    Fuck no.
Not even the best Witcher game (That'd be #1), and none of them are even top-10 material.

What is your top 10? I am curious now

It has good content and assets and is in that sense very highly meritorious.

In terms of mechanical design it's appalling, beginning with the most foundational issues (say, the very decision for it to be open world is misguided: it's fine for there to be large open-ish areas like Novigrad, but the "open world" in between them exist solely to house superfluous pseudocontent that's unthematic to boot and the game would be better without it) all the way down to details like how the game controls, or balance (say, since there's no scaling, signs at higher difficulties and levels tend to do something like <1% of enemy health in damage, the exceptions being e.g. burn caused by Igni because it's percentage-based, but that brings up another bizarre feature of burn chance talents being literally useless because a sign build is going to have 100% chance to ignite anyway... it's a total clusterfuck). The original Witcher actually DOES exhibit some good novel designs (like the alchemy system), although I'm not praising it to high heavens for anything but atmosphere either.

Whether it "deserves" "GotD", who cares?

Lol no. Witcher 3 is not a video game. When was the last time you heard someone praise the gameplay of Witcher 3?

You do realize literally every RPG (JRPGs too by that extension) have absolutely abhorrent gameplay and are praised for other things (story, choice&consequence, writing)? You really think people finished Planescape Torment and said "yoooooooooo, that combat was fire no cap, on god"

Right, DnD system is just bad (certainly when adapted to video games) and a combat system using it is doomed to be mediocre at best even with a good implementation of said system. But in case of PS:T specifically, it manages to dodge the bullet by being very combat-light, while having good exploration, non-combat use of character-building systems (e.g. skill checks), etc, in addition to really good atmosphere, nice-looking pre-rendered areas, and good although overrated writing. I wouldn't hesitate to call it good in terms of mechanics/"gameplay" (the interactive bits) because the bad part (combat) isn't the focus. On the other hand, I would call Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale bad, because they don't escape their combat. And this is looking a very narrow subset of RPGs, I would argue plenty of them have stellar "gameplay" (NetHack for instance).

          >ut in case of PS:T specifically, it manages to dodge the bullet by being very combat-light, while having good exploration, non-combat use of character-building systems (e.g. skill checks)
Literally none of that is good gameplay, you're literally clicking on a relevant dialogue option (Witcher 3 also does this).

You brought up the cope "bad gameplay" argument. By definition, RPGs have shit gameplay.

At least witcher 3s combat, boss fights etc are significantly better than the RPGs listed while also having dialogue depth (unironically more Choice & Consequence than Planescape and i've never been proven wrong in this regard). You also went this route:
          >, in addition to really good atmosphere, nice-looking pre-rendered areas, and good although overrated writing. I wouldn't hesitate to call it good in terms of mechanics/"gameplay" (the interactive bits) because the bad part (combat) isn't the focus.

Which is just laughable as it is ironic because everyone of those elements get attributed to Witcher 3 all the time. You can disagree, but in your initial post you said "When was the last time you heard someone praise the gameplay of Witcher 3?" which would then make me respond with "all the time" if those are what you constitute as gameplay.

Didn't take long for you to debunk your own initial post did it.

Yes, it's a great game filled to brim with sovl. The expansions are incredible as well. Just the fact that nuGanker seethes so hard at it is simple proof that it's good game.

I also find it impressive how a single game basically caused a renaissance of slav folk music scene.

Witcher 1 has the best soundtrack of any game ever and I don't give a hoot if you disagree, it oozes so much soul it can cure aphantasia.

    Yes.

Not a single one of its aspects are the best of the decade, but it is easily the most consistently high-quality for each of them.
Its worst feature is its combat, but even that is fine.

It wouldn't be my pick, but I'm still fine with it since my pick sure as shit isn't for everyone.
    For me, it's Rust.

not at all. witcher 3 is mmo shit trapped in a single player game with decent character interaction, as far as combat gameplay is concerned it is easily the worst one.

Witcher 3 is definitely the best RPG game ever made, no one doubts that. If you don't care about the world, story, and characters then you are sadly missing out. It's like if someone hates pizza. They have to live life without that and there's nothing they can do about it, it sucks.
