There were hundreds of threads with people crying how the game is too hard because they tried playing it like an FPS. It's not for geniuses or anything but brainlets were filtered by this game hard.
Nah. I think I just wasn't in the right mood when I played it. I genuinely wanted a prey sequel and then just couldn't get immersed in the world and the different gameplay. Couldn't be bothered to get into it. In all honesty, I can see how some people would like it, but it didn't quite click with me at the time and it's now tainted. Been thinking about deathloop though, heard many good things about it. Thoughts?
Haven't played it but probably because of reasons similar to yours for not liking Prey. I saw it was too much of a departure from Prey which was my darling and didn't even bother.

waah waah fricking waaaah
Prey 2006 was dope as frick, and Colantonio was pissed as frick they got forced to use the name by execs.
part of the reason he left.
one main reason was he wanted to avoid vitriol from turbo homosexuals like you who shit their pants and scream due to it having the same name.
This. The mimics were a great idea too. Until you can scan them, there’s always the risk of one of them just flying out of nowhere into your face.
Also I loved jumping and floating around everywhere once mobility was maxed out along with the propulsion chipsets. The game did a great job with giving the player really satisfying mobility.
like a sequel to 2006 or 2017 prey? nope, bethesda will probably recycle the title again though
I find this is the opinion of people that just run and gun straight through the game and finish it as fast as possible
No, or anything like it probably. Colantonio is gone and he was the driving force behind this masterpiece and Arcane's immersive sim design. Death Loop showed the studio is weak without him and I expect things to continue this way. Prey might be the last great immersive sim
seems to be the case but i haven't played weird west or deathloop
No, or anything like it probably. Colantonio is gone and he was the driving force behind this masterpiece and Arcane's immersive sim design. Death Loop showed the studio is weak without him and I expect things to continue this way. Prey might be the last great immersive sim
This. The idea that good games can all be credited to one guy is idiotic. The rest of Arkane's staff definitely pulled their weight when it came to Prey.
Weird West was mediocre and very half-baked. That they're planning to support it with free updates and have an entire roadmap like it's some live service game really turned me off from Colantonio's studio. Just move on and find your strengths instead of making derivative content for a weak game.
Are you are fricking moron? He specifically did NOT want to use the name Prey. It was forced upon them. It's a huge reason why he left, they were being micromanaged too much. look it up, I won't spoonfeed some hyper-gaytard
I really don't understand the hate for D2. It was a step down from 1, sure, but people make it out to be an abomination and I don't see how it's that much different from the original. It has some of the most memorable levels I've played in any video game ever. The Clockwork mansion was a masterpiece of level design.
It's not terrible to play, it just doesn't work as a sequel to 1. Graphically impressive but in being so impressive it ditches the stylized visuals of the original. Humans look more like humans and not vaguely ratlike as they did in the original. Story wise it doesn't feel like a tale that needed to be told. It's too specifically Dishonored when Dishonored's plot is trying to be somewhat universally applicable in it's commentary. I also vastly prefer both the writing and voice acting for the Outsider in 1. Yeah the clockwork mansion was bretty gud.
If Prey got a similar sequel it would ditch the schizo themes of identity and paranoia in favor of a standard chronological sequel plot with typhon Morgan or some other Yu family member.
Yeah I agree that story wise it didn't really have to happen, and the Outsider was done much better in the original, everything from his design, writing to voice acting. I'll be honest I don't really remember much because I wasn't really invested in the plot, I was just aching for more Dishonored gameplay and level design and I feel it delivered on that front.
>I really don't understand the hate for D2.
It was a recycled game. The plot is exactly the same from the first game's DLC, the time travel level and the shape-shifting mansion level does not excuse this.
Yeah, I don't think we were looking for the same things in the game. As I just replied to another anon, I really wasn't very interested in the story to begin with, I was just there for the gameplay and levels both of which were almost as good as D1's.
The main problem is that it should never have been a direct sequel. The first game and its DLCs wrap up Emily and Corvo just fine. It should have been the start of making it an anthology series instead.
I remember recommending this game to a friend and he was literally too stupid for it. He kept dumping bullets in enemies and complaining how they're all bullet sponges and the game is too hard even on normal mode and how he can't find good loot. This is your average gamer and the reason games like Prey can't succeed despite already being dumbed down compared to their inspirations.
Play the fricking DLC, Prey Mooncrash, it is the fricking shit
> Solves the base game issue of swimming in resources by being a roguelite
> Solves the base game issue of being OP by splitting your powers in 5 differents chracters which you need to play by their strengths and weaknesses
> Incentivizes fast paced gampley by imposing a time limit
> Randomized hazards on each run
> Forces you to use other typhoon powers
Fricking play goddamit, Prey Mooncrash is what you play after mastering Prey.
>roguelite/roguelike
If I see this tag on a game I immediately close the page. Personally I don't see the enjoyment in starting over and over again with nothing to show for it
Yeah like I said I'm on the same boat as you. Never could get into it. I love Prey and see people praising Mooncrash all the time but I just couldn't get into it
Prey main game was so good I thought mooncrash must be amazing the way people talk it up. In the end I Think I went through each character once and never went back on it. Just repearing that tiny moon map over and over again sounds like an awful time
Yeah mooncrash is a lot of fun, but it can be pretty nerve wrecking too. Also I imagine that once you finish it, a second playthrough wouldn’t be anywhere as fun or desirable.
>Also I imagine that once you finish it, a second playthrough wouldn’t be anywhere as fun or desirable.
True in my case even though I enjoyed it thoroughly. If the entire layout of the base were more random I would want to go back.
I feel like I'm getting filtered. I'm too afraid of wasting resources so I don't bring anything at the start of the run but end up getting raped due to not having weapons. I hate when roguelites have pre-run planning.
Prey was a 10/10 but Mooncrash was a swing and a miss for me. What I liked the most about Prey was that you can take your time exploring and there's no time limit. I would always get to corruption level 5 with multiple Nightmares chasing me before even finishing my first character's escape.
Playing this game and then following it up with the Cyberpunk anime really activated my almonds. Stories about human beings trying to push their bodies and minds to disastrous limits are always based.
>Unfortunately this genre is synonymous with financial failure.
It demands complex design in spite of having a target audience the same size as bullet hells. The cost of producing games has only gone up. Unless some based billionaire decides to fund them it might be toast.
Best we can expect is that some fans will put enough autism to make indie immersive sims and find a profitable niche by compromising on production values.
Here you go.
Don't sleep on Ctrl Alt Ego, very open ended and slick in terms of resource management. You can highjack all sorts of systems and bots using a single pool of resources, so the game is all about taking risks and finding the most efficient solution. Think Deus Ex lockpicking and hacking vs Human Revolution. The demo is very substantial.
I will never understand people who hate this game because it wasn't the Prey 2 they wanted. Bethesda tacked the name onto this project, the original Prey 2 concept was already abandoned, it's not like Prey 2017 was responsible for Prey 2 not happening. For all intents and purposes they had nothing to do with each other.
The title for forced on the studio by the publisher, Bethesda. People directed their hate at the game and Arcane who were just caught in the crossfire. It's unfortunate really, I would have preferred a different name for the title but it doesn't take away from it being great.
Shit move. I guess I hated it and understand everyone who hated as well, did you play it only because of the developer ? I just find it hard to relate since I had no other context apart from the name.
Then it shouldn't have been called prey, What's so hard to understand ? Different markets
Who is moronic enough to something like Prey based on the name?
I could maybe understand someone being surprised buying a Call of Duty game and getting a RTS and even then it would prove moronation not to check beforehand.
In the case of Prey even a cursory glance at a screenshot would have instantly dispelled any notion it was a sequel to the 2006 game.
Man, you're some sort of modern genius then. COD games come out almost yearly, that's why you expect the same or almost similar experience, but prey2017 was too different (and long after) from the original for your comparison to be fair
The comparison is not trying to be fair, it was an a fortorio argument. I could understand someone being flustered by COD not being the typical stuff because there have been 20 of them released yearly.
When Prey released in 2017, the other Prey was 11 years old, unknown to most people, a distant memory for the rest, and the game was a one off. There was no reason to think someone using the name "Prey" was making a sequel (especially when it didn't have a number or subtitle, just Prey).
Fortiori, not fortorio. Would need to see where that is being shown as you said quite a few things.
I think there was a lot of hype when the name came up, at least from my friends and myself. It's not like they were aiming for your kids to play the game, so there was some context for the game, and your argument about the screenshots is pointless as it could have perfectly been a sequel. >take it nice and slow first time, going over every inch I can, doing everything, saving everyone, killing all the monsters I come across >haul ass the second round, kill everyone and ignoring my void bros
If it had better enemy variety, noncombat was a bit more viable, and wasn't named prey, 2017 would be one of my top games ever.
Yeah the game definitely has its fair share of weird bugs and weird design here and there.
>include a menu that stores all of the documents you have picked up and read >stores them in order of discovery >no way to organize or filter them >have to scroll through them one by one and hope you don’t miss it
Prey 2 gameplay footage sucked. >hide behind a chest high wall… but in first person >press X to kill everyone on screen with ebin missiles >target waits for you to kill mooks, runs into another room, repeat
This, System Shock 2's character were more memorable because they had something worthwhile to say, but the "personality" that comes from Prey characters are mostly emails or schizo-audio logs I genuinely don't care about.
Your russian cripple-not-gf was probably the most interesting because she actually has ties to "muh ethics on the station" and half the station is Russian shit anyways
Everyone else besides Alex is a fricking lesbian or monkey. And it doesn't even matter because the "important" characters aside from Alex are just Operators anyways
I didn't give a shit about her or her relationship with morgan that means nothing because neither of us have any memory of it. She worked as a foil for Igwe and his ruthless utilitarianism, which was far more interesting to listen to.
I wasn't saying she worked because "muh weak relationship that's barely even fleshed out" since that only exists to keep driving the idea of "muh idea of a true morgan doesn't exist"
I was saying she barely works because of the "muh dad did bad things and was going to get killed anyways but '''''volunteered''''' to get murdered" trolley problem allegory x14324, and how that segues into her arguments with Igwe that only sometimes actually plays out in your office.
Genuinely wish it wasn't such a fricking chore to get them to play their dialogue out, half the time Igwe would break and play his normal cycle of idle dialogue.
it was pretty funny hearing them constantly interrupt themselves with generic dialogue packages only to go right back to the conversation after
that and the fricking ear rape sound levels, I swear any time someone was talking I had to leave the room because they were always pic related no matter where in the room I was standing
To be fair, it’s a space station full of world-renowned scientists— the fact that 90% of them were ugly ass Russians and pajeets didn’t seem too far fetched.
>tfw prey 2006 was a great game >tfw prey 2017 was better yet shouldnt have been called prey
we got 2 amazing games named prey, both have nothing to do with each other. that being said, prey 2017 beats prey 2006. not that theyre comparable in anything but name. but prey 2017 is amazin
>all the Arx Fatalis references throughout the game put in by developers who still wanted to do a sequel but were never allowed to and have since left
No chance
I went into this game blind, only knew Arkane made it. I was so pumped about the Utopian san fran setting.
Then it got weird fast, first time I shit myself playing a game in so long after smashing the window in your apartment and realizing you're on a space station
yep, was enjoyable, got me poopy scared in the first couple of hours when i was walking around trying to figure out everything. i think they needed to add more monster variety honestly, and tone down on the crafting/materials
yea but it will be a mascot platformer
Frick, not another prey thread. This shit was boring as frick anon.
Anyone reading this, avoid this game like the plague, go play anything else
You are a pleb with bad taste.
Arkane seems to get worse with each release, this was their magnum opus and will likely not be topped.
Oh frick off mate. Shit was boring, still wish had gotten an actual prey sequel
You're probably too much of a brainlet for this game
not him but the game is basically for turbo brainlets
there's health and repair operators everywhere to restore any damage you take

It was a flop and lead designer got a bad burnout on trying to make an AAA imsim.

not todd...just my honest thoughts as a video game enjoyer
Every single character apart from notGaben sucked. It felt like they ticked a diversity box with the rest.
To be fair, it’s a space station full of world-renowned scientists— the fact that 90% of them were ugly ass Russians and pajeets didn’t seem too far fetched.
>tfw prey 2006 was a great game
>tfw prey 2017 was better yet shouldnt have been called prey
we got 2 amazing games named prey, both have nothing to do with each other. that being said, prey 2017 beats prey 2006. not that theyre comparable in anything but name. but prey 2017 is amazin
Zoomer
>all the Arx Fatalis references throughout the game put in by developers who still wanted to do a sequel but were never allowed to and have since left
No chance
I played Arx Fatalis after Prey, what exactly are the references? It has something to do with the D&D campaign doesn't it?
Fatal Fortress, the game the lesbian kept gushing about
favorite song?
FeMorgan Yu is a QT
opening song was a funny contrast to what the game involved
>spoiler alert; everything was not going to be ok
I went into this game blind, only knew Arkane made it. I was so pumped about the Utopian san fran setting.
Then it got weird fast, first time I shit myself playing a game in so long after smashing the window in your apartment and realizing you're on a space station
yep, was enjoyable, got me poopy scared in the first couple of hours when i was walking around trying to figure out everything. i think they needed to add more monster variety honestly, and tone down on the crafting/materials
There was a soundtrack?
loved prey and dishonored, deathloop on game pass should i try it
HOLLYYYYYYYY SHIIITTT SEQUEL JUST ANNOUNCED
🙁
>will we ever get a new mediocre System Shock rip-off
Hopefully never, you tasteless homos have had enough.
Hey!
The System Shock Remake is coming....
Maybe? I think? Next year for sure.... right?
>IP count didn't go up
Didn't Mick Gordan do the soundtrack for this game as well?
yup
Yeah, but the Mind Game (alarm clock song) and Semi-Sacred Geometry (Crew Quarters fight song) was composed by game's Lead Designer as well.
No chance. And even if we did by some miracle get another prey game, they'd fill it with nogs, trannies, and other woke shit. Frick Arkane.
>Will we ever get another Prey?
What do you mean? They make terrible games all the time.
I was wondering while people shit on Prey for being "boring" here of all places, but there's a Call of Duty nostalgia thread going right now so yeah.
