Why was he so underrated?
People talk about X but in comparison to Squall, Cloud, and fuck even Zidane, nobody really talks about Tidus himself.
MUH emet selch boohoo. Fuck that noise. Daddy issues and laughing out anxiety is my jam.

cool design
he was fucking annoying and his getup is retarded
I don't get this meme. Tidus was pretty accurate for someone who gets swiped into completely new world with new traditions and culture. His daddy issues were justified and he could connect with Yuna as he also used to be a "superstar". People making memes about the laugh scene do not understand the point at all. Yuna is going on her journey knowing she will die, that's why the journey for her must be full of laughter, TIdus just found out his dad is fucking sin and that he's probably never going back to his world. They forced it out to feel better. That's all it was.
Fixed
he was so unlikable and cringy that nobody even wants to fuck him.
his legacy is the laughing meme.
HAWHAWHAWHAW! HAWHAWHAWHAW!
>cucked by his dad
Come on Barry. I hate ffxiv and ffxvi as much as you do.
People were actually filtered by the laugh. Retards point at it as cringe and lame when that was literally the entire point
>tfw 8th grade me thought he was a bad ass
The amount of people filtered by the laughing scene due to lack of intelligence or overinflated ego is just embarrassing.
the real answer is because he was an actual chad among losers, in other FF you're a loser among chads
Cloud and Squall were chads. Well Sigmas I guess.
SIGMAAAAAAAAAA, YOU'LL PAY FOR WHAT YOU'VE DONE.
>a giant sphere of floating water? BULLSHIT
>which appears in a matter of seconds from seemingly nowhere? BULLSHIT
>in which athletes compete underwater, holding their breath for at least five minutes at a time without once coming up for air? BULLSHIT
classic spoony never gets old
No standout positives, no standout negatives either. Just normal hero's journey that ends with his death. No wonder he's not as popular as other 'better' or even 'worse' protags.
>jav voice cracking during the fight with jecht
Fucking amazing.
i think tidus' actions are very understandable
unlike a lot of the prior antagonists, he actually attained the fame he wanted before the game began, so to have it stripped was understandably devastating
>oh that's that weird guy who tells everyone he's from zanarkand, lol
I didn't care much for his character but I liked his idle animation, it fit his sport athlete/quick attacker theme.
>his part of the sphere grid is entirely speed, phys attack and Haste/Slow magic
The game was unironically built around Tidus from a gameplay perspective. If you ever decide to max out the Sphere Grid then you may as well get every stat but MAG to max since magic falls off pretty early and you're better off using your MP for Quick Hit or Quick Item.
i remember is everyone else in the game being a bitch to him, that laugh scene set everyone opinion about him i thought he was alright
Not really. I think this is one of the only cast where people were pretty easygoing with each other. I kinda wish Rikku and Tidus got along more together. Felt like there was a bit of cut content before you get seperated in the prologue.
I think it's because he's the least archetypal modern FF protag and because FFX has a very substantial supporting cast.
FF7 - Cloud is the perfect 90s cool badass hero for teenage boys. His issues are tacked on at the end and are "cool-tragic" hero issues. Like Hon Solo opening up to a chick about losing his father as a kid. Every FF7 fag wanted to be Cloud when they were kids. Few party members in 7 really matter.
FF8 - Squall was Cloud post Evangelion. Angsty teenage boys were everywhere in Japanese media. Very polarizing, so either you love him or you hate him and so people talk about him. Few party members in 8 really matter.
FF9 - Zidane is also not discussed a lot and 9 wasn't as popular as the others. Square wasn't focused on telling a character driven narrative where the protag's psyche is deeply examined. That stuff was present (Vivi/Steiner) but the game was more of a plot a driven fun adventure.
FFX - Titus
1) Every character in the party has a purpose and a complete character arc. This takes some of the focus away from Titus.
2) Titus isn't extreme in anything. He isn't the self-insert hero fighter like Cloud, he isn't the angsty squad leader like Squall, he isn't the energetic monkey boy Zidane. He is a pro-athlete but that doesn't mean shit in Spira (to his frustration). He's good looking but suffers from a broken home and thus lacks the kind of confidence you'd expect from someone like him.
3) Yuna is pretty important to the plot and is ultimately the one who defeats the "great evil thing" in her game. Her phrase, "this is my story too" feels like a rebuke to former FF games.
TLDR: Titus is the most human protag. He has fewer anime-tropes that make him stand out. He has doubts but manages it. He has personal issues, but doesn't make it a big deal and finds way to deal. He's willing to help but really just want to go home to Zanarkand. He's a teen, he acts like it and this may turn ppl off.
Tidus is the best protag in modern FF.
It meant shit. It's just the game wasn't focused on blitzball
I don't think I agree. What I mean is that Titus being "the star player of the Zanarkand Abes" does not matter in Spira because Zanarkand doesn't exist. He laments this in the game a few times and it even gets him into trouble since people think he's crazy. The opening scene where he's surrounded by fans is later contrasted with one where Yuna is similarly surrounded by fans and cameras as they walk around Luca.
He isn't famous in Spira, but Yuna and Jecht are. So, considering OPs question "why was he so underrated", I think this is a reason.
He could make a blitzball career.
Tidus is my favorite if we are talking mainline games but if we include side games then it's gotta be be Ramzanfor me
He barely does shit.
Awful VA
Idk I played the game with Japanese dub
dq6 did it better
fuck you I liked it
My first FF game. Has a special place in my heart even though I was shit at it. I would say it was probably my first real RPG.
best battle system in the series
People hate characters that aren’t always cool and likable 24/7. He complains and shows emotions about his situation, and acts awkward around his teammates. He isn’t a stoic hero.
Tidus got outshone by the party members in X. But in all fairness, the X cast was the best FF cast of all time.
