It's called a market correction. It's what happens when a bubble forms due to something like COVID and everyone suddenly realizes that a short term period of explosive growth is not feasible or sustainable.

Over extension. They thought the covid bonanza would be eternal. So they over hired. Now add to the mix diversity hires, people with no talent and conformists, and a mixture of those three.

I'm a drop out, own a house, 3 oled tv's, atmos setup, 3.5k pc, 1k monitor, and all this with a kid and I work a factory job.
If you couldnt make ends meet the last decade, you fricked up. Everybody who knows a thing or two knew a correction was in order. But everybody now knows a "crash" would happen, so do companies and countries, so we bounced out of them really fricking fast.

    >Why the frick is the industry dying?
Nintendo Switch hardware and software sales outperform its predecessor and the Wii. The PS5 performance is normal. The Xbox Series consoles are selling worse than the Xbox One which continues a downward spiral of poor game output and poorer game console sales. Xbox hasn't had one GOTY in 10 years and counting.

But like the game industry is collapsing because Xbox de-valued their brand with PC ports and their games appearing on console competitors. Yeah, okay?

This is just me projecting my absolute disdain for developers onto the situation but there is nothing i hate more than waiting.

If it was up to me i would axe every single company that takes more than 5 years to make a game, any game really. I'd love to cut that down to 3 years but i know games have gotten real big so 5 seems reasonable.

I want a game that is announced today to come out in 12 or 18 months max. Be fully done, content complete, patched and polished to a fricking mirror shine.

But developers can't deliver that for 2 reasons. One is that they love to iterate and tinker and play in their fricking creative playground all day and two is that the producers are too incompetent to yank their fricking chain and cuff them to the desk to make sure they are doing their job EFFICIENTLY.

The industry just keeps making bad games while charging more and more and adding more microtransactions and subscriptions. Why wouldn't it fail? It's a nonsensical clown show, the AAA industry has been in a quality crisis for years and years at this point, you'd think they'd take a step back, evaluate their problems and then start releasing higher quality products but instead they double down, quality continues dropping but they increase prices instead? What?

Microsoft spent a large amount of money to buy Activision-Blizzard for Xbox. That means Microsoft is going to be more hands on in managing Xbox. Which means Phil gets overruled by his higher ups rather than having his own small corporate fiefdom.

What I wonder is if Phil knew this would happen and OKed the deal to buy Activision-Blizzard anyway, or if he did not and now he is seeing the consequences of his own actions. Or if MS higher ups forced all this upon him an he never had a choice even in the buy out.
