If they were ever separate people, we have no timeline of when it happened specifically. The earliest mention of radagon is the war between the golden order and raya lucaria. Then they all made up, and radagon and rennala had 3 demigod children, meaning radagon must have been a god at that point.

I personally am not convinced of the separate person theory, but it's all pretty unclear. I can't claim otherwise for certain

they werent separate , and given that ancient dragon guys lore I assume the elden beast was always radagon and marika and possibly even created all the humans

I think they retroactively are given the demigod title after Radagon & Marika's marriage. Demigod doesn't necessarily mean half god, it can also mean a human who is raised to a god-like status, and I'd imagine you would qualify for that if your dad marries god.

u guys are still thinking too short term, and missing out the fact that dragonlord is waiting outside of time for elden beast to send him a text, the elden ring/ beast is marika/radagon or at least made them, and existed on the lands between before humans

The intro cutscene also says the demigods are all Marika's children. It's not a continuity error, it's supposed to be a reveal that's right in front of your face but that most people gloss over because they don't have context for it and it doesn't seem important at the time

I'm not even saying that Radagon and Marika weren't the same person at the time, just that the average citizen would not know it and that Ranni/Radahn wouldn't be called demigods in-universe until the marriage.

It's literally stated in the game that they were raised to demigod status when radagon married Marika.

Ranni and Radahn are both incredibly fricking powerful. We don't know how strong Rykard was before he fed himself to the god devouring serpent, but we do know that Ranni thought that he was capable of going head to head with Maliketh as long as he had a way to stave off destined death. They were not human.

The earliest mention is the war with the Giants where he was cursed with Red hair. I believe this war happened first as the First Church of Marika is found there in the Mountaintops. The Flame was the fledgling tree's biggest threat, then the Dragons, then Limgrave, THEN Radagon ascends from champion to Elden Lord with the conquest of Caria.

          >I don't know why people believe this
There is a line from a dialogue in which Marika is talking to Radagon and she say "You have yet to become a god, you have yet to become me".
A lot of people took that as meaning that they became one later, but I heard that the original Japanese dialogue is more akin to her talking to a split personality and telling him that he's not the main personality, or something like that.

          Anonymous

Because Radagon is a wildly different personality who acts counter to Marika and even continues to take over to defend the Elden Beast after Marika has been imprisoned. It makes more sense that Radagon was either an entirely different person who fused with Marika, or was some kind of counter personality who she forcibly split off from and then recombined with later, than it is for both of them to have always occupied the same body and have done everything they did. Marika couldn't just disappear for the years it would take for Radagon to lead the war against Raya Lucaria, end it, and have several children with Rennala

            Anonymous

Not that anon and yeah, I don't think they're the same literal person. I think it's more likely Radagon was some alternate personality split off from her or at least some sort of being willed by the Greater Will to counteract Marika. Also the game has a lot of conjoined imagery and twinned opposites so it's possible they could've been weird siblings too.

I'm just saying it's certainly not the only example of a major ruler being out of sight for years. Few to anyone had actually seen Morgott for his entire reign as king of Leyendell, and Radagon spent the entirety of his tenure as elden lord sealed in the erdtree. It doesn't seem unreasonable that Marika couldn't have sequestered herself away and then snuck out the back door as radagon. Especially if a margit-esque doppelganger was left behind.

This. A lot of character are confused over Radagon's existence and why he's Marka's favorite despite literally coming out of nowhere. Even if he was a separate person from Marika, it's still heavily implied that he was closely tied to her from the very beginning.

Radagon was married to Rennala in Liurnia at the same time as Marika was married to Godfrey in Leyndell, they were able to be in two different places at the same time. Bro, that's obviously what's going on. Marika split part of her consciousness into a separate entity while she still ruled in Lydnell. Why she originally did it is up to player interpretation (I believe she wanted to have one side of her free while the other completely dedicates herself to the greater will) but eventually it all came crashing down when Godwyn was killed. And I do think it's irony that her half that was dedicated to the greater will is the one that betrayed it, but that's all my conjecture. The only thing that is definitely set in stone is that they existed at the same time and are still part of the same being, just split.

I mean, canonically, Tarnished are basically like a black cat walking under a ladder while breaking a mirror. They're a tremendously bad omen and so generally you're attacked because everyone in the world hates you and wants you to leave ASAP.

She's top wife material, imagine going with that buxom prostitute who goes off her rocker and destroys the world and its age of serene stability under the erdtree and golden order. What for? What the frick made her decide to shatter the ring like that? What did she even mean by this?

              >What the frick made her decide to shatter the ring like that?
snapping the ROD in half basically made the GO shit the bed and panic. basically the GO was operating at the behest of the Erdtree, an alien parasite that feeds off of death.
The reason the GO hates TTLiD is not because it "upsets the order" but because they represent a threat to the erdtrees because their "food source" is wandering around aboveground rather than being collected by warrior jars who are then smashed by erdtree avatars to feed the nascent erdtrees
Basically Marika was tired of doing the GO's bidding and panicked after Ranni TK'd and DC'd Godwin and smashed the ring

Only Skeletons, Death bird variation and spiritcaller snails count as undead. This is a game with enemies like Putrid Corpses, Wraiths and multiple ghosts, none of which count as undead.

So the claim that the "Hollow" soldiers aren't a result of Living in Death being wrong based on aux bonuses can't be taken as fact, because the would be claiming the zombies aren't a result of deathblight.

Deathblight comes from Godwyn's half-dead body infecting the erdtree's roots, preventing it from bringing people back to life properly. There are multiple avenues for death and rebirth in the game's world and all of them are fricked up which is why there are several different types of undeath

                >There are several types of undeath
There is no lore on that at all, this sounds like a cope to explain why litany of a proper death doesn't do bonus damage to Putrid Corpse.

                >There is no lore on that at all
Death was governed by the deathbirds and mariners before the age of the erdtree came along and put them out of a job, which is why they're kind of just aimlessly wandering around the world surrounded by undead skeletons overflowing out of the ground. The erdtree supplanted the previous rules of death by absorbing and "recycling" people's souls so they could be reborn, but now the erdtree is fricked up too from Godwyn's corpse poisoning it at the roots, and Marika sealed away the literal metaphysical concept of death itself fricking the system up even further. Every system by which things are supposed to be able to die is broken, which is why Melina wants you to burn the erdtree and then sends you to Farum Azula to release the rune of death

                Nah.
She sends us there because it was a separate cut content ending once but then they merged it into one endgame and hoped you wouldn't notice, which is why we are randomly teleported there. They also cut a single line from Rune of Death cutscene talking about Erdtree burning in "black flame".
In 1.0. she has a dialogue where she tells you she just wants you to burn the barbs blocking the ENTRANCE to the Erdtree as opposed to the entire tree in current game.

She directly tells you "this world is in dire need of death indiscriminate," sets the magic tree that's keeping people immortal on fire, and then teleports you to the place where the physical embodiment of the concept of death is locked away so you can set it loose again. This isn't hard to parse, anon

                >why are the warrior jars full of dead people

                >oh shit, the warrior jars collect dead people then go get smashed to feed the erdtree because it's a literal eldritch parasite that feeds off of peoples souls and energy, hence the "return to the roots" and why the GO is so pissed about the existence of TTLiD
                Shitty, moronic lore:
                >use moronic emote near a statue, literally has to be explained via tooltip
                >Marika is Radagon

Fanboys cope about how the game is totally not horrendously unfinished because they can written ten paragraphs of 99% made-up horseshit to explain all the holes in the plot, but the fact remains that the most popular ending route remains Ranni's, which is coincidentally the only one that seems to involve characters with narrative and shit, and rave all about Radhan, whose lore is all completely explicit and most of which is presented in one of those straightforward cutscenes with narration they claim the game is higher-brow for eschewing.

The reason Ranni has a bunch of dialogue and shit and you'd be forgiven for forgetting Melina exists despite having the obvious closed eye symmetry that's never explained is simple: they cut content like motherfrickers. Same reason the gate to Mohg's palace was in Milenia's backyard and that after you kill Mohg supposedly to get to Miquella, the plotline just ends and you don't even get his Rune from his corpse, if he's even dead at all, and also you never mention any of this to Malenia, who also fights you because randomly trying to murder you specifically is the only thing everyone in this continent seems to agree on.

                >they cut content like motherfrickers
                that's plain as daylight

            >Those who live in death RIGHT FRICKING THERE

The only reason people claim it's not that is because From Software shit the bed when it came to defining enemies as undead for the aux bonus.

            >From Software shit the bed when it came to defining enemies as undead
Because most of them aren't undead dumbass, they're functionally immortal because the literal concept of death is sealed away and they've been "dying" and being resurrected over and over in endless wars for centuries

They're not resurrected, they're literally just undying and become walking mummies over time. Marika perverted the natural lifecycle the GW created when it planted the Crucible/Erdtree. All things are meant to life and die, and break and bend in old age.
            >Abandoning their birthplace after the Shattering, these undead beings are the pitiful product of unending life. They are most commonly found struggling to maintain balance while roaming the fields of The Lands Between. Surely they were in search of something once - but whatever it was has long been forgotten.

Renalla was so strong in her prime that Marika had to resort to seducing and psyoping her because she couldn't conquer Liurnia in a direct fight. This is the person who was able to genocide multiple factions backed by Outer Gods like the Fire Giants and Gloam Eyed Queen, but Renalla completely wrecked Marika in 2 separate wars

Unless Ranni's dream fight version of Renalla was an absolute joke compared to the real deal, it's ludicrous that Leyendell couldn't conquer Raya Lucaria. No, the more likely explanation is that Radagon saw the opportunity to become more powerful by joining and learning from the academy, which also gave him the opportunity to subvert it at almost no cost.

          >Unless Ranni's dream fight version of Renalla was an absolute joke compared to the real deal

The fact that everything in the game is perfectly killable by a random dickhead who's clearly weaker than everyone else is one of the most irreconcilable aspects of the game. All other Souls games rely on you being this grunt who has some special talent (usually, immortality) that allows them to overcome insurmountable enemies through sheer grit, but Elden Ring goes to far in building up its threats only to have them all fall to the same butthole, up to an including Gideon's A MAN CANNOT KILL A GOD followed up by a man killing said God by stabbing it a bunch of times like it was one of those random forest bears. It isn't even clear if your character is supposed to be able to revive of it's just a gameplay thing.

Sekiro was written around the same time as Elden Ring and that game made it clear Wolf was pretty damn good at his job already, so him also being able to revive makes him a match for his toughest enemies, which are almost all also just pretty good human fighters with the occasional superpower. Here the difference in power is ridiculous.

Godfrey is literally just a random dude like the PC is and he’s established as one of the strongest in the lore. The story dies establish that gigachad humans can compete with Demicucks and ayylmaos in power level

also Wolf is canonically unable to do literally anything meaningful until he collects the IB. without Rivers of Blood (lol), Wolf wouldn't have been able to even remotely do anything to DoH, Headless Ape, or Genichiro.

I'm assuming the Runes are supposed to be that "thing" that sets the Tarnished apart, but it's pretty meaningless when you're supposed to believe that +10 vitality makes you able to kill a god

that's the exact same situation as the Tarnished, all of them get brought back from dying. Eventually once they prove themselves major frickups they lose their ability to see grace again, which is why most of the NPCs you encounter stay dead when you kill them.

              >all of them get brought back from dying
If not for the intro cinematic, there wouldn't be a single goddamn thing in the game even vaguely hinting at the Tarnished being undead. The only things in the game are "ye dead, who still live" and the shots of Gideon in his tomb and PoopoMuncher getting hanged. Then the game starts and this is never brought up again, much less any mention of how this ties up with the other type of undead that is bad, unlike your type of undead, which is good.

They did the undead protagonist thing at the start because this is Dark Souls 4, but then completely forgot about it during the rest of the game.

I'm fairly certain it's a belief/faith thing. Rodericka wasn't a frickup, she had a clear ability to see the spirit world, but she got spooked hard and lost all self esteem. BLACKGUARD BIG BOGART never had any faith at all in himself, and as such, could never see the Graces from the start. My question is: EHAT THE FRICK DOES IT MEAN THAT DEATH IS SEALED??? There is absolutely nothing in the entire game that makes it seem like death being sealed has an actual effect. We don't see anything that would make us think death doesn't work.
            >Stab somebody
            He dies
            >stab demigod
            >he dies
So where the frick is the reason for sealed death? Grace is the thing that revives us and its working even after death is released. homies in the thread, just admit it doesn't make any sense

              Anonymous

To me it feels like Destined Death was only meant to be the 'kills things super fricking hard' part of Death, not the entirety of it. You need it to burn down the entire Erdtree and the Black Flame used to be able to one shot Gods, and sealing it made it a lot harder to kill Gods/Demigods (and maybe stopped them dying from Old Age). Hence why you're still able to kill Demigods and bosses without it.
Except then woops everyone's Hollow and immortal (please ignore the fact that the worldbuilding as a whole does not take into account that everyone is immortal). Except for all those people Dung Eater murdered.

After death every soul goes back to the Erdtree where it brings everyone back eventually in an endless cycle of death and rebirth. Thats why Erdtree burial is so important in the lands between. Souls were stuck in this state making everyone mad and violent af.
Destined Death is the release of that cycle, that is why everyone is so afraid of it.

that should be obvious, Ranni is a shell of herself in doll form and creating an illusion. Renalla's personal knights were strong enough to match Marika's champions, those being classified as people like Ragadon or Godfrey

          >Weapon of knights sworn to Carian royalty.

          >Bernahl probably got to the Forge of the Giants with his maiden to burn the Erdtree
Which would have necessitated beating fricking Morgott to open the way. All these backstory nonsense attempts completely rely on assuming these guys who've right there since the Shattering inexplicably took a long weekend off blocking their paths and shit so these other random buttholes could theoretically do thing they obviously couldn't have.

See Bernahl got to the Forge because Morgott and the Fire Giant went to the Bahamas on vacation that week. Also he even got to Altus in the first place by taking the long we round either through Volcano manor or the mine cave but not killing anything because the monsters haunting these places left him along since he was such a swell guy.

Vyke got closest than anybody to being the Elden Lord by defeating two members of the Golden Lineage, Gilfroiding of the Golden Nipple, and Bob, and also got all the way to the forge because Morgott was off visiting Comicon at the time.

For a long time it was a popular theory that Solaire is basically another main character in an alternate world, going through the same trials and victories you are. Because different worlds and times are all coming together at the end of the age of fire, just like he says early on, the different potential worlds are coming together, mixing, allowing for the meeting of otherwise impossible cooperation. Hence why you can call other undead, other players, despite the fact that you can't ALL have gotten as strong, fought the same bosses, etc. Under that theory most of the other people you meet are all potential chosen undead who could have had X or Y adventure, and Solare's basically the only other person who could have made it all the way to the end, and even then only with the intervention of a friend from another world.

                Anonymous

Not even a theory really, it's directly confirmed by Solaire and originally Oscar was going to be another "chosen undead" that was sort of like your Gary Oak and he'd make it to the end of the game trying to do the opposite of whatever you were trying to do

The alternate worlds thing never made sense from a worldbuilding perspective and seems at odds with the setting

There's 2-3 unaccounted great runes that you cannot obtain.
                >Miquella's. It isn't attached to his body, as Mohg only has his own rune in his possession.
                >Ranni's. It's on the moon, good luck getting that one in the dlc.
                >Godwyn's? He died before the shattering, but some dumb frick probably brought a rune fragment to his corpse before losing it.
And it's only the 2 fingers that block you specifically from entering the capital, not anything else. Morgott is the one that blocks the path to the forge, but considering that one of the Haslow brothers was known to be at the mountaintop before Morgott dies, it stands to reason that there was another path there at some point.

Is the game actually running off the souls concept of every tarnished being from a different time? Elden Ring story and Lore is a shitty clusterfrick because they just lazily did Dark Souls world again and forgot to fill in important details that made that world cohesive and actually interesting.

Seriously, so many things lack crucial information or are even contradictory. And this is not just some obscure lore elements, but actual main fricking story. Seriously.

If you ask loregays or Vaati fanboys ANY of these questions, you will always get like 10 completely different, often contradictory answers, each delivered to you with 100% certainty and telling you to git gud because you didn't get Miyazaki's brilliant storytelling made from reading shitty random item descriptions:
    >Why did Marika shatter the Elden Ring?
    >What is Destined Death/Rune of Death? How are they different? If death went wrong and no one dies, how do we kill fellow Tarnished, Demigods, bosses etc.
    >Who was Torrent's former master and why Torrent chose us?
    >Who is Melina, why she disappears for 90% of the game explaining frick all about anything and then appears again to kill herself, again, with no explanation?
    >Why are we teleported to Farum Azula out of blue? Why we need Rune of Death? Why and how are we teleported back to Leyndell?

I won't even mention shit like bad worldbuilding. Apparently Lands Between is a home to countless mines, caves, dungeons, catacombs but no cities (only one), villages, fields to make food or even fricking ports for ships to arrive.

This is more than just typical Dark Souls ambigous storytelling. This is a clearly rushed and rewritten game. Not to mention there was ZERO reason to be obscure. DaS was obscure because it was the theme of the game and it's story. Demon Souls was straightforward, so was Bloodborne and ESPECIALLY Sekiro, so WHY Elden Ring isn't? When it's clearly based on worldbuilding by GRRM with way more epic, heroic fantasy with politics, families, dynasties playing IMPORTANT role?

    It's such a fricking mess.

      Anonymous

Most important part though, is that we aren't meant to CARE at all about Lands Between.
      >Other lands seem to be doing alright aside from Reeds.
      >We are dropped randomly and expected to just go into the world and kill shit for no reason.
      >Only later we are taken to Roundtable and told about restoring Elden Ring and becoming an Elden Lord but WHY would i want to do that? Grace casted me away in the first place so maybe i don't want to listen to it anymore? And before you say "you do whatever you want" then there is no point for the story to exist in the first place.

What happens if we just frick off? We don't know. Like, actually do not know. Every answer is just headcanon like "world/physics/laws will frick up" but nothing actually confirms that. EVERY other From game gave us a reason to do shit:
      >DeS
Demon's will frick up humanity if we don't do something.
      >DaS
Age of Fire is ending and Age of Dark is coming. Also Oscar saves you at the start and tells you about prophecy, making you indebted to him.
      >Sekiro
You are shinobi serving a young lord. You help him because he saved your life, because he is an innocent and because your adoptive father told you to.
      >BB
You are trapped in a nightmare and have to survive.

But NOTHING in ER motivates us to do fricking ANYTHING. It's like they forgot to do the most basic of basics because they were too trapped in copying shit redditors want from a Souls game like shonen anime bosses/Artorias on crack, item descriptions and other garbage.

      >Killed Godwyn
He was a glowing shill for the Golden Order. He was in the way and needed to die for the next part two parts to happen
      >Killed herself
The main reason is that letting her body die helps her escape her intended destiny. As a bonus, she now also gets to pretend that she’s Renna (avoiding the consequences of her previous identity), and it turns out that dolls are actually pretty hard to kill.
      >Started the Shattering
Basically every single person who opposed her went off and murdered each other. Furthermore, the war absolutely trashed the strength/stability of the Golden Order (her main enemy). The resulting chaos of the Shattering gave her room to set her plans in motion which would have otherwise been impossible.
      >Marry’s the tarnished
      You’re her little rare-sort
      >All of the above
Ranni, just like Marika, fricking seethes over the fact that God exists, and tries to tell her what to do. She is an advocate of free will, although it’s apparent that there’s no lengths she won’t go to, with zero concern for the amount of misery and suffering that will result from her actions.

So tl;dr she’s a psycho who had a woman moment, and then girlboss’d her way to victory. The bright side is that despite all of this, she seems to genuinely have some feelings for you.

Correct, but from what we can tell, it’s not actually telling her what to do.

Because he was a truly devout tried and true Faithbro. He only married Rennala to win the Carians over to the Golden Order, even refurbished his wedding sword into a Golden Order one. He only merged (back) with Marika because he genuinely believes in the Golden Order's cause, even if it meant overriding Marika for her woman moment.

People who think he genuinely loved Rennala are coping Rennalagays. Fanartists who draw Marika/Radagon still pining for Rennala are the same. Radagon only ever cared about one thing, and that's his faith in the Greater Will over everything else.

Radagon just used Rennala for his/Marika's gain, I don't believe he ever truly loved her, and just wanted to gain power/information from Raya Lucaria and the Carian family.

Radagon was a dog of the Golden Order, it's why he went out of his way to try and repair the Elden Ring, Marika wanted nothing to do with the Golden Order anymore, so in a way she had betrayed the Greater Will, Radagon was punished by association even though he still served the Greater Will and wanted the Elden Ring repaired.

We really know nothing about Radagon's origin though, as others have said, Marika probably just created Radagon or willed him into existence, maybe the Greater Will did it? Either way he was clearly just a servant of the Greater Will/Golden Order.

      >We really know nothing about Radagon's origin though, as others have said, Marika probably just created Radagon or willed him into existence, maybe the Greater Will did it?
It seems to be more likely that he was brought into existence out of sheer cognitive dissonance. Marika is the golden goddess and incarnate avatar of the erdtree, but she hates the erd tree and the elden ring? It makes no sense, and she knows it doesn't. Radagon rectifies exists not only to calcify order before it can decay further, but to bring logic to Marika's existence.

        Anonymous

It would make more sense if the Greater Will created Radagon to keep Marika on a leash, or as a backup plan if Marika didn't work out. We know nothing about the Greater Will except that it's a god-like entity but it has no form or history that we know of, it wouldn't be out of the question that the Greater Will can just literally DO anything, of course it apparently couldn't stop us from slaying the Elden Beast and dismantling the Golden Order.

          Anonymous

The Greater Will doesn't like to micromanage, despite what the homosexual fingers pretend. If anyone interfered, it was probably the Elden Beast itself, its influence growing inside of her as she continued to hate and scheme against it.

Here the difference in power is ridiculous.

          >up to an including Gideon's A MAN CANNOT KILL A GOD
The point of that speech is that Gideon is an idiot and a salty loser who was trying to rationalize some newbie being the grace given chosen champion and not him.

          >Unless Ranni's dream fight version of Renalla was an absolute joke compared to the real deal
that should be obvious, Ranni is a shell of herself in doll form and creating an illusion. Renalla's personal knights were strong enough to match Marika's champions, those being classified as people like Ragadon or Godfrey

          >Weapon of knights sworn to Carian royalty.
          >These knights' swords could serve as catalysts, letting them wield sorcerous battle skills. Despite numbering fewer than twenty, this power made them a match for even the champions of gold in battle.

Ranni can just fricking kill you in one hit without being able to do anything. I find it hard to believe that she couldn't have made dream Renalla tougher if she wanted to. The more likely explanation is that this is just how strong she actually was, which makes sense, she was ultimately only human.

I can agree with that. We're talking 1,000 years of in-game history at the absolute least and Marika's life is a gigantic black hole. We barely know anything about Radagon, so it's not even worth theorizing when he "manifested" or whether he was a normal guy that fused with her.

It's heavily inferred he had justarrived there late considering he was mourning Morgott who was guarding the Erdtree the whole time.

Until the Endtree started burning, there was no way in. The Endtree burning was visible all over the Lands Between. When Godfrey saw that, then he knew it was time to go home.

This. I imagine that the reason why he wouldn't even storm the capital is because he probably knew Morgott and co. are still defending it, else he'd have to face his own children.

Reminder that Elden Ring was designed to have a bunch of cool looking shit first and story second. It's like if you went on deviantart and pulled the 20 best fantasy artworks and then tried to come up with a story to pull them all together.

unironically the involvement of GRRM ruined it
introducing "royal family squabbles and backstabbing" into the story didn't make that mundane shit interesting, it just made the rest of the story feel mundane.
unironically it would have been more interesting to chase the Rune of Death and have that function like the Immortal Blade, where you can actually perma-kill shit
It impacts the story because the Erdtree and GO sustain themselves by feeding off of the energy of making humanity constantly wage war, reviving them, and keeping the cycle of war going. By using the RoD, you upset the GO's cycle by perma-killing the people who were supposed to be feeding it energy via warfare. No need to introduce "well see the queen was upset because her consort fricked another girl and then they all got upset."

      >all of them get brought back from dying
If not for the intro cinematic, there wouldn't be a single goddamn thing in the game even vaguely hinting at the Tarnished being undead. The only things in the game are "ye dead, who still live" and the shots of Gideon in his tomb and PoopoMuncher getting hanged. Then the game starts and this is never brought up again, much less any mention of how this ties up with the other type of undead that is bad, unlike your type of undead, which is good.

They did the undead protagonist thing at the start because this is Dark Souls 4, but then completely forgot about it during the rest of the game.

deepest lore is that you were somebody that was banished by Marika from the Lands Between (the interstice) as a 500IQ move to give her footsoldiers when she confused the GO by shattering the elden ring

      >mash through all character dialogue, skip all cutscenes, and don't read any loredumps in item descriptions
      >"wtf this game has no story who even are these people"

      >no you don't understand, if you go back to the Sacred Forest and use the "Scratching Balls" gesture at exactly 3:00 AM in front of the second from the left statue AFTER killing Zanzibart but BEFORE killing the Myrmidon of Loss, you'll get the "Mound of Exalted Earwigs Chalice" that you can take to the Roundtable Hold and Zarnubius will tell you that he's paraplegic now

Anon is delusional. Allowing you to actually marry Ranni is definitively the main reason why it's picked so many times. I still remember when other waifugays kept trying to justify their choices in pursuing the other girls whether or not they liked their respective questlines.

Hell, most Melinagays have switched to the Frenzied Flame ending because it turns her into a yandere that will forever chase you to the ends of the earth.

Ranni being From's most explicit waifu to date certainly helps things, but I think it matters a lot that she has the only major questline where you constantly visit locations, talk to characters and develop a bond with both them and her before it's over. I think it's one of the reasons people love her but nobody gives a rat frick about Anri from DS3 despite you marrying her too, her questline seems like the only one where From allowed themselves to stop being so beholden to their paltry, piecemeal quest structure and actually let you fricking talk to someone and learn who they are and what they want

If Sekiro is any indication, it's probably far less of a design choice than just the fact that the game was clearly rushed as hell. ER feels like they did all the locations and scenery first, and then had to scrape together the actual present-time events while racing the deadlines.

You know how they set up the thing with the Frenzied Flame people possessing corpses like Shabriri possessing Yura and Hyetta having the exact same model and voice as that chick that dies in Limgrave? But then they did frick-all with the idea with Hyetta and just left that girl's corpse where it was so they're just perfect dopplegangers for no reason?

Also remember how Pebbles got a random addition to his quest line where he shows up in a place he has no fricking connection to and gives you a thing to return to Tanith, but just says "I do not need that thing" and that was the end to the quest, and then later they did another addition to his quest that is definitely not them just scraping whatever that was supposed to lend to and instead reusing all the code and locations from the beginning of his quest to just call it quits?

I don't get why anybody says this game is unfinished.

They should have removed Irina's corpse and I'm sure that was an oversight, but it the concept wasn't "for no reason" and they did do something important with it: establish that Shabriri is a fricking liar.

The only unfinished parts are a handful of sidequests that don't have anything to do with the main plot like Tanith, and people keep acting like that means the entire plot of the game is an unfinished mess when it's by far the most complete and clear-cut of any of these games

        Bloodborne:
        >solid resolution where it's revealed that in fact the moon presence was controlling everything and the reason the Hunter's Dream exists is because a bunch of quack scientists started transfusing people with eldritch god blood, thus allowing them to see a bizarro realm inhabited by eldritch abominations
        Sekiro:
        >Dragons heritage came from the west, once you uncover all of the necessary steps to access the divine realm, you can learn that you actually have a way to return the dragon's heritage where it came from and balance the forces of life and death again. The Mortal Blades were created as a way to sever immortality should DH ever fall into the hands of someone unprepared to deal with it, but had to be wielded by someone who was immortal so that those unaware of its power could never use it.

I'll give you Dark Souls since between 2 and 3 it stopped making sense to anyone that wasn't obsessively searching out lore

The obvious difference between the game just very plainly laying some things out for you in cinematic and dialogues while leaving extremely important stuff (including just giving supposedly major characters any screentime) to be, ehem, "gleamed" from choppy bits of scattered shit is probably the most hilarious example of why deep lore fanboys claiming these are deliberate design choices are delusional.

One of my favorite examples if how the singing vulture enemy things actually have coherent lyrics and all. Then a pivotal lore fact relating to the central figure of the setting is delivered via a fricking tooltip located several meters away from the completely useless statue that supposedly held the actual secret. Acting like this was anything but the devs hurriedly stringing together whatever they could at the last minute and that they totally meant it to be like this from the start is just the highest of cope.

Most quests were literally unfinished on release for fricks' sake. Not broken or bugged, the fricking content wasn't even in the game. For months there were these obviously conspicuous, closed structures and that ghost lamenting why the gates wouldn't open for him, and the answer to that mystery ended up being "this was the cut coliseum content we couldn't get ready for release."

yeah, the path to uncovering lore reads like a fricking Holders story
        >on the fifth night of the second week of the year on a bloodmoon, travel to the nearest bus station and ask the attendant if he knows of a place you can stay the night. He will respond "I have, but only for those who seek the Old Truth." He will open a door for you, you must enter it backwards. If you hear someone whisper "so sad that Steve Jobs died of Ligma" DO NOT respond to them. You will bump into an archaic double door. Peer through the mail slot, and someone will hand you an airplane bottle of Maker's Mark. Drink half of it, then pour the rest on the ground, whispering "for those who have not yet learned to see" in French. If done correctly, a trapdoor will open for you, and you will fall for so long that you go unconscious. When you awake, there will be seven Shiba Inu's standing near you. One will hold a scroll. Pick up this scroll, but don't read it. Exit the room that you're in and walk up a set of stairs, only using the steps that correspond to prime numbers. When you open the door at the top, you'll notice that the scroll has turned into a McDouble. Eat exactly half of it. The half that remains is the "Holder of the End"

        >Turtle Pope tells you that the statue of Radagon in Leyndell harbors a secret

Yes, that's the point, you moron. Turn out the statue DOESN'T hold a secret, because the secret is instead spelled out by a random tooltip close to it. Which is so obviously not the way the game presents fricking everything else that it was clearly not how that was meant to go, but it was so obviously the result of rushed development that they probably hacked that together in rush instead of doing whatever they originally meant to do with the actual statue.

You cast a spell that dispels illusions in front of a statue of Radagon, and that statue physically transforms into a statue of Marika. The opening cutscene shows Marika smashing the elden ring and then immediately after it shows Radagon in the same position in the same spot trying to repair it. You see Marika transform into Radagon in the final boss fight. Melina quotes Marika to you, calling Radagon "mine other self." The developer message is there to spell it out for braindead slackjawed morons like you who couldn't put two and two together even after all of that

Regarding the Pope Turtle-Radagon-Goldmask questline, I don't get why people would want lore drops explained outright without your own investment or input in actually pursuing these quests and lorebits. It makes the world feel more authentic in actually forcing you to engage with it in pursuing this knowledge instead of just being spoonfed to you on a silver platter in some obligatory cutscene.

I like how Malenia has a move to disengage in order to preserve her posture, except that since in this game bosses recover posture so slowly (do they even recover it at all?) that it doesn't make any difference and she has way better ways to stop your attacks anyway. Not to mention the consequence of a posture break is just a critical hit with milquetoast damage that's lower than a Bleeding proc.

Because she definitely isn't a sloppily reused asset swap of another katana-wielding lady from a different game starring a guy with an artificial arm against whom posture-preserving disengages actually made any fricking sense. FromSoft never cuts content and chops it up together later, that's just crazy talk.

She clearly had to be nerfed since she was obviously intended for Wolf to fight, and Wolf actually has counters to her crap. And even then they were sloppy with it. For instance, there's the fact that she can cancel out of a stagger, which is bullshit in Elden Ring, but would be fine in Sekiro since Wolf can also cancel out of attacks to deflect. Waterfowl was obviously just a souped up One Mind you were intended to deflect, none of this "dodge towards the camera then away from it" bullshit.

There's videos of the 1.0 version of the game that showcase all her old behavior, and even in the final game the description for "Waterfowl Dance" makes more sense with the now-unused one than it does with the used one.

Yeah the other one was called Malenia's Blade or something like that and she did it along the ground instead of leaping through the air

I think it's just Ye Olde Speak for "he came here to liurnia at the head of the golden order's army."

The total number of demigods is another thing the game barely touches on. Judging by info from gideon, enia, bernahl, vyke, etc. there were a bunch of demigods out there we don't know, with great runes of their own. Also, each walking mausoleum houses a "soulless demigod", apparently one of many to die on the same night as godwyn. And apparently in the same way, soul but not body. Which also connects to the mausoleum knights, and the eclipse ritual that miquella apparently tried to bring about for godwyn. Jesus christ, that's a lot

There really is a lot of confusing and vague stuff in this game but I love it all

Many of them had children that we don't hear about, we know Godrick is a descendant of Godwyn and Rykard had god knows how many mutant snake bastard children so I'd imagine several of the others also had kids and those kids had kids and most of them just weren't very important

Quick reminder that the game was originally about the great runes. Not just "rune of godrick" bullshit we had
    >the rune decay for malenia
    >rune of abundance for miquella
    >rune of connection for godrick
    >miquella quest with miquella credited 5 months before release
    >the ability to channel the runes power
Well, for some reason they decided to not use the fricking thing the very game was named after

The fact that there's no in-game reason to actually gather all the runes is another obvious dead end. Loregays can fanwank all they want about "you're securing your future rule from challengers!" or whether, but it's an obvious mechanic they dropped.

Seriously I thought the game would be about collecting the runes but you can just rush to Leyndell and collect only Morgott's if you want lol

How the frick do you even make the elden ring like that

You can't get into Leyndell without getting two other shards first, you didn't play the game

You can't enter the capital without 2 great runes iirc, unless you use some kind of exploit. Maybe activating the elevator on the divine tower, or something. Through normal play, any player should have at least 3 great runes when beating the game

Ok I actually didn't know that, still dumb the runes aren't a requirement to make the elden ring and instead they put a wall in your way for no reason.

Technically you can enter Leyndell through the teleporter trap in the Weeping Peninsula, but you can't actually reach the capital proper with it.
In lore the reason you need 2 great runes to explore the capital is because the Two Fingers itself is blocking the two ways into the actual city, as it wants you to 'prove yourself worthy' before you can reach the throne.

You get transported there via a trapped chest. Get an invader to raise the lift for you.
The "barrier" is just that, a flimsey door at the service entrance.
Golden Godfrey can be your first boss if you want.
Looks like you didn't play the game enough.

Its just crazy that they couldn't even be bothered to actually give some flavor text to the runes like "this is the rune of decay, it controls the cycle of decay that affects all things" ot something like that. Especially considering that was the original plan for the runes. There is literally nothing to the runes. They are just some random pieces for the elden ring. Except for the rune of the unborn and the rune of the death. THOSE do something. For some reason. Well, originally it was planned that you could channel all the runes through your blade.

Honestly I always got the vibe that he never had a choice. Radagon seems to have been fond of his first wife, he still kept the sword Rennala gave him which is her version of a wedding ring, but he's also defined by his dogmatic loyalty to the Golden Order. When Marika started pushing back on the Greater Will, Radagon was called back to keep an eye on her because he's their loyal dog and he'll do anything they ask no question.

My ex gf once wore my clothes, even my ballcap which i used to wear often and started to speak like me as a goof. I never had been harder. I fricked her there and then. The more she spoke like me and moaned the hotter it was.

I've always had the opinion his "love" was just an act. He worked his way into her heart, made Renala love him so deeply, and left her so brutally, just to destroy Caria. He'd lost 2 wars against her and couldn't win through force, so he won through charm. Truly devious. I think Radagon is legit the biggest Golden Order simp willing to do anything at the behest of his God. Marika saw the damage of the Greater Will preying upon the people of Earth and the Lands and sacrifices everything to free all life from the grasp of the Gods. In the end she succeeded and it was left to us to write a new order. In her eyes, nothing could be worse than being a slave to the divine. In Radagon's nothing could be better.

      That's why I prefer Radagon.

If Marika and Radagon are the same person then why does Radagion oppose us at the end of the game and try to fix the ring? If Radagon is a different form of Marika or created by her, why did she do that?

Even if the theory that they were the same person is as literal as it sounds, split-personalities aren't exactly new in fiction, anon.

Thats just returning chimerism to the world as it was when the Crucible was dominant. Its just filtered through the Narrator's lens as a "curse". The Knot talismans say Omenhood was once considered a blessing.

They're physically and maybe spiritually the same/connected, but Radagon still exists as an entity distinct from Marika, one who still adheres firmly to the Golden Order and wants to defend it at all costs. We don't know why she did it, but if you figure he was created by Marika, she likely split the aspect of herself that was willing to adhere to the GO off to do it's own thing so she could focus on subverting the GO and setting up her plan to frick over the Greater Will

Yeah, this is how I've always taken it and why the Greater Will beckoned Radagon to return and fuse with her.

Why doesn’t Ranni tell her mom that she’s alive and married before she leaves with you?
Why can’t you take Rennala with you?

Radagon never cared about Rennala, and only wanted access to sorcery and to sabotage a potential threat. His icon even says that he only did it because he felt incomplete, the prospector mask says he stamped down on sorcerers, and the telescope even says that carian astrology was withering into nothing under his reign.
The rune of the unborn might be a mistranslation, it might mean a rune of "a" unborn god, as in singular.
