Why the FRICK do I need to use more than one type of dice to play a game? Don't even get me started on custom dices.

For fun. You should try it.

If this is an RPG you literally just need a handful of fricking dice, paper and a fricking pen. There are literally P&PRPG groups in fricking 3rd world countries. You are whinging about something that literal Black person can cope with.

Why not just stick to 2 or 3 D6s or D100. Why a system has 8 different tests rolled with 8 different dice?

You might just not like fun. Sometimes people are born moronic like that.

Because one gorillion years ago, Gary and pals had an apartment near a hobby shop with a bunch of novelty dice with wacky numbers of sides like "anything other than six"
        Obligatory "play a different game"

Sometimes you like to be amuse by d4 skittering over table. And otherwise you like nostalgia of normal cube being diced. Or drama of the big circles. It's a game relax

I have multiples of the two types on the right. The D12 never gets enough love, I'm glad I can use it for small stuff too.

Never understood the urge to use all of the dice, whether in terms of novelty nor quantity.

      Pyramid shaped dice are shit.

Absolute worst die. Frick pyramid d4, all my homies hate pyramid d4.

It could have been better, but it was worse.

      I might give 2 and 4 a roll.

You know there are systems that just require regular d6s and nothing else right anon? You don't have to play games that require a full set of polyhedrons. You do play games right anon?

I know, that's why I'm perplexed by other systems that use all the dice for no apparent reason. I'm also asking, because maybe someone can explain this.

A few systems do something clever-ish with them. A lot of niche wargames use them for troop quality against a fixed target number.
I genuinely don't mind them if the core mechanic is actually trying to leverage them somehow.
Their use in D&Clonest for literally no purpose but slight damage variations is pathetic.

I agree, that's why my games all only use a single d12

You don't, many games from the very beginning of the hobby, from Tunnels & Trolls to Traveller use a single dice type, typcally d6 because they were common. In the early days dice were very hard to find and d10's didn't even exist, we had special d20's numbered twice. Holmes then published with chits instead of dice for those even more desperate. But funny-shaped dice became a trademark of the hobby, something we all got used to and some fell in love with, back when it was actually played at tables with actual friends and not on youtube videos with paid jackasses and obnoxious woketards.
