Consoles and mobile are dominating. Thoughts Ganker?
Will PC gaming go the same way as arcades?

What are you talking about? This was a question people were asking in like 2013 or something, but PC gaming is way more relevant again now.
at one time PC dominated consoles around the 80'a and early 90's. very similar to arcades
>PC dominated consoles around the 80'a and early 90's
Depends on the way you look at it.
PC games didn't have smooth horizontal scrolling during the entirety of the 80s, and if it was an arcade/console game more complex than a single-screen then it was never a good port when it got brought over. And the music? Almost completely non-existent outside of the title screen, you only got to enjoy sounds during gameplay. Yeah the NES and Master System shouldn't be capable of doing all that much but their strength lied in being dedicated machines with homogenized hardware, allowing developers to pull more from them than the IBM compatibles and other computers at the time.
It was a lot better in the 90s when once we started seeing 3D acceleration, sound cards, and CD-rom drives become standard components. It's also when you see the divide widen between the two ecosystems, because now the average PC could handle so much more than a console ever could during this time period. Keep in mind that it didn't guarantee the PC version would be the defacto best version (I shouldn't even need to bring up the various shitty PC conversions of console games in the first place because that's common knowledge at this point) but it did mean that the only way to experience a lot of games was through a PC.
>PC gaming is way more relevant again
Yeah, because everyone is able to afford these 3000 dollar GPUs and because their games will still stutter like shit because devs can't develop for fucking PCs.
PC gaming is dead, you're running on fumes boy.
What GPU costs $3000 and why would I pick it over a cheaper option if I'm just playing games and not doing 3D animation or anything like that?
console always dominated
thats been the status quo forever
>console always dominated
Since Pentium was released and voodoo 2 there was never a console thats not behind x86 PC in every way imaginable.
Console fags were playing Contra on Sega and SNES while PC players had Doom and Quake and Unreal.
Console fags were playing shit like Syphon filter on playstation while PC players had Quake 3 and Unreal 99.
Console fags were playing shit like call of duty 3 on the PS2 when PC players had FEAR.
Console tards were playing shit like Killzone on the PS3 when PC players had Crysis.
And guess what your console is now just a toy computer with a shitty AMD x86 apu.
It will never have entire genres of games that are exclusive to the PC.
Operation Flashpoint and Delta Force were so damn cool back in the day, Battlefield 3 too. I always laughed at console shooters back then.
>console always dominated
How was console gaming in 83? Because it was pretty good for PC.
The better question is will consoles go the way of arcades because of the influence and practices introduced with phone games and even PC games, the rise of streaming, xCloud and other services, the existence of PSNow and Gamepass as well as entries from companies like Amazon and a rumored Apple entry, and other things which render having a home console as novel at best. If anything the PC is more equipped to handle the future we're headed than consoles.
Phones I feel like will be fine though. People will probably be streaming PS and Xbox games on the phones sooner rather than later.
the switch is literally about to beat the ps2, consoles are not going anywhere
Nintendo is somehow in their own world that they've managed to successfully craft. Almost like they are effectively the Milton Bradley or Mattel of video games. Nintendo can get away with going back to cartridges if they want to and millions will buy their console just off of whatever out there idea they come up with to change up how we play games (Wii U being an exception since they butchered the marketing so bad). What keeps them going is that they aren't really doing NES -> Super NES -> Ultra NES -> Hyper NES -> Omega NES -> Super Omega NES -> Supernova NES etc.
If Sony comes out with a new console that uses that hologram tech they've been keeping behind closed doors for years and you can interact with the hologram, then sure. If Microsoft releases a home console that can read your movements 1:1 and allow you to use household objects as your weapons using Kinect tech and AI, then sure. I'm talking specifically about consoles as we know them. The ones were they have a standard, traditional controller with two thumb sticks, 4 face buttons, a d-pad of some sort, shoulder buttons and all the things on a "regular" controller where the big draw of the console is better graphics rather than different play experiences. The console in a "traditional" sense is on its way out I feel.
>The console in a "traditional" sense is on its way out I feel.
what about mobile/handhelds? hybrid consoles? i truly believe the hybrid model as a bright future.
> i truly believe the hybrid model as a bright future.
I agree. I think mobile, handhelds, phones, and hybrids are going to be fine just by their nature. They are wicked accessible, can fit into any part of the day even if just for 5 minutes to pass time, they can go wherever you go, their non disruptive, and a myriad of different things. The hybrid model is a good idea because of the options it gives to users. They can play on the toilet, on their TV, in the bed, at a boring event, in college, or wherever just a like they can with the phones, but can also play games MUCH better than candy crush or clash of titans. Steam Deck is on that path too.
I'm more interested in seeing what Nintendo doesn't with their next hardware. I can't see them going backwards to just being either a console OR a handheld again, but I can't see them just doing a "Switch 2" if you will. All this to say, I agree with you that handhelds, mobiles, and hybrids will be just fine. Of course all of this is just my own opinion. How do you feel about their futures anon?
>seeing what Nintendo doesn't
seeing what Nintendo does*
>How do you feel about their futures anon?
idk, Nintendo is hard to predict.
No. Desktop and Office is a home staple.
If you remove the home from earth, you will not have Christians on earth anymore. Jesus told you he is coming back to fix that. The antichrist is the one pushing for that and will be tortured in a firey pit called the lake of fire with brimstone and smoke and weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Yes, PC gaming is dead. Or dying. Still or finally.
For the 1000th time this week alone.
what purpose does making the graph 3D serve?
Is that why Sony is bringing their whole playstation library to PC going forward and why Xbox no longer even bothers with console exclusives?
That’s more due to modern Sony being run by incompetent businessmen and not people that actually know how the industry should run.
20 fucking years people have been saying this
20 fucking years has the pc market been growin
Fuck off and die
Shush, I want normoids to think this.
Imagine, all the wannabe-consolefags and big publishers leaving PC. All that'd remain is AA devs, indies, no nickel and diming. No "CAN THIS NEWEST GRAFIX CARD FOR $9999 RUN THIS NEWEST AAAA GOYIMSCHLOP?!"
Peace and quiet.
I used to be a PC gamer back in the day, but now that I'm raising a family I just don't have the time for configuring everything anymore. Consoles are a godsend as I select a game and click play. No worrying about settings, no manual patch installations, no need to worry about specs. It just works.
It's not 1998 anymore granpa.
Just admit you're too stupid.
at most that shit taks like 30 minutes if you are not brain dead
Consoles remain more expensive over time than a high performance PC over multiple console generations when built well. Consoles remain locked down glorified gaming laptops that have malware infested and bricked operating systems.
The players are entirely beholden to having the games played for them via QTE and aim assist with the standard of controller delay built in to account for sloppy normie and child input. They continue to have a place for the consumer that places value in brand worship and other ghetto rich practices.
What a stupid thread
