You are one of those types of autists that thinks that in game populations represent in-lore population numbers?
I used to think that more is better, but frankly that just tends to get annoying and I'm much more inclined to have less npcs around, and a bit less areas to walk around in if that means that other parts are well made. So no Megaton style stupid settlements, add farms and shit and explain how people survive. I can suspend my disbelief on the population numbers.

Because navigating Whiterun as if it as an actual city inhabited by thousands of people would not be actually fun.

Or, to add, might as well then make an Elder Scrolls game (or any other fantasy game) that is set in one city and maybe with few outskirts here and there, but increase the size of it to make it seem more ''real''. But then people will complain about the lack of variety in terms of environments. It's bad enough as is when we have settings and maps where you can just go from one climate zone to the next over a short period of time.

I guess, but I remember threads where people would use npcs numbers and races for Skyrim to say that as if it's accurate representation of in-lore Skyrim. So those kinds of autists exist here.

While I agree the population in the vaults being just a few families is very disappointing it would be far more important to make the vaults look less bland.
They could add a hundred more rooms but if they didn't make the vault look like a believable self sustainable bunker with it's own comfy little society it would still be bad. Technical limitations and lazyness always made them focus too much on the gimmicks and not on the fact each vault is supossed to work on it's own way.

You are functionally moronic if you think Bethesda lacks the ability to crank out enough content to make a Vault that's 10x larger than the present one. It's basically what Sundercliff Watch was, and it wouldn't be hard to expand Vault 114 into that by unlocking half the doors.
If anything, restraint has given them the ability to actually focus on making more varied and interesting dungeons. Converga Assembly Plant and Mahkra Fishpacking might use the same tileset, but the designs differ significantly.

It's not that easy. It's like you can have a bigger city with more stuff to do there but let's say that means that surrounding areas will be smaller, basically imagine if New Vegas had a bigger Vegas portion and smaller outskirts. Would it be worth it? For me personally no, but I guess if you wanted more urban areas than rural ones then it would be better.

  16. 1 year ago

3 always felt bigger than it actually was in the city areas, I guess the subways helped with that. A feeling that areas where impossible to traverse between on foot and the underground routes give that impression of distance.

I wouldn't at all mind if the vaults that have undergone some decay have implied more expansive areas that are just blocked off with debris or whatever. An illusion of depth is preferable to nothing at all.

When you actually look at the city areas too its rather small, but it helps that one part of it is a ring so it's like you're going around the city. DC is helped greatly by the subways

They give you the means to make a 100 person vault in the dlc don't they?

It would not be good game design to have a billion rooms that offer no function to the game experience.
And when it comes to the way Bethesda and their way of constructing game worlds, it's doesn't make sense to have a bunch of no named NPCs unless they're enemies or city guards.
Bethesda doesn't make Witcher like experiences where you have a city full off no named faces that can pop out of existence as soon as they go around a wall.

      >it's doesn't make sense to have a bunch of no named NPCs unless they're enemies or city guards.
Bethesda cities are full of random ass NPCs literally named Wastelander, Settler, Scribe, etc. Novigrad has 83 NPCs that can be interacted with (vendors, quest givers, gwent players, etc). Diamond City has 27.

What about Boston? How many NPCs can you interact with in that city?

Fewer than Velen. If we are going to arbitrarily count multiple areas as one big city then go ahead . The difference of course is that Bethesda games have an extremely clear, black and white boundary as every single mini area has a loading screen blocking you from the outer region, whereas in The Witcher 3 you can walk from Triss' house in Novigrad to the Crone's Hut in Crookback Bog without any loading screens. So yeah, the entirety of Velen > any Bethesda sub-area. GG

I don't think classifying an actual city that exists as a city is arbitrary. Perhaps look up what words mean before you use them .

              >bethesda has to separate boston into a hundred sub-areas divided by loading screens
              >still has fewer interactable NPCs and quests than cdpr's one major city that takes up 10% of one region that has zero loading screens separating anything
not even the guy you're replying to but you aren't really doing a good job defending bethesda here, if the argument is that bethesda needs to downsize the scale of their cities to accommodate having "actual npcs" how did cdpr manage to fit more of them (and more content overall) in one of their regions without even resorting to radiant quests?

I just thought it odd anon did not consider a city that actually exists a city for reasons.
I think the numbers are off on purpose. Between Diamond City, Goodneighbor, and random anons like the guy that sells you a credit card and calls you a moron the number clearly tops the 87 anon quoted from his yardstick.

I have just started another play through of fallout 4 and I just noticed that the only character they tried to flesh out was Kellog during the brain sequence, and while it wasnt perfect it wasnt a bad attempt to bring depth to a character. The sad thing is it shows Betheada can do it when they want they are just fricking lazy.

And still after all these years it pissess me off how the institute doesnt go to the glowing sea to kill virgil even though they have fricking synths.

Standard Vault compliment was 5000 people. I assume that's 2500 male and 2500 femboy.

Not even Fallout 1 or 2 could convey that.

Reminder Vault 101 canonically had the capacity for 1000 people, the numbers just dwindled since 2277 and we never see all those empty rooms
