I've sunk about 50 hours into it after the Wastelanders update came out.
If you like the gameplay of Fallout 4 you'll probably enjoy doing the same thing but it multiplayer more.
The game is also an unbearable grind if you play by yourself.

The entire game is a Fallout theme park. You walk around and go "oh hey Super Mutants! I know those *clap clap* Haha Mr Handy butlers *clap clap* and you walk around and see other "guests" [players] also enjoying their time in the Fallout Theme Park. That being said, it's the least "Fallout" feeling Fallout game. There is no grim story about survival, nukes, Vault Tec, trying to defend yourself from raiders, etc. It's literally "Turn off your brain and ride the Deathclaw themed roller coaster and have fun". It's.... certainly an experience, but probably not the experience you're thinking of when you think of Fallout games

Only reason I'm playing it is because I'm done with minecraft and both me and my best friend have been Fallout fans for the last 15 years, so Fallout+ base construction seemed like an enterteining notion. Walking around and talking to the npcs is pretty bad, I wish there fewer npcs

Wtf you talking about you stupid mutant homosexual. Huuurrrrr what is ..
      >Story of scortch plague
      >Responders story
      >BoS getting fricked
      >Mole people
      >Frick loads of company / government shady shit with quests
      >Holotapes of people getting burned alive
      >Notes describing families getting mauled
      >Human vs human thunderdome games / Fighting to the death
      >Failed experiments
      >Stories found in corpses
Maybe if you got past the start screen and read or listened to anything other than your stupid level number xp bar youd know that you dumb Black person mutant moron gay.

        >ALL THE LORE OF THE GAME IS IN.....LE HOLOTAPES AND NOTES FOUND ON CORPSES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yeah, wow, this is exactly the kind of "experience" i want playing a fallout game.
        not interacting with any NPC's
not going on any memorable quests where i can do an evil thing or a good thing
        just listening to holotapes
        and reading notes

awful writing and quests but it has very good gunplay. there are some mods that change the quest design and add some good quests that tie into the main quest

It's totally playable with the base game. There's no pay to win shit. And the community is actually really nice and will gift you all sorts of stuff if you run into the right people.

It's those games where you can just turn your brain off, do classic Bethesda style side quests and just kinda enjoy the ride. But yeah, the other anon calling it a theme park is true. But it's like those casual games you wanna boot up and play with bros.

Quests are good its just a slow start with the first dinner quest, they make you build a camp for it. Ive gotten everything i liked in the shop without buying atoms. Also your stash is limited so you cant horde stuff.

    >Asking Gankerags if a game is good
I just dumped 100 hours in it over the past 2 weeks, you can listen to Gankeraggots here all day that have never played this game.
Basically if you liked fallout 4 and the thought of wishing for coop crossed your mind, then this is the game for you. If you had F04 you'll not like this game.

If you like fo4 you'll love it.
Initially on far 1-2 you'll get overwhelmed by information overload. You have to learn how perks work, how to progress your story and start focused on a quest (lol), set to your camp (base), and then how to manage your inventory and figure what you wanna do weapon wise going forward. If you don't get filtered from that stuff (basically the usual fallout learning process) then you'll like it a lot, and probably consider modding it to suit your tastes more.

Give it a try man, /vg/' s /fog/ could probably provide more insight. Just ignore the "fallout ___ " is better than ____ gays.

Why are you here, redditor? I always find it amusing how you gays go "HAHAHAHA IMAGINE TRUSTING Ganker's opinion with anything" then you ALWAYS have bottom of the barrep normalgay tastes and opinions. See: (You). Also are you the homosexual that cried "NOOOOOO WHY ARE YOU SO HOSTILE I AM BEING LITERALLY MURDERED" when someone posted a edit of your shitty meme?

You can upgrade carry stuff like old games but you can also get a backpack. 1400 wt is available at camp, and you have to pay more. Basically dont overly packrat stuff. Collect stuff you need and rare stuff like adhesive and copper. Sell excess at your own shop and you can also recycle legendary items into more legendaries you actually want.

You just described 90% of the gameplay

if carry weight is an issue then you might have to pick some perks that reduce item weights on top of getting the backpack or excavator power armor. this means you might lose out on potential damage depending on your build

        Is the story any good?
Is there anything redeemable about it?

the original "story" is a boring slog because it is literally reading notes and listening to holotapes that drag on and on but once you get to the watelanders quests, you start to get a proper story involving npcs. that being said some of the quest lines like the enclave and garrahan mining company are pretty good on their own.

      Anonymous

And right when you think “I wish I had more carry weight” you check out the backpack requirements and realize what a grind this game is.

just wait for sale you can buy it for 5 bucks and if you can manage your stash you don't have to pay for anything

  12. 2 weeks ago

No money required. And because you’re new you’ll make a good amount of the in game currency (atoms) doing basic things like repairing weapons so you will be able to buy some shop items. That dries up around 100 hours in.

As I've been replaying New Vegas, I've been getting a nagging feeling of "This place is the most fricked it's ever been"
        I actually can appreciate that.

Yes, not really. It's more of the same from fallout 4. The sort of turn off your brain and frick about style.

Honestly, now is the best time to get in. they made the leveling experience a lot easier and got rid of some of the grindier elements that made me quit two years ago. I even made a new character and have been having a good time playing solo.
the alien event is going on right now so that is something you can do every hour on the hour to level up fast and get lots of legendary weapons.

here are some tips for new players that I've been using:
    >always be in a public team, free extra xp for no extra work
    >join every public event (the exclamation mark) and just shoot things for massive xp gain
    >visit other player's camps to buy plans or collect free food and water
    >you learn weapon mods by scrapping so scrap everything you aren't using
    >the game "starts" at level 50 so try to save side quests for then so you get the rewards at max item level
    >daily ops are a good way of farming ammo
    >train stations are where you trade with npc vendors
    >legendary items can be sold for scrip at train stations
    >scrip can buy modules, which lets you reroll your legendaries
    >modules are bought at the rusty pick
    >many events give treasury notes which trade for gold bullion
    >bullion traders are at foundation and crater
    >caps, scrip, and notes all have daily earning limits so max them out

Imagine the deliberately-designed scarcity of ammo, meds and other supplies that exist in the first two Fallout games.

Now imagine a Fallout game where that isn't deliberate, but rather it's because most enemies are damage sponges who will stare at you blankly as you fill them with bullets.

Because it's an MMO made by people who don't know how to make an MMO.

Playing it now, got it for free.
Lots to do but locking weapons to levels was moronic. Also every enemy scales with your level for some reason so I haven't really felt like I'm getting any stronger in the game.
Oh I'm level 20 now! Oh... Every enemy is level 20...
Items break again so grab all the junk you can carry and constantly scrap everything just to have enough aluminum to fix your gun when it breaks.
Paying to fast travel was a decent idea. Is it worth 20 caps to save 20 minutes of walking? Sometimes...
Map is big and varied. I don't want to spend real money and haven't felt tempted to yet. Level 30 now and just doing random quests and exploring. Tired of FO4 but wanted something like it again.
