    >Furthermore, sales in Japan and Asia seem to have made up a big part of this momentum, as Yokoyama notes, “The game is incredibly strong in Japan. Sales in (the rest of) Asia are also quite strong, but the momentum in Japan is even greater than in the past.”

that's because Kiryu was either supposed to die/retire for good but then RGG realized they can milk him futher and rewrote the game, so people from Kiryu's history showed up but with no real closure
honestly I'm glad, I love Kiryu and I'm sucker for nostalgiabaiting

Gaiden was a better sequel for Kiryu than 8.
They could've just kept Kiryu and Ichiban separate. By bringing Kiryu back in 8 it just proves they have no faith in Ichiban as a protagonist.

Yakuza has been a yearly franchise since the first game, I think 2007 is the only year they actually skipped (2013 had the yakuza 1-2 HD port on wiiu). Though if you don’t count spinoffs and re-releases then the gap between games feels longer.

Kenzan Kiwami most likely, although they did say they'd likely need to change the story dramatically to make it acceptable in modern times, so expect it to be completely butchered and woke.

I though Ishin Kiwami bombed so hard so they wouldn't try to remaster those spin-offs again.

It did okay. The stupid decision to have an MTX store and for some reason make the game in the very stuttery Unreal Engine 4 definitely put a lot of people off, but it's still one of the more popular entries.

They already more or less confirmed Kiwami 3 is something they want but I still lean on it being a gaiden game.
Kenzan would be cool but that one also needs a full on remake like 3

          3 doesn't need a remake.

That's just because it's in the Dragon Engine. It's still a new game.
By that measure, Yakuza 6 is even more like a Kiwami 3 because 75% of Yakuza 6's story is straight up rehashed from 3.

Whole game was a cashgrab, and I was honestly put off by them shoving Kiryu into your party as a member. I liked 7 because it was Ichiban's story, the party was fricking based and it was a breath of fresh air. Turn based combat was also great. 7 is probably my favorite game in the series, perhaps on par with Judgement(s)

I'm probably the only person in the world that is so mad for Kiryu being a party member but honestly I wish he just fricked off, or remained caged in his own series

No I agree. I don’t know how they could have rejiggered the plot without Kiryu since it starts flip flopping between portags halfway through, but I would have rather had Yamai as a party member. Gaiden was a good length. Only thing that annoyed me was how the substories weren't naturally implemented and instead had to be picked from a list before you could go to them. Felt like the old games (1-4). Yokoyama's obsession with making games last for as long as possible is a drain on the series.

The lead localizer quit a while back, I think in 2020. The newer game localizations have definitely taken a nose dive, although it started with the re-localization of 3-5's remasters. At least mods could revert those.

The worst part is the translators had the gall to say it was more accurate when you can clearly hear "rapeu?" in the Japanese dub. It's obvious even to non-Japanese speakers what is being said.

Kiryu (No cancer) wins, Kiryu (with cancer) loses.

      Yakuza fatigue.

Also this, what would 9 even be about?
      > Kiryu is (probably) done for good
      > Ichiban's arc was perfectly finished in 7 (his FIRST GAME) and he's just here to suck off Kiryu in 8 and be a moron who casually forgives psychopaths.
      > Ichiban is great but there's really nothing they can do with him that can make him a logical choice for yet another protagonist, he's already done and wants to settle down.
      > Judgment? Kimura's reputation is stained, and Akira Nakao (Genda's actor) unfortunately passed away, so unless they switch to Sugiura as protagonist I don't see it continuing.
