For the first proper Switch game, they could've done a whole lot better.
    >Human animations recycled from Sun & Moon
    >Shitty story where you don't even do anything until the last act of the game
    >Everything about the Wild Area
    >Incredibly easy battles that make XY blush
    >Charizard shilling at Venusaur and Blastoise's expense yet again (The latter two didn't have gigantamax forms at launch. Charizard did.)
    >Models ripped from the 3DS games when they lied and said they were changed
    >Supposed high quality animations when they're either the same or worse than the 3DS games
    >Introduced paid DLC to the franchise, meaning if you want the optimal experience for your adventure, you have to spend an extra 30 dollars to get postgame stuff you would've gotten in older games
    >Made Dexit mainstream. Why the frick can a 3DS game handle all (at the time) 807 Pokémon, but a Switch game can't handle all (at the time) 898 Pokémon despite being on much more powerful hardware?

The only 1st version games that had good post game content were GS and DP. The rest were much more barren than the DLC and if you do include the 3rd versions then you’d have to consciously skip the first versions and then wait over a year to pay full price for the enhanced version to not get scammed. I’d rather have DLC than have to pay 60$ for Ultra SwSh.

      Scavio isn't much better off.
Also, how would including more Pokémon cause a delay? The engine is identical, and they reused tons of the assets. It's a copy and paste, ignoring the obvious need to run their proprietary file converter which is definitely automated.

Yeah, but the new Pokémon models have looked alright since Gen 7. That's nothing new.

Scarlet and Violet look 10x better than Sword and Shield. You may not like the artstyle they went with for the characters and what not but in terms of detail and fidelity it's undeniably much higher.
        >Also, how would including more Pokémon cause a delay? The engine is identical, and they reused tons of the assets. It's a copy and paste, ignoring the obvious need to run their proprietary file converter which is definitely automated.
Implementing the models into a new game is in fact more work than just converting a file type, not to mention all the non-model related issues in adding new Pokemon. I'm not saying it couldn't be done but it is still a noticeable amount of extra work that could be better spent on improving other areas of the game. I mean, do you think they just cut Pokemon for literally no reason?

Yeah, but the new Pokémon models have looked alright since Gen 7. That's nothing new.
It should be stressed Gamefreak doesn't make those models, TCP makes them.

Pokemon in gen 9 are very noticeably improved over gen 6/7 in terms of their models, textures, even animations.
        >It should be stressed Gamefreak doesn't make those models, TCP makes them.
GF is still responsible for actually implementing the models in the game which again, is not as simple as copy and pasting a file. That's how you end up with "Mario in Unreal Engine" sort of trash. They all have to be adapted to fit the game, making sure they look good with the lighting and shadows, that their animations are properly implemented, that the camera highlights them well, that they look good when terastalized, etc. And this is all just talking about making sure they look good in a battle scene, there's also camp and walking with them or seeing them in the wild or even in cutscenes for some Pokemon.

          >Scarlet and Violet look 10x better than Sword and Shield
Someone please post the landscapes with Mario from 64 pasted on top. I don't have the images on me but they illustrate my point of the failures.
Even ignoring that for a second, 2D sandwiches is a regression from the curry.
          >Implementing the models into a new game is in fact more work than just converting a file type,
Anon, the returning Pokémon almost all have the same vertices as Gen 7. A few exceptions exist. Pikachu had a mouth now.
          >not to mention all the non-model related issues in adding new Pokemon.
Like what? The reused animations which share the same exact format as the previous game? (Burden of proof is on you, it'd be nice to be proven wrong.)
          >Pokemon in gen 9 are very noticeably improved over gen 6/7 in terms of their models, textures, even animations.
I have not seen the animations change at all. Maybe I'm blind though. If you can show what you mean, I'll back down on that.
As for the textures, I cannot deny that they are of higher fidelity. However, given how they talked about these models in Gen 6 and 7, it's likely they had all of the textures on standby already(don't forget: They specifically advertised those models as "futureproofed.")
I'm not against reusing assets or using stockpiled textures, mind you, but I am heavily against poor communication, especially when they never issued a correction, and left their home nation in the dark over it. I also am against people making excuses for it, like trying to justify it as "oh but they improved in the next game" when spinoffs on a much lower budget still look way better(I get the scope issue but this is ridiculous,) and the improvement wasn't particularly enough to be noticeable in the first place.

They were the first dexcut games so they tanked the backlash. It's the same way that XY gets hate for being the first 3D games. Both were inevitable developments, the largest video game franchise on Earth isn't going to stay 2D forever nor can it keep including a thousand+ different Pokemon in every game forever,

Sword and Shield definitely have legitimate issues too but the vast majority of the hate was dexcut related. In an alternate reality where SM or SV were the first dexcut games most people would agree SS were decent, instead they're a permanent hate target because autists can't get over not being able to transfer their favourite shitmon.

Because they announced the dexcut as a way to put more care into the mons that are actually in the game but the model meshes were the exact same as the 3DS ones bar a few texture upgrades and we didn't start seeing actual improvements until PLA. The only Pokemon that ever had a new model after XY was Glameow iirc.
Trying to join public raids was an awful experience (and still is even in SV) and when you could join one it took forever because you have to sit through 5-6 animations per turn.

dexcut obviously was a big deal.
for me the biggest thing is the world & map design. I don't just play Pokemon to battle, it also has to be fun to traverse the world. I liked getting immersed into the regions, exploring sprawling routes, dungeon crawling etc. Imo map design has been going downhill since Gen 5 or 6, but Galar was just abysmal in that regard. the routes were a joke, the wild area wasn't fleshed out enough to make up for it, the towns were small and boring, there's no dungeons...there's just nothing in the world that gets me excited to explore. I think that's the biggest aspect that Pokemon lacks for me in the Switch era. Sometime around X/Y or S/M the world started to feel like just a theme park where you are corralled from point A to B for the next cutscene instead of feeling like you were on an adventure in a big world. Swsh is the epitome of that to me

Blame Mt. Coronet being an HM-demanding shithole on top of DP's horrific performance. It was unironically bad enough that it got Little Kenji to cry to mommy and daddy to send letters to Nintendo and GameFreak about how awful of a location it is, and ever since then they've been killing level design whenever they can help it to avoid that same pitfall, especially now that it's easier than ever for people to voice their complaints and even do so publicly.

It’s more than Sinnoh was designed kinda moronic in terms of progression, where the latter half of the game is just backtrack/flyspam to get from point A to point B, in contrast to Kanto/Johto/Hoenn where it occurred comparatively more sparingly. So naturally Gamefreak went full moron and instead of designing a region like the first 3 again they just went full linear.
