This is why. Make the game approachable, Blizzard. Please. People want to play your game and give you money, but you won't let them because of your stubbornness.

People have developed and imaginary "standard" for how they need to approach and experience everything.

How fricking self-important are you to think you need addons when you first start WoW? Do you read guides to games before you even play them? That's a massive YOU problem. No different from the idiots who complain something isn't the way they want it. How about you sit there and experience the activity you fricking chode. You letting your friend tell you how to play the game, idiot? Did you actually listen to the Steam reviews, instead of playing the game yourself and refunding?

WoW is incredibly easy and has tons of forgiveness and the curve is so shallow. It takes forever to get to the complicated stuff this "beginner" is complaining about.

I dropped Dwarf Fortress, until a few years later when I got over this. I chilled out a bit, and finally got to learn how to play this game, because I just watched a 40 hour guide and took it 1 step at a time. I restarted a lot.
I get extremely irritated by people dying in HC WoW and complaining "they didn't know that mechanic" or "how was I supposed to know an enemy was patrolling". Because they rush to the finish line and think they can win. WoW is a massive game. Take your time. You definitely should not EXPECT to be EXPERIENCED and KNOWLEDGABLE enough to RAID or get to 60 WITHOUT DYING A SINGLE TIME. Fricking entitled gamers.

These idiots actually mean to complain "Being and elite MLG gamer running endgame content needs to be casualized and simplified so I can experience it without actually doing anything and it is served to me on day 1". How about you play the fricking game?

If you can make it all the way to max level, without interacting with any players or asking anyone "where did you get that cool armor?", then you probably should play other games. Child-arena-head-clickers and wallet-mcswipies are for you.

We're talking about Dragonflight here, not Classic. Even back in the day as an actual 13 year old I wasn't ogling max level players in Stormwind until around 15 hours of played time at around level 20. In Dragonflight 15 hours of haphazard played time will get you to level 60 and ready to head off to the Dragon Isles for 60-70 questing.

You can easily get to level 70 without having ever talked to another player. The game does nothing to encourage you to talk to others and everything to funnel you along to the end.

      Anonymous

What are you talking about? Getting to 70 in Dragonflight and starting endgame takes no time at all. Maybe 40, 50 hours if you're an absolute beginner. You get a level just about every time you do a dungeon and they can be cleared in 10-20 minutes by just about any group. And everyone will tell you to spam dungeons because that's the fastest and best way to level.
You probably don't need all that shit the post mentioned to start gear grinding and doing LFR, but if you want to do anything approaching difficult content, you'll want them, and people will expect you to have a good understanding of the game.

      >WoW is a massive game. Take your time.
... Have you played retail recently? It's a not a massive game at all. The leveling process makes it *seem* like there's a lot of content, but it funnels you towards the latest content island and raid, and you'll soon realize that everything else is deprecated, obsolete, and redundant.
Sure, it's "massive" in the regard that there's a lot of things that have been added over the years, but almost none of it is worth your time unless you're really into collecting cosmetics.

Hitting max level doesn't teach you about Mythic +, Raiding, or PVP. What the frick are you talking about?

Oh, why are you playing Dragonflight? That's just ignorant. Like, willingly playing Overwatch is no different. Diablo 4 isn't great either. Play Classic. I lean HC. I haven't tried SoD. Wrath was fun back in the day, but HC is far more fun as an experienced player. I don't want to sink the time in to play Wrath, even though I know I enjoy the endgame content.

Again, this game takes a long time to level and it is genuinely social in Classic. Why are you playing Dragonflight? Modern Blizzard games are genuinely bad. There is no "lack of a tutorial". People know how to play the game, and it's bad. It's terrible.

Watch this video of a Runescape player trying all versions of modern WoW:

The screenshotted post in the OP is about Dragonflight, genius.
Yes, Classic is a completely different game, not hard at all, has no mod requirements and genuinely feels pretty big and social because its progression system hasn't been completely gutted by decades of updates pushing players through to the end as fast as possible.

And yes, that's a great video and J1mmy puts out great content even if you're not into OSRS.

Retail has its issues, but I think there is a solid foundation that Blizzard could build from and make something good. Plunderstorm shows us that if you stop thinking of the game as a never changing behemoth with 20 years of history you can actually have simple fun with it.

            Anonymous

genuinely I think all the game needs is a better scaling system and for the game to force some kind of linearity on its content so you can't just skip to the end. copy FFXIV and give players incentive to run old content daily. copy OSRS and make questlines/dungeons have various requirements. bring back attunements. introduce something like Slayer or FFXIV's Hunts to give zones a purpose once you're done leveling and questing in them.

there's so much that could be done with the game and it feels like they design all of it to be played through once and tossed away so you can get back to running maze+

              Anonymous

We'll see what Blizzard is going to change about the game. It's the reason I'm more excited for The War Within's patches than I am for the expansion itself because I know that's when Blizzard is going to implement big changes.

You are fricking moronic and it's clear you've never actually played the game. WoW devs have even admitted they design boss encounters around mods like DBM now. Show me one world class guild not running mods of any kind. If you want to see content beyond LFR raiding you absolutely need to have mods installed or nobody will ever invite you to groups. This is where the elitism comes from. People can't fathom doing hard content without having an addon do all the work for you and refuse to let anyone play with them otherwise.
