    >being so hard to program code on it must means that it is too powerful!!

Most devs at the time were barely utilizing dual-core processors. Writing thread-heavy/parallel code at the time was not in any game dev's workflow, which PS3 absolutely needed.

How do they still have this much copium? Who's supplying them?

We operate off the second hand copium from tendies having the switch replaced by the steam deck

I thought the cell had unlimited power?

Cell architecture is great. The chip itself is a joke compared to Ryzen or Sandy Bridge.

This. Around the time PS3 was new, mainstream CPUs were still lacking. This is why some government agencies leveraged PS3s, because commercial CPUs at the time sucked in comparison. Sandy Bridge was the first big break commercially, though Xeon CPUs were still top-dog.

Those agencies sold off all their ps3 after a few years of use, and likely spent some time collecting dust before being sold off.

I remember the navy sued Sony for the removal of Linux support, because they had a super computer consists entirely of PS3 running Linux

do you think those ps3s ended up like losing super bowl team merch, where it's shipped off to Africa for charity since it can't be legally used in the US?

Not really. They were circulated around quite well. People came out the wood works to snatch them pretty much lol. I recall seeing pictures of them on here years ago. I think many still kept the "property of US Govt" stickers on them. Keep in mind these were the OG fat PS3s, and A LOT of people wanted these specific PS3s regardless. The previous ownership was likely a novelty to many of these later owners.

No, it's literally the worst aspect of BULLDOZER "cores"

It never was. Using the same logic, you could probably also say that any random ASIC is better than an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X. Since ASICs mine Bitcoins so well...

When did this misconception begin anyways? When the US Army built a "supercomputer" with just PS3s?
