jrpgs are the "filler arc" of video games. they pad them with inane bullshit to create the illusion of content when in reality they are just trying to arbitrarily increase the game length to 80 hours so they can pretend there is content other than mashing X through text boxes.
>. they pad them with inane bullshit to create the illusion of content
You didn't enjoy that you had to change trains in P5? That was my favorite part of the game.
>game immerses the player in its setting
>aaaaahhh its just filler and padding wtf shit sucks
>game streamlines everything to fasten the pace of the game
>aaaahhh its just dumbed down bullshit wtf shit sucks
I hope you die in a fire.
>game wastes your time
>wow im so immersed by switching trains very atmospheric
>>game immerses the player in its setting
>persona
>immersive
Embarrassing
>it's not immersive... because it just isn't, okay?
>other than mashing X through text boxes.
Are you playing these games for the gameplay or something? If you're not there for the story and characters, what the frick are you doing?
*unrapes you*
YOU MONSTER! YOU MADE ALL OF MY FRIENDS HAPPY AND BROUGHT BACK MY DEAD BOYFRIEND??!?!?!? I WON'T STAND FOR THIS!
>years later this one villain still filters morons
what filter dumbas, he did unrape Shiho.
It's all in ya head Luigi!
Escapism bad bro, you must suffer in reality.
Yes
why didn't he bring the sister back
because that doesn't make him feel better, he truly believes Sumire is happier being her sister than bringing kasumi back
then he's actually dumb and someone in game should have called him out for that, especially because it makes him look unnecessarily villainous tentacle raping sumire into being her sister again when he could just bring Kasumi back and change Sumire to just not have an inferiority complex
The point is that he only ever does what people want or specifically ask for. He never makes judgements about how their life could be improved unless their want is unattainable. The Sumire situation does feel a bit like a plothole, though, because Maruki's intention was to rewrite reality, not just change some people's cognitions. In his new reality, Sumire's parents still saw her as Sumire and she still only perceived that they saw her as Kasumi. It's not really clear how this would become reality when there's an inherent conflict there. It was clearly created with the intent of making Maruki's reality seem less ideal. Without this, it would have been much harder for the game to convince players that Maruki was misguided.
I use the example with Sumire, because as a functioning adult Maruki should probably know that taking a grieving teenager girl at her word (especially for something so life changing) probably isn't the best idea. It just weakens his character when it doesn't have to, if this was solely a conflict ideals between Maruki and the Phantom Thieves I think it would make the whole Royal plot better as a result.
Yeah, but like I said, it was obviously the only way Atlus knew to make him look bad.
No one unrapes my b***hes, my bro joker has me covered
every fricking thread
It's a sony movie game.
what did you expect?
Futaba sleeping for a whole month had me crawling up the walls, at least put her in a hospital and say she's in a coma, but no, she's just fricking hibernating.
I wanted to hold off on beating the boss specifically to avoid that only for the game to make a day where I can't do anything else anyway.
filtered.
should have watched the cutscenes on youtube while playing a fun game instead
You can skip most of the dialogue and not miss anything because so much of it is
>"Do you think stealing the treasure will work? I know it did the last 5 times, but do you think stealing the treasure will work?"
>"We can only wait and see"
>"Yeah...I'll text you again tomorrow to ask if you think stealing the treasure will work the way stealing the treasure worked the last 5 times we stole the treasure"
I played the game a second time when Royal came out, and despite the fact that Royal has more content and I did about the same amount of side stuff as in my first vanilla playthrough, I got through Royal 20 hours faster because I skipped any dialogue that repeated something already discussed. 20 fricking hours.
The fricking text messages are the worst about this. You can literally skip every text after Kamoshida and not miss a fricking thing.
I realized that about halfway through royal and it made me realize that even half of the conversations are just retreads of some previous conversation, so much of the dialogue in this game is completely redundant
wooooah bro, you're just going to skip all the important character development? you need to get emotionally invested in your party.
Any tips for someone who started a new game? Serious replies, only, please.
just play it, it's an easy game that holds your hand
all you need to know is that you have to hang out with your therapist or else you'll miss out in 20 hours of content
If it isn't your first persona game then just treat it the same as the others. Bring the corresponding persona with you when doing social links, max the important ones.
Fuse personas into stronger ones as soon as they learn all of their skills or when they're lagging behind. Make sure to try and cover every weakness and you can bullshit your way through pretty much any fight in the game until maybe the last few areas.
Also bring personas with the same arcana as the social link you're about to do so you waste less time in the long run.
That being said, do whatever you feel is more fun since the game isn't very strict with time management compared to other games in the series.
Prioritize levelling up Takemi's confidant and get it to rank 7 asap, rank 5 unlocks SP adhesive accessories and rank 7 halves the prices, a team with all SP adhesives is a massive boon for a big portion of the game
start Tora's social link (dude on a soapbox in Shibuya at night) he gives the ability to shake down shadows for more money
Hifumi (girl at the church, you unlock it later) lets you earn more money for ambushes in battles and lets you swap out party members in combat
Bring along a Persona of the corresponding arvana when doing confidants (have a death arcana when doing Tae's confidants for example) even if you just have to buy a cheap one in the velvet room
always be keeping up with fusion, its the bread and butter of this game
Try get palaces done with as few trips as possible, the aforementioned SP adhesives help massively with this
The devil confidant isn't that great, but you get +3 charm every visit, so its worth doing early
earn a lot of money, like the sun confidant helps.
being high level is a requirement for your velvet room progress to get stronger
Have personas with their weaknesses covered up from fusion
Brew some coffee to not run out of mana on bosses
Strength confidant to max level then electric chair the right personas for the ultimate melee/gun weapons
etc and etc
etc and etc
Max out Chihaya/Fortune ASAP and it'll make the rest of the game easier
Kawakami/Temperance as well, though that's less helpful than it was in vanilla
If you've played the previous Persona games, you will be disappointed by the difficulty.
Ignore the Strength confidant perk that lets you fuse above your level, Fusion Alarms, DLC personas, SP adhesives, and play on hard/merciless if you want any semblance of balance. It will still be really easy.
Max ryuji, hifumi, caroline and Justine, the politican dude and mishima confidants, these are the most useful for overall experience of the game with ryuji literally destroying shadow by just running on them, hifumi with letting you change members all the time and mishima sharing same exp for the members who don't fight, the politican dude helps with shadow negotiations who overlevel you and caroline/justice basically gives you more options in general
Also don't ignore maruki unless you want to loose waaay extra content
Playing pool let's you upgrade your technical combos. Getting to to make rank means that they guarantee downs and do more damage.
On July 1 a speed reading book becomes available in the library.
play darts with your friends
The best team is joker as fill in/buffer/debuffer, ruji as phs dmg/ Ann as magic dmg, And mona as healer miracle punch user. Ignore waifu homosexuals
Do what you want, ignore tryharding, romance your waifu, go blind, and have fun.
Persona 5 is best played with an anal plug at all times
How is the anime?
I've been meaning to binge something while I mindlessly play SMT4
pretty soulless
It's really bad. Animation is really mediocre, pacing is break necking, if you never played the game you'd be lost what was going on most of the time. It takes revisions on the story that are pointless but then leaves things that could use some rework alone. It also tries to fit all the confidants in one way or another which mucks up an already rough plot.
I sooner encourage people to just watch a let's play of the game than put them through the anime
>Animation is really mediocre
What's fricked up is they got a good team to make the series, but they fricking rushed them to get it out before Royal
>tfw the teacher's chalk throw was better animated than the boss fights
>I sooner encourage people to just watch a let's play of the game than put them through the anime
It's okay, JohneAwesome. Even if I stopped watching your videos, I still kept my subscription to you.
I keep telling myself I'll watch his SMT5 run but I keep forgetting.
>Base P5
>worst character
>Royal
>best character
how did they do it?
They changed the Social Link, made him more transparent, and with third semester he got no redemption arc, they kept him as a sociopath that the power of friendship couldn't fix, which is somewhat refreshing.
I can fix him.
He topped the polls in Japan, so they brought him back, which is fair I guess, what I didn't like however is how they pussied out with the conclusion to his arc. The game never tells you if he lives or dies. Are you fricking kidding me? He's a big celebrity and literally no one is gonna report on his fate? Main story wise, he's supposed to be dead, but again, no reports and you see his silhouette pass by in the post-credits scene, so you're free to headcanon whatever (which is awful writing).
He definitely died. And how would anyone know he's dead? For all they know he jsut disappeared from the public eye because I'm guessing you can't recover bodies from the cognitive world and they never show up in the real world.
That's just typical Atlus stuff. Make no mistake that he's dead for all intents and purposes, his fate and current status will be debated for years because of "muh ambiguous ending" but he won't appear for anything other than a Q style story that takes place during a period where he's alive ever again. Think Chidori after FES added the option to save her.
he's shitty good boy persona was boring. Once he turned full edge lord then he became interesting
by making everyone else shitty
Basically, Royal version is Person 5 + expansion pack.
So it is actually two games not one
That is the dumbest, gayest take possible. How does it feel to be king homosexual for a day?
It's more like Royal is Person 5 + 3 expansion packs, but that isn't even getting into all the small changes they did throughout the game.
Use a guide, it gives you the full experience in the shortest time possible. I think despite Royal having more content I beat it in 94 hours versus the 102 it took in the base game. If I had paid attention to the insta kill QoL change it probably would have cut it down even more, but I didn’t discover it till halfway through Okumura’s palace.
They wanted to make it even longer by adding Hifumi as a phantom thief lul
What did you all think of the secret ending?
r8 my 'sonas
moronbro... Angelic Grace and Ali Dance don't stack...
yeah, I only found out after I stopped playing kek
>no unkillable fafnir
mirin that Lucifer
No trimpet boi
By the 8th palace I said to myself "if not now then when" and summoned Izanagi-no-Okami Picaro, maxed him the frick out, gave him Null Phys and equipped that accessory with Null Bless/Curse. Basically he had 87 Magic by the 9th palace and I was casually one shotting everything. Way stronger than Alice as nothing at all resists/blocks almighty.
Did I miss out on some fusion autism shenanigans? I had about 80% compendium completion by the end.
Also, I looked it up only after beating the game, but apparently Satanael can be fused as a regular persona. Is he any good?
fusion autism can be fun if you're a min-max autist
satanael is NG+ exclusive and isn't all that great considering. it's a gimped version of the satanael that shows up against yaldy.
>tfw I'm past Sae's palace and my Persona Compendium is probably at around 20% because I only use sexy women Personas + Arsene
Is what it is, I guess.
Satanael is pretty underwhelming, and also NG+ exclusive. Still pretty frickhuge compared to most personas, though, so there's that.
What else is NG+ exclusive? Heard you can fight the twins and Lavenza, how do you do that?
they will be outside the velvet room door when u go to mementos, talk to them and you can fight them
>how do you do that?
You can fight the twins after you unlock Mementos in the main story and the same goes for Lavenza in the third semester if you beat the twins already.
December fricking sucks if you spend your time prior wisely
>barebones braindead dungeons
>characters constantly repeat themselves in never-ending cutscenes
This game could have been like 70 hours tops if Japs weren’t so moronic to make the devs feel the need to explain everything ten times over through npc dialogue
braindead dungeons
that's not true at all
They’re all super linear. I did all of them in the minimum amount of time, blind, and the only things that ever tripped me up were like two mini-bosses and the Okumura bossfight
They might be linear but having actual dungeons is much better than having 10 identical random generated floors like in P4
Skip the non-voiced dungeon dialogue and most text messages. They’re filler.
I deleted the game after the egyptian temple/acquiring the hacker girl. I liked the game, the first 20 or so hours were great, but the repetition killed the game for me. I tried so hard to put up with it, but by the fifth temple going through the same motions I had enough.
Does the ending switch up the formula at all? Or is it bog standard all the way through?
It’s the same all the way through. The new arc in Royal is better than most of the game, but still structured about the same. The dialogue only gets more repetitive as the game goes on, and the worst parts of the story are later in the game.
the royal exclusive palace does, but you have about 4 more before you get to that
the game falls off hard after kamoshida
You know the anime only covers up to the point when "the flashback" ends. It's doesn't even do the games full story or any major reveals. Also it has some terrible animation
>You know the anime only covers up to the point when "the flashback" ends
Wait so it stops at the exact moment the story turns to shit? Pretty based.
most of the game after ann's dungeon drags a lot, there is a lot of bloat
Dropped it shortly after the Art History dude was introduced. I played P5Scramble before P5/P5R and wow I set my expectations too high
You go insane from long games.
I stop playing games I don't like and don't want games I like to end.
You are pathetic.
how do i pirate this game?
rpcs3 + persona 5 on ps3
Only if you are moronic, just emulate the switch version
royal isnt worth it anyway
The overall changes are, stop being stupid
>emulate switch
>emulate ps3
>get gp for 1$
There you go lad
You can emulate the original PS3 version or the Switch port of Royal.
It has to be that long for you to have enough time to get all your social ranks up and do all the content.
p3 p4 or p5 as my first persona game?
P4G.
None of those. P1, dumbass.
Play the SEBEQ Route on the PS1 version, and the Snow Queen Route on the PSP version.
Dunno about p3. P4 has better story/characters/relationships, p5 has better gameplay and a lot more stylish
>P4 has better story/characters/relationships
P3FES
For me, it was the third form of final bosses
>volleyball teacher
>bad guy
you've been bluepilled
>male teacher has sex with female student
Police involved.
>female teacher that did sex work on the side gives a "massage" to her male student often
No repercussions.
One was consensual, one was blackmail and nonconsensual.
To be clear, it's not age that's the deciding factor of if it's fricked up or not. The Age of Consent is 13 in Japan. It's the "Teacher-Student" aspect that would be frowned upon.
The age of consent in Japan isn't 13, stop repeating this lie anon
I stand partially corrected. Looks like it does range from location to location. Still, it's consensual so if a tree falls in a forest but nobody's around to hear it, etc. Kawakami and Joker both WANT to be together. We can debate morals, but that much is true. Shido and Ann didn't want to be with Kamoshida, hence why one threw herself off a roof and the other had to be convinced not to put a bullet in his metaphorical head.
Alright. I might still have time for that.
Done.
>Alright. I might still have time for that.
bring faith persona, should work. I think they give you plenty of chances to hang out with her leading up iirc.
*Shiho. My bad.
Imagining Shido and Kamoshida together...yikes all around.
Joker is 17, he still isn't at the age of consent in Tokyo.
And it's like I said, we can argue about whether it's legally or morally "right" compared to what Kamoshida wanted, but the fact is he was a pompous creep who had to either blackmail the unwilling or levy his former glory as a athlete against the naïve.
Dating Kawakami is fine because...IT JUST IS, OKAY?!
Dating Kawakami is fine
Dating Tae is superior, though
Why fight amongst ourselves, as fellow hag-lovers?
The riper the berry, the sweeter the juice, be it blackberry or razzberry.
mah homie
I'm still doing my first playthrough at the moment, and I definitely didn't manage my time well, but I will have unironically maxed out all the adult female confidants before the game is over, along with one or two other random characters.
First was Tae, then Kawakami who I actually chose to date, then Chihaya, and last will be Ohya. I don't hate her as much as others tend to. She's fine. A different haircut would revolutionize her appeal, though.
I wanted to date Sae.
Even if he was 18 it would probably still be illegal because of 'muh position of power and responsibility' and all that
Might want to update that with the 2022 law changes.
>The Age of Consent is 13
In a backwoods prefecture it is. In Tokyo it is 18.
make sure you don't miss ranking up the 3 characters if you want the true ending, otherwise you gotta play another 80 hours to see it.
...I didn't need to get Yoshizawa to a particular rank before the 17, did I?
I just barely managed to get Akechi and Maruki to their needed levels, meanwhile I kinda left Yoshizawa on the backburner since she'd only be useful in the even that I got the third semester and I didn't want to date her.
Yoshizawa has to be rank 5 by December 18th.
For akechi you also need specific dialogues to unlock his third form persona with telling him "we are rivals" and "don't forget our promise"
2nd time I got filtered on Hard
difficulties are so dumb because of the fact that weakness deals more damage on merciless
>attention span the size of an ant
Can you complete all Confidant social links even when you don't have the necessary Personas with you?
if you finish top10 in exams then you no longer need matching personas for characters in the school+sojiro
Why?
Atlus deemed it so
Okay, but why the text score affect things?
It multiples confidant points to the same level that having a matching arcana does, in effect the latter is no longer necessary.
Am I playing P5R with a stroke? I'm 100 hours in and I JUST finished Haru's palace.
You sure are taking your time, i've finished the palace after that and advanced the story some after. All at 92 hours. And i even did all the metaverse quests i could find, i have no idea what you've been doing.
Jeez, Anon.
I'm at like 80 hrs and I just finished Sae's Palace yesterday. Are you just letting the game idle or are you combing the absolute shit out of the palaces? Or are you just fricking around in Mementos a bunch?
56 hours here and just sent the calling card for okumura. I just want to finish the game already lol
Hope your butthole is ready. The Okumura boss fight got more deaths out of me than the past 5 palaces did combined. Including their bosses.
Oh boy
Unironically, you're halfway through the game. Admittedly that's because of Royale post game content but still.
why are you doing it to yourself
you will just get burnt out and end up hating the game
i loved it right away and did ng+ back to back, played for like 230 hours and never had a single thought about it dragging on
I like the game I just need a break but too autistic to stop until I beat it
I left the game on idle several times, did all social links and mementos missions I could and at 100 hours I was at least fighting Yaldy.
>”durrrrr longer = better value per dollar”
>”there’s no such thing as filler”
>”I just watched the cutscenes on youtube anyway”
Actual conversations I’ve had with morons on this board about this fricking game.
>AGHHHH NOOOO!! GIVE ME LESS VALUE FOR MONEY! I'M GOING INSAAAAAANE!
Enjoy it while you can, onces it ends it will leave you empty inside
Heh, i have persona 3 and 4 still to look forward to. I already know whodunnit though.
I'm probably the only person who noticed/cared about this minor subplot, but basically there's a mother and a daughter in Aoyama-Itchome and they have a dog at the beginning of the game, Kotaro, he eventually gets sick and dies, then Maruki does his thing to give the little girl false hope, and then the dog dies again, for real this time. Their final bit of story concludes on 3/19.
Honestly, this little subplot is the best piece of writing in this behemoth of a game.
I noticed it as well. I keep track of npc since the stalker girl becoming the stalked in Persona 3. Quite funny.
that and girl-stalker in school are my 2 favorite background stories
>third semester is the best part of the game
>10 hours long and locked behind 90 hours of content
sad
>third semester
Eh, it starts pretty cool by throwing some Evangelion tier weird shit at you, but then immediately undoes it and it's just another palace and your party is already maxed out at that point, so you one shot everything all the way to the true final boss. And the ending itself has 0 twists, everything is played straight.
Basically, don't hype it up too much, treat it as a DLC (which it was) and you won't be let down too much.
The start was super cool yeah, I was hyped. But then it turned into "go visit on friend a day to convince them to help this guy who wants to end reality. Also, feel free to sleep in until the afternoon, you lazy fricking c**t, just ignore the stakes."
>"go visit on friend a day to convince them to help this guy who wants to end reality. Also, feel free to sleep in until the afternoon, you lazy fricking c**t, just ignore the stakes."
That's just their solution to stretching one palace arc to 3 months lmao, by simply showing you one 1 cutscene per day and disabling all other activities. I would've preferred a time skip to be honest, like what they did with most of February.
At the very least, let me visit two people a day, woould have halved the boring parts and actually made the entire storyline enjoyable. Sure it would have been shorter but it would have been more memorable.
Not gonna lie, bros. The Phansite poll and comments are probably the absolute best superfluous feature I've ever seen.
They must have lurked a decent amount of forums and blog sites to get the internet slang like those. It unironically felt like I've been playing with all of you this whole time. Just shitposts, psyopgays, moralgays, shills, and getting banned by mods for off-topic posting. It's funny every time I pause to read them.
>can only browse the shady website on the laptop
>can't go on the phan site and call people Black folk
Missed opportunity
just go back to playing your garbage multiplayer if you're tired of it moron
Just finished the game a few hours ago. Did everything (all confidants maxed out, all achievements) on a semi-blind playthrough. Didn't follow a guide but made liberal use of wikis to look up the benefits of various activities etc to help me plan better. Took me 170 hours total. Am I a slowpoke or is this the longest singleplayer game ever made?
Note that I did listen to voices in full, always (just an OCD thing, can't control it, gonna feel like I'm missing out if I start skipping voices). Never left the game idling though. Also, the save file time is 149 hours for some reason, maybe due to savescumming or something.
because it's 95% padding
Because there's a lot of text.
shouldn't it really be de-rapes
I played Caligula Effect 2 a few months before P5R finally came out on PC, and what do you know, the Kasumi twist is blatantly the same thing as that one character's in CE2. I guess CE2's writers plagiarized it? Man, that's pretty low, they're former Atlus employees, why would they burn their bridges like that.
Can’t tell how serious you are, but Satomi Tadashi is this game’s only link to Atlus, and he wasn’t even as involved in the second one. Also, P5R’s new arc is very similar to the first Caligula. And the bridge between Atlus and Furyu was already burned years ago.
I'm serious, it just felt like blatant copycatting to me, even their hair color is the same. Unless it's a super common anime trope? I don't really watch anime these days, so idea.
I think it was a clear response to Atlus taking so much inspiration from Caligula 1. Furyu was pissed at Atlus for sending the original Vita release out to die in the west, and has since cut ties. And then the plot of P5R is clearly similar to Caligula, the game they killed by releasing it as a digital only title with basically no marketing, right around the time Persona 5 was set to launch.
Interesting, had no idea there was a rivalry between them. But then again Furyu is so tiny, it's more like one side bullying I guess.
It’s not a super open rivalry, but it’s there. Recently they put out a game called Monark, and made sure everyone knew that ex-SMT devs worked on it. But looking further into the game it doesn’t seem like they had much to do with it. The director, Fuyuki Hayashi, was the main creative force behind it. And the game has more in common with his previous work Crystar than any Megaten game.
the yaldabaoth twist in P5 was stolen from P2 so it's give and take
The "evil god was secretly behind everything" trope is in every Persona game though? At least 3 through 5, haven't played 2 yet (will hopefully get around to it this year).
it's in both of the 2 games, don't know about 1
specifically what they do in the Royal part of story is lifted from p2
Sort of? I mean, not really. I can see the influence but to call it "lifted" is dishonest
it's more that "igor/phil and evil god made a wager to determine what humanity wants and then evil god sealed igor/phil away and then gave a mentally ill teenager reality warping powers and let humanity frick itself"
>JRPG
>WHY IS THIS SO LONG
Core Damaged moron.
I don't think I'm one of those people that goes insane if a game is longerthan 20 hours, but when I got the regular ending at 110 hours or so I was like damn, the game is good and all, but I'm also kind of happy when this shit is over now, but then it just drags on and on with cutscenes and goodbyes
I thought Kasumi was supposed to be better than Marie, but it's the same shit all over again.
mandatory school festival with her is pretty annoying
and people say that makoto is forced onto you, which is absurd when compared to sumi
I'd probably lump Marie and Kasumi together if Maruki didn't exist.
No, even Marie wasn't shoved in your face as hard as Kasumi is.
Man, I know people like to say that the game likes to push Makoto, but holy fricking shit, I've been playing through Strikers and I actively can't stand how much screen time they give her. It's genuinely obnoxious. I didn't even hate her in P5 or Royal, but it truly feels like they're trying to push her on you in Strikers and it actively kills my enjoyment.
Holy shit I just installed Strikers and you hyped me the frick up, can't wait to play the shit out of it tomorrow, Makoto best girl.
i dunno about that
i can understand people b***hing about makoto and futaba overtaking the plot in the main game
but in strikers it feels like everyone got their fair share of screentime thanks to dedicated jails
why not?
I won't say Makoto felt forced, but it felt like I speed ran her Confidant without even trying.
Like when I went to Hawaii, I was able to go on the date with her and I felt surprised since I didn't think I'd been spending that much time with her. I even managed to finish her confidant right before Sae's boss fight almost instantly.
Her slapping the piss out of her free was funny.
