I'm surprised that there isn't an expanded version of SM64 vanilla in general the closest I can think of is the Junuary Project and the green comet mod but those are just alterations of the base game.

Look at the shape of the star constellation. It kinda is formed like the ship of Rosalina. It is possible that this was a teaser for Super Mario Galaxy. Because the scrapped stage was supposed to be in space.
