No, it's because of the Nanaya blood going berserk at the sight of a white woman. He falls in love with Arc partly because of Roa's influence.

It's still one of the most popular LNs of all time.
Botching the anime really fricked them over with normies though. Just like Higurashi vs Umineko.

It's been about 15 years but from what I remember:
      >LN by creators of fate about an average guy (who has a secret assassin ability allowing him to kill anything even gods in a single hit) is walking up the street one day and randomly kills a girl (who is secretly an ancient vampire lord). They become friends and he bangs her and they go on some adventures revolving around fighting vampires in the city to prevent them from murdering people. Like Fate it has a bunch of routes and bad endings.
      >There are also some twin maids (a sweet one and a cold one (the sweet one is of course the crazier one)) with a fricked up backstory and they do the ole switcheroo a few times to frick with you.
      >There is some bro-con sister (or was she a half-sister?) and there is also some nun vampire hunter girl, sort of like that dude from Helsing with the knives (but nobody gives a shit since she's worst girl).
      >There was also a classmate girl who gets turned into a vampire and asks you to join her (but you can't because her route was cut so you just die instead)

Tsukihime from your run down seems very individual driven and disjointed as a story compared to fate.

You also forgot the part where Shiki's dad was based and had personal dicky he cum dumped into every day until the day he died.

A lot of the routes aren't distinct enough.
Ciel's route is just Arc' backwash.
As are a lot of the Far Side routes. Remember that Kohaku originally wasn't going to get one which is why she only has one ending.
This is why Nasu changed up Ciel's route so much in the remake.

It doesn't have much room for explosive expansion. Fate's premise is actually very easy to use for whatever purpose you need. All you need are at least seven Servants and some manner of wish granter. You can use that premise for anything. It started off as a VN, then a fighting game, then JRPGs, musous and a gacha game. It's extremely versatile.

Tsukihime, at its core, is a bit too limited. For starters, it's too focused on its protagonist, Shiki. You'd think that it was primarily about vampires, but in reality Dead Apostles are only really important in two of the five original routes. On top of that, there's only one Arcueid, seven (eight) members of the Burial Agency and twenty-seven Dead Apostle Ancestors. It's not entirely inflexible, but there's just not as much you can really do with it.

i've always been of the opinion ciel's route is good, this hasn't changed in the remake. but the best part about it is the roa stuff(i think some people forgot the iconic THIS CHAIR scene is in this route), and additionally for the remake noel stuff. also i agree her remake design is whack. i've accepted the other ones but ciel's new look just doesn't sit right for me. also no sex scenes in the remake really hurts ciel because her's is probably the funniest one in the original.

The harem route is really awful in the remake. It's no longer harem and the bossfight is hours long, even speedreading. Combine that with the Noel fight just a little bit earlier. Awful experience for me. At least the flashbacks were fleshed out.

she's one of the better things, i think. but her fight as a vampire was probably one of the most awkwardly inserted things, imo. like, within its own bubble, it's a good tragic end to her character but with the rest of the story it just feels like "ok, noel has to leave the plot now." like it's just the weird awkward thing that happens in-between that whole drama shiki and ciel have near the end.

also i'd like to say i love she seems kind of plain visually and it seems to be very intentional because she's really just some side NPC character who got fricked over by the fact she survived that massacre and got brought into a world she had no business being a part of. also i think her vampire form looks fricking stupid but because of my previous statement, i have a suspicion it's supposed to look stupid.

i had a dream where i started a relationship with her but it was still the ciel route so she still turned into a vampire and i had to sit there while ciel killed her, and then while she and shiki went off to do goofy anime romance shit, i just kind of fumbled around in noel's dust before waking up.

Fate is better, has a better concept, had better designs and a bunch of different characters for different tastes, bigger scale/more dramatic, better kino, and things only got worse and worse as TM made more and more stuff for Fate but couldn't even given Tsuki it's damn Remake honestly I think I would've preferred the 2020s remake we got to whatever we would've gotten with a 2000/2010s remake

The Remake artstyle and scenario were already decided back in 2013, but Nasu got sidetracked hard by FGO and started resting on his laurels. Remake still takes place in 2014 since that's when it was originally scheduled to come out.

I don't find Arc's design that cute but her expressions and poses fricking kill me. She looks cute in the original, remake, manga, and Melty (in different ways) but doesn't look cute to me in new Melty and I blame it on the lack of good expressions and poses. Only that one goofy winpose is kinda cute (and even then only ironically)

I kinda miss the "rich 80s WASP girl with sweater puppies" aesthetic of her original design. I know Nasu and Takeuchi wanted to modernize her look along with the setting but it's hard to feel like something wasn't lost in the process.

I read it for the first time like a month ago after somehow evading spoilers for a decade. I'm still taking my time with Kagetsu Tohya, but it was really great besides Ciel's route.
Hisui's route surprised me because I've never heard anyone even mention it (or Hisui herself honestly) even in passing, but it was sheer kino (especially the endings). I looked it up afterwards and realized that most people did like it, so it was just a pleasant surprise of a route I wasn't initially expecting a lot from.

The weirdest thing for me is that interview where Nasu and Takeuchi say that they gave Ciel a huge ass to contrast with Arc's massive bosom, in a genre where for 99 percent of the game you're never ever going to see characters from the waist down, much less from behind. That is completely besides the issue of Takeuchi's inability to draw either big boobs or a thick ass.

No. Visual Novels are basically dead in Asia, barely floating around and never becoming the smash hits like they were in the past.

Unless you want to claim gacha games and phone games are Visual Novels (They use the format).,

Even disregarding all other measures, a good indicator of a genres popularity is the amount of merch filling stores of any particular series/franchise - of which there are a great deal of actual VNs and pseudo-VNs (such as those you mentioned) or extensions of their particular franchises that flood stores. I cannot & wouldn't speak for all of Asia, but I've spent a fair amount of time in Japan to see it - that's more than enough for me to form an opinion of whether a genre is "dead" or otherwise.

I've always liked Ciel. She has cool powers, cool nun dress, cool tragic backstory, and cool personality. Her route also has some good moments, like being possessed by Roa and having to fight against the heroine who was by your side in the previous route, and fighting against Ciel until she can't bring herself to finish you. It was cool.
However, after remake came out, I suddenly realized that I absolutely hate Arc, which wasn't the case in the original Tsukihime. Must be the voice acting colouring her presence in the story.
Arc comes off as extremely obnoxious. When Shiki just laughed along with her after she nearly killed him multiple times and did horrifically kill Ciel multiple times, I was in complete disbelief.

Apparently, Ciel's a member of the Burial Agency in Fate as well, but I can't help but question the circumstances behind that. She never would have been possessed by Roa in that world, meaning she wouldn't have access to his wealth of magical knowledge. Plus since Idea Bloods presumably don't exist in Fate, she'd have none of her trump cards either. She'd be objectively and significantly inferior to Tsukihime Ciel in every single way.

The VN is literally just worse. Fate is much better told story, where each route expands upon the previous one and manages to play with your expectations about what you have learned and expect to happen. Tsukihime follows a more normal structure. In terms of story, there isn't that dramatic of a difference between Ciel's route and Arc's route. Additionally, the farside route's are basically completely disconnected from the near side routes. And again, the difference in the far side routes feels more about which girl you date, rather than really trying to tell a different story between them.
