Halo 3 was made in 3 years with different biomes for every single mission and infinite was made in 6 years with one biome and essentially one set of textures for the entire world. Of course they're not the same, halo 3 mogs infinite in every conceivable way.
What's sad is that Halo 3 while looking this good was designed to run on an xbox360, the game is more than 15 years old, designed to run on gimped hardware and still mogs some new games in the current year.

I don't think I'd put it that way, but I find the sweat of the average hard-core infinite player to be smellier than most.
Nothing has come close to the fun factor I felt playing Attack & Defend on Calypso Casino. Every few rounds we'd play "Michael Myers" to unwind. I'm still fucking mad about R6 Patriots getting scrapped

Halo CE was great for it's time but it didn't bothered to actually grow and evolve the formula. It got stuck gnaeplay-wise and Bungie just keep adding multiplayer features until they got bored and left. Even CoD has changed it's formula radically several times.

Doom has no jumping, no vertical aim and is about keeping distance from most enemies stronger than a Pinkie, dodging projectiles, cheesing hitscans and killing waves of enemies like it's a SHMUP as you explore an open ended map with lots of backtracking.
NuDoom is about fighting enemies in arenas and jumping around all over the place while shooting the enemies as fast as you can and using pinatas to keep your health and ammo up.
They play nothing alike and the later is literally just Quake 3 with enemy types.

You've never played Quake 3. There is barely any focus put on map pickups, you just get everything back from killing enemies. Quake doesn't have Doom 4's ADHD weapon switching, and Doom 4 doesn't have any movement tech. Eternal has some tech, but it's mostly just spamming dash and abusing the grappling hook.

Nu Doom controls, handling and moment speed are identical to Quake. The linear level design is also way more in line with Quake 2 and 4. The enemy design comes from Doom, but the enclosed arenas and weapons with two modes comes from Painkiller.

I was there when Xbox had a reason to exist that dethrones every other option, when good deathmatch finally escaped PC and made its way to console. For nearly a decade after, magazines touted the question of "Is this the Halo Killer?", and it never was. Know why? Because Halo was a step forward that can't be repeated. Timesplitters was great fun, Killzone was strong for its time, Medal of Honor was good, even great in some entries, but there's no denying that Halo was the beginning of a massive paradigm shift in console shooters. Nothing else had the power or prestige. Anything confined to the PS2 or Gamecube was held back by the limitations of local MP or pricy, hard to source add-ons. PC shooters were still going strong, but their heyday was fast approaching as well. Halo, for good and ill, defined a generation, set a roadmap for every major online shooter (with campaign) to follow, and changed everything. It can't possibly be replicated, because the market conditions will probably never exist again. I've been a PS/PC guy my entire life, but I can't deny the power that Halo exerted over several console gens. The closest anything came was MW2, and only because it was this massive multi-plat thing that crowded out any competition, but it's numbers still dwindled dramatically in the face of a new Halo title.

You've never played Quake 3. There is barely any focus put on map pickups, you just get everything back from killing enemies. Quake doesn't have Doom 4's ADHD weapon switching, and Doom 4 doesn't have any movement tech. Eternal has some tech, but it's mostly just spamming dash and abusing the grappling hook.

You have to play it with high quality surround sound headphones in the dark to fully appreciate the effort iD put into setting the mood. Even the jumpscares are well crafted. I was there when Xbox had a reason to exist that dethrones every other option, when good deathmatch finally escaped PC and made its way to console. For nearly a decade after, magazines touted the question of "Is this the Halo Killer?", and it never was. Know why? Because Halo was a step forward that can't be repeated. Timesplitters was great fun, Killzone was strong for its time, Medal of Honor was good, even great in some entries, but there's no denying that Halo was the beginning of a massive paradigm shift in console shooters. Nothing else had the power or prestige. Anything confined to the PS2 or Gamecube was held back by the limitations of local MP or pricy, hard to source add-ons. PC shooters were still going strong, but their heyday was fast approaching as well. Halo, for good and ill, defined a generation, set a roadmap for every major online shooter (with campaign) to follow, and changed everything. It can't possibly be replicated, because the market conditions will probably never exist again. I've been a PS/PC guy my entire life, but I can't deny the power that Halo exerted over several console gens. The closest anything came was MW2, and only because it was this massive multi-plat thing that crowded out any competition, but it's numbers still dwindled dramatically in the face of a new Halo title.
