Why is Xbox failing?

>More powerful console
>Offers a cheap and affordable option
>Has Game Pass
>Bought dozens of studios and is attempting to buy the largest publisher

    Couple of reasons
    >Most people who bought a PS4 last generation don't want to scrap their existing library and start from scratch on Xbox
    >Lackluster output in 2022, fricking up any good momentum from 2021
The basic issue is that there aren't many must-play games on Xbox, even if it's a nice system to have. It's not bad but there just really isn't a reason for people in the Playstation ecosystem to switch instead of waiting for a PS5. This is something Phil was absolutely correct about, that short of a major forcing function, you can't really get Playstation users (which was nearly fricking every console gamer last gen) to switch their primary platform for all games to Xbox.
Starfield may get people to pick up an Xbox but it won't matter that much unless people buy most of their third parties on Xbox. Unlike Nintendo, Xbox does put out mid-budget must-play exclusives at the frequency needed to be a major source of revenue

Game Pass might save you money on buying Forza and maybe some indie games
But most AAA games aren't on Game Pass. The yearly sportsball releases, Need For Speed, Assassin's Creed, Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, Grand Theft Auto, Elden Ring, Red Dead Redemption and many many other franchises simply aren't there.
So unless I'm interested in subscribing for a month or two whenever a new Forza Horizon comes out there's surprisingly little value in Game Pass. MS simply has awful output levels at the moment, to make it worth subscribing they'd need to release something at least every few months, not every two years.

That was the original plan, according to phil. A decent first party game every 3 months. The issue is Microsoft never figured out how to properly run and optimize the dev-cycle of these studios
      So they're still fricked

    Shitty lunch.
You in USA will not realize how shitty it was.

For example, if I bought PS5 in middle east, and ps5 game. I can easily play it.
But Xbox will refused to load the game unless I have USA ip.
And so people will rather to pay double for something they can used instead xbox they can only lools at.
By the time they fix it, it was too late.

Why is Xbox so dead in Europe and Japan, damn

      Anonymous

It was never that big there.
In Europe, it's because Playstation has always been the dominant platform
In Japan, it's because it's a foreign console.
This is in spite of the 360 having some of the better JApanese exclusives from the 7th generation, Nips still preferred the PS3 to it, despite it costing $200 more

No brand identity. I can't name a single Xbox-exclusive and I don't even know what their current console is called. Think about how bad that is. They used to have an iconic as frick name: Xbox 360, everyone knew that name. Now what is their current-gen system called? The image reminds me it's Xbox Series S or Series X but I don't know or care about the difference and I sure as hell didn't remember it without looking at the image. Meanwhile everyone can remember "Switch" or "PlayStation 5".

        >In Japan, it's because it's a foreign console.
With the right marketing, foreign can still be huge in Japan. They're big westaboos. I mean they eat fricking KFC on Christmas to the point you actually need to reserve it in advance to have any hopes of picking up a bucket of fried chicken on December 25th. All because of marketing.

Which diversity hire came up with the name Xbox SERIES X/S. It's so moronic.
Xbox one should've been Xbox 720, but if you went with Xbox One, then just go with Xbox Two then next. Fricking moronic Black folk.

          Yes and no
Yes, they like experiencing western things from time to time, like their fascination with french and italian food and american burgers
But buying food has no buy-in cost, whereas a console is going to set you back $300-500 just for the opportunity to play the games (most of which are also available on playstation).
The issue is that in a world where Playstation has global presence and has a library supplied by global publishers, why limit yourself to just Western games by buying an Xbox?

      A lack of support.
Check out this list, like half of Europe isn't supported by Xbox. This means you can't officially buy the consoles or games, and in certain cases can't even turn on the fricking thing even if you owned one.
Xbox has never given a shit outside of its core markets. This effectively gives Sony a monopoly in these countries, which yes they are mostly small countries but there are many of them so it adds up.

It's dead in Japan because it has no Japanese games. It's dead in Europe because Europeans don't trust Microsoft.

It's not an essential console for what it's doing because you can also do it on PC. And people won't touch it in Japan.
But the PS5 is selling on brand only too. It's a disgusting device no matter how you look at it, it wouldn't sell otherwise.

dozens of studios and is attempting to buy the largest publisher
how many of those studios make good games though? It seems like microsoft continually buys studios that either just made a good game as a fluke or studios that used to make good games but have long been on the downtrend.

Literally all of their first party titles are dogshit and Starfield is probably gonna continue this trend. That'll probably be the final nail in the coffin for xbox. With the amount of blunders they've published this year alone, it almost feels intentional. It's like Microsoft wants to get rid of Xbox old Yeller style.

Bungling iconic franchises, banking on the wrong dev teams to make new IPs or carry the torch, and projects are taking longer than they likely should have
    >announce Hellblade 2 end of 2019 at Game Awards
    >God of War Ragnarok is announced late 2020, releases late 2022
    >still no Hellblade 2 in sight, probably Q1 2024
