I dont understand why they sold so much worse when they are objectively better than the originals. Why would you play any of the first two versions when the third version exists?

They could have a "Legends" game set in present time. The way they get the whole "violent wild pokemon" gimmick to work could be that they are under some spell or something from the evil bad guy team/threat of the region.

Once you defeat the big baddie that is causing the wild pokemon to attack you, you beat the game. However, when you re-enter the save file it brings you back to just before you faced the final boss like in BotW so that you can still wrap things up (and do post game things) while the in-world reason for the pokemon being angry still exists.

It's good but very repetitive (but nonetheless refreshing). The intent oozes depth - its classically whimsical in that pokemon way, it has an engaging core gameplay loop (even if as said it gets tired and is far from replayable), and there's clearly a lot of love for the franchise as a whole put into it - when considered along recent mainline games. I like to think it can be a good platform to build off. I genuinely don't know what makes some anons seethe so much.

The problem was they used the new 3d programming staff for PLA as their testing game. SV was developed during the same time as PLA and used their older staff that have no idea how to make a 3d game. It's also why none of the improvements from PLA carried over.

Pretty sure its passed 14 million now, but people love to hate on Legends for some reason. I think people are just allergic to anyone saying they're having fun in a Pokemon game that isn't from whatever their favorite (introductory) Pokemon generation is.

    It was topped by:
    >Crystal
    >Emerald
    >Platinum
    >HGSS
    >B2W2
    >USUM
    >SwSh
    >SV
So yes it has been topped and will probably be topped again. A fantastic and highly refreshing entry in the series, but ultimately not a highlight, it is to me perfect proof that diverting from the core Pokemon formula can produce a beautiful game, but most likely cannot surpass any definitive generation titles. Arceus feels as if it’s the lesser two games of a generation, like a Diamond and Pearl that will never receive a Platinum; for all the mature and fascinating new turns that the game takes, there are some glaring flaws that prevent it from reasonably being listed among the definitive generation titles. It sounds so consoomer, but that game could really benefit from a third version/paid DLC more than the average set of games. I think Arceus will age to have a reputation like X and Y, a fun and memorable but relatively empty tale of what could’ve been, with achievements that feel diminished by their better implementation in subsequent titles. If this game is the start of a new side series, I think some amazing things will follow, I hope that future entries feel more definitive. As it stands, Legends is a solid 7/10; great for the Pokemon series at large, but shy of being a valid contender for the God tier sliver of games. As much as it may make people seethe, I’d say it shares a tier with SwSh and SV just below the tier of the other games greentexted above.

I /am/ him, I was responding to myself to correct my mistake. My sole point was to give my thoughts on PLA in regards to the series at large. Anyone who buys into the “war” between PLA and SV is brain damaged and not worth factoring into the discussion.

          >SWSH
I prefered PLA to a few games on that list, but SWSH is the only one I can't make a valid case for. What exactly do you think makes it better? I'll admit that I haven't played the DLC, but I found it just a boring slog. Felt like SM 2.0, which was a slap in the face after it was hyped as the new game for hardcore fans.

It really is the DLC for me; I definitely could be biased from the fact that I only experienced the definitive edition, but the legendary quests and DLC wild areas felt really nice and like the first glimmer of what I always imagined Pokemon could be. Granted PLA and SV both blew it out of the water in that regard, but it doesn’t change the fact that it was a fun experience. I was getting really tired in the stretch between XY and LGPE, SwSh restored my ability to have fun with the games, I thought there were some fun characters in there, a solid dex, and a fun enough campaign with some great DLC inclusion that made it really feel like exploration for the first time since Unova. I admittedly don’t go looking for nor do I factor in fan discourse to my own experiences, so I was a little shocked to see how brutally people tore the games apart. Aside from cutting the dex (which was always inevitable in my eyes, especially approaching 1000), I struggle to see how the common complaints of that game are exclusive to that game. Like if you think SwSh has bad graphics I’m struggling to believe that you can sincerely think PLA has good graphics, you get what I mean? Pokemon is a series that’s always plagued by the same issues and held back by the same arbitrary limitations, and within that frame I found SwSh to be the first game I wanted to consistently keep playing after I started since B2W2, and that feeling of fresh fun has oozed into both PLA and SV.

never don't ever put legends arceus close to SV & trash SWSH -):

They are close to each other, history will remember them so, and so will you once you’re less immediately passionate and more objectively critical.

        >What level of cuck consumer puts these pieces of shit even near the same level as Emerald, FRLG or PLA?
Evidently I do, and while I’ll explain myself I doubt you’re interested in hearing me out. I already gave my lengthy SwSh take, but I might as well back up the other two. The 3DS was a horrible era for Pokemon, and USUM was the light at the end of the tunnel. I know there’s a lot of animosity towards genwunners, but I grew up in Pokemania, so call me a cringe consoomer all you want, I enjoyed the massive crossover of the Ultra games, it felt like the right mixture of fan service and original region; a vacation stroll through series history with a notable highlight in Kanto, for an original player it was the perfect end end of the series’ worst era. Traveling through space to battle aliens while Multiverse Giovanni unites all the villains kicks ass, and if you need me to justify that assessment then you have no joy in your life. The PLA vs. SV forced narrative really confuses me when they’re such similar games, I’ve been loving SV for the same reasons I love PLA. The overworld Pokemon interactions, the open environment navigation, the more interesting and personal storylines and character relationships. It’s saying water’s wet to say that the games have their bugs and flaws, but I seem to remember the trainer who can clip through ledges in Emerald or being able to corrupt Yellow into catching Mew, or DP into finding shinies; every game is massively fricked, GF are shit developers through every release, it’s as consistent as their good music. The sheer exploration and freedom of SV makes it a standout entry in the series and, again, you have to have no joy in your life to it concede that point. I’m not a blind consumer who praises GF’s every move, the entire 3DS era and both switch remakes have been garbage, I’m just unafraid to admit that I think they’ve been killing it in their major outings - SwSh, PLA, *and* SV all included.

Open world was fun but man it got boring quick. I didn't even finish the game because there was actually zero story to keep me hooked. Everything went like "omg! A wild pokemon is rampaging! Go stop it!"
And at one point, I think the fourth or fifth one, they didn't even give you a story reason to go -- the professor was just like "this area. Wild pokemon. Go."

  18. 1 year ago

You frickers lied to me when you said this game was good. It's tedious, empy and gets old fast.
I love trying to enjoy the world without getting attacked by every random shitmon they decided to make aggressive for NO REASON. It's like they copy pasted zelda without understanding that the games are fundamentally different even with this moronic taped together mess of a battle system. Every single time you want to engage combat you have to throw the pokeball or catch the Pokemon.
There's no way to heal your character even though you can heal your Pokemon from the menu. What kind of game doesn't let you heal your player character in combat?
All the characters are boring and the story sucks. This is actually the first game that I found myself mashing the A button to get through the story. And I played BW1.
Navigating this game sucks. Why isn't there a mini map? Why did you give the deer a fall damage of 10 feet?
Hope you like being underlevel because when you battle trainers you only get exp at the end, so anyone who died in the fight (and they will die) gets 0 exp. Why?

For arguments sake, lets assume it is one of the best games to date. Despite that, it sold less than a no effort remake (BDSP), that was developed by a third party. Gamefreak has no incentive to do another PLA, it takes significantly more effort and results in less profit.
