up my ps4 in 2022 because some sony exclusivity deal lol
whats even sadder is that you can play the exact same game on ps3 with free online right now.

To you VF fans who actually cares about this franchise and want to see it grow. What changes would you make to see the next game grow in popularity, gain new players and gain a hype train? And I'm not only talking about the oh so scary casual players. There are plenty of mid tier and highly technical fgc players who gives zero fricks about VF.
