No lol
Same if they called sekiro tenchu
If they did the games wouln't sell as much and the fans of those series would go "nu kings field is fucking trash, go back to slow first person and shit combat and remove summons/invasions"
Good lord no. I'm one of the gays who will sing King's Field praises till the end of time but there's only 500 of us and in terms of financial success that would've secured From Softwares place as a "nobody cares" developer.
I disagree but still love the series. Kf4 is undoubtedly the best one but I still prefer 2 and 3. The music that plays at the start of 2 when you awake from washing up on the shore plays rent free in my head.
I don't think it's the best either but understand why it's the "easiest" KF for newfags to get into. Which one do you like the most and why? I'm curious.
Redpill me on 4, is there something I'm missing? I tried it some time ago and it was fucking sloooow. Stamina regenerates at a snail's pace so every single enemy is a slog to fight. I don't remember 2-3 being that slow and even then, Shadow Tower and Eternal Ring came before, both of which where like a racing car compared to KF4. I also never relly got interested in the world and what little lore there was, which is pretty sad because KF2 and especially 3 had really good worldbuilding.
>be me >parents buy me a playstation >some reason they buy me kingsfield as my first game >never bought me a memory card
You have no idea how bad it can get
What do you mean "stayed niche" ? Do you mean it as if Dark Souls had been different, or as if the rest of the serie following DS1 had been different ?
Because you have to understand that DS1 was a niche game when it came out, it's success came at a much later stage. It was kinda like Mirror's Edge or Mafia 2 where the appraisal was retroactive and the fuckers who first missed it jumped on the wagon years later and realized it was actually good.
But was the rest of the serie garbage ? Yeah. And they should have stayed niche in this way imo.
>female companion that guides you >lose currency on death but the game continues >npc battles that are just player characters >multiplayer >left and right arm customization >deep world explained through contextual text (emails, item descriptions >focus on atmosphere and contained level design >good music
Souls takes way more from Armored Core than King's Field and everyone who talks about King's Field is a secondary hipster gay.
Well it's supposed to be the thread where we wonder what the series would be like if it was still niche and not very popular, but apparently Ganker can't read because 99% of the replies are saying "uhh how is King's Field better???"
Fuck your cred, kingsfield is better because its an actual Rpg and its combat is deeper than roll spam
Soft caps in DS RUIN the game, who the fuck thought Soft caps in an RPG was smart
It's not like the souls games were ever truly niche to begin with. Demon's Souls got a cult following pretty early on and Dark Souls definitely became popular pretty quickly as well. I do wonder how Fromsoft would handle a new King's Field if they decided to release it, my hopes would be for it to mostly just play how 1-3 play. If anything I think the biggest downside we'd probably see from a new one would be a more generic soundtrack.
How do you fuckers define niche ?
Is it just the number of players ? Is it relative to the genre, to the platform, to the era ?
Is it the innovative aspect of a game ? Again, relative to what ?
Kings field was a fucking weird game sure but at the time, so many weird games were out, genres were not as defined and the low productions costs kept devs more free to experiment and take risks. Relative to this context, is Kings Field a niche game ?
What about DS1, were there games like DS1 when it came out ? There were a few trial&error types of games but not that many, and one with such a weird story, depressive mood and complexe and free level design, no way. And in the expensive era it came out, I'd say DS1 is more niche than Kings Field, as in it took more risks relative to its context and dev cost.
Now, did DS2 and 3 take as many risks ? Well I don't think so at all and they even got the formula worse somehow imo so for sure, serie should have stayed "niche".
>How do you fuckers define niche ?
number of people bought it played it >Is it just the number of players ?
why did you ask if you know the answer >Is it relative
no, at most there's a slightly lower bar for popularity >Is it [thing that has nothing to do with being niche]
no >Relative to this context, is Kings Field a niche game ?
who cares
it's niche becuase the amount of people having played those fucking games when they came out is tiny
literally the only reason you are talking about it now is because the studio blew up more than a decade later and you starting wikiing their library >What about DS1,
Is not niche, it sold like a million copies before it even got DLC/PC port, which is the point people consider it blowing up.
Demon's Souls was niche, but it built an audience and reputation that paid of with DS1.
It's more relative than that Imo.
Stellaris is a huge financial success for paradox with millions of sales and players yet it's till considered a niche game in the overall gaming sphere.
>What about DS1, were there games like DS1 when it came out ?
maybe rengoku: tower of purgatory? it has a similar level up system (use currency adquired by killing enemies to boost stats) and a severe punishmet for dying, losing all your equipment. akin to losing your souls, but you also have the chance to go back and had a little chance of recoving something by fighting a clone of your previous build
>DS2chud dumping xis folder for the 8 billionth time unpromted
when are you going to violently end your own life on stream
it's not, it's one of DS2chud's schizoid copes based on flimsy and generic parallels
though I have seen other DS2fags try to claim muh KF legacy, which somehow makes therr shitty game better?
(and nobody can call the bluff when they do it, cause nobody played these games)
>Best gameplay and most unique mechanics out of any Fromsoftware dungeon crawler >Great dungeon design >Fantastic atmosphere >Lore just vague enough to allow for theories but explicit enough to avoid Zanzibart-like shit
>Best gameplay and most unique mechanics out of any Fromsoftware dungeon crawler
It has..............dismemberment. That's it.
Gameplay is the same. >Great dungeon design
nope otherwise I would have kept playing cuz my standards aren't actually that high >fantastic atmosphere
How? There no ambient sounds. No music playing. >Lore just vague enough to allow for theories but explicit enough to avoid Zanzibart-like shit
I don't see any Shadow Tower Abyss lore channels................................................................................
>It has..............dismemberment. That's it.
Yeah, it has dismemberment, a core mechanic which changes not only how you approach challenge, but also the very way you control the game. That's why it's the only where the went gigabased and took inspiration from Ape Escape for the controls, so you attack with the right stick. That's why you have interactions like beheading a bird but it still lives and can attack or you can shoot at its wings in midair so it falls to the abyss >nope otherwise I would have kept playing cuz my standards aren't actually that high
Seriously? Not even gonna try to back up your claim? >How? There no ambient sounds. No music playing
You're just lying. Sure, there is no music, and if that is good or bad is an entire different discussion, though I personally don't mind. But there were ambient sounds. The sound you hear when you enter the tower nails the alien atmosphere perfectly. The roar of that one boss you hear for the entire level and literally scares all the enemies there is a big stand out. The different insect sounds in the termites level too. The game in general just looks amazing and encapsulates the feeling of a place that makes little logical sense perfectly. Atmosphere is not only about the sounds, even though the game has great sound design, but about all the other good things like lighting, enemy design, the look of every dungeon, etc. >I don't see any Shadow Tower Abyss lore channels

KF4 no contest >lore
Lore is inherently Retarded dont care
Abyss is a bad KF game, i think you are even SLOWER than KF4 especially when you attack or aim your walking speed gets cut, this never happened before.
They also fucked up the repair system, costs dont scale any durability damage makes you pay the full price, combine that with the very early hp regen items and smartest way to play is to idle your hp back repair 2 things then repeat.
Abyss was the start of Fromsofts decline that continues today
Just to be clear Lunacid is the only game doing what King's Field and Shadow Tower did right now right? That being true is sad. But it's not a huge fanbase so oh well.
Jumping is literally a superpower in the world of KF and ST.If you just give it to the player it breaks the game. I'm being nice and not mentioning the tranime shit that completely ruins any atmosphere the game is supposedly trying to emulate ,the fact that your character isn't a faceless entity in the inventory screen, the actual responsive and pin-point cawadooty accurate fps tier controls and the fact that the developer for all the boasts of 'being a fan' of the series and trying to make a 'spiritual successor' of it is failing to understand basic shit that made it memorable in the first place.
KF with a jump would rock especially a floaty jump where you are locked in the direction you started in. Imagine the tense platforming or jumping over enemy swipes
No lol
Same if they called sekiro tenchu
If they did the games wouln't sell as much and the fans of those series would go "nu kings field is fucking trash, go back to slow first person and shit combat and remove summons/invasions"
Most likely yes.
I mean there are only 2 souls games that are actually better than any KF game, and even then it's kinda debatable for 1 of them.
Good lord no. I'm one of the gays who will sing King's Field praises till the end of time but there's only 500 of us and in terms of financial success that would've secured From Softwares place as a "nobody cares" developer.
It would have taken longer to turn into an i-frame spergfest but it probably would have eventually got there anyway.
king's field is better then any soulsborne
I disagree but still love the series. Kf4 is undoubtedly the best one but I still prefer 2 and 3. The music that plays at the start of 2 when you awake from washing up on the shore plays rent free in my head.

That's rough
I don't think it's the best either but understand why it's the "easiest" KF for newfags to get into. Which one do you like the most and why? I'm curious.

It's the best because it's on PS2 and has better than mindblowing graphics.
damn
I was speaking entirely towards how it looks. I think it actually plays worse than 2 or 3.
Stick up for your own standards noob.
You're rude but I'll happily bump a KF thread despite that. I thought I was clear but you don't like to read much do you.
I'm just being Gordon Ramsay so you'll reach your full potential.
Nobody cared about these games. Even OP and this gay only know them through Dark Souls
>you can only acknowledge KF if you first played it in the 90s and don't know what dark souls is
Pfffffffffft. I know about them because i'm an Ultima boomer chaddar.
Did you catch that? Yeah. That's right boy. THE ULTIMA UNDERWORLD. Now sit down.
actually just kidding. I only played ultima underworld because king's field and only did play king's field because dark souls haha.
>be me

shut up bitch play something else or suck my fuckin dick
Everything one shots you in Kings Fall. How is that fun?
100%. The series would still have SOUL and not be filled with 60 fights with four phases each
*boss fights
Accidentally deleted "boss" somehow oops

Uhhh actually. Demon's Souls was way more niche before Dark Souls was less niche........
Cool story bro but we're not talking about Demon Souls
We are now. DeS was more niche and you wasted your time typing. Aahhaha lol
Is this the thread where we all pretend King's Field is some hidden gem of a game that's better than Souls for gamer cred?
Only if it brings you resentment.
DaS3 killed souls for me and i finished KF last year and thought it was very fun and aesthetically pleasing.

What tf the fuck where they thinking when they decided Shadow Tower didn't need a soundtrack.
nip earholes are slanted so they constantly hear their father's disappointment and don't need music
I didn't mind. Eventually. But I agree a quarter of the joy of King's Field is it's soundtrack setting the mood.

why do so many gays here pretend soulsborne games are shit and that they're too good for those games?
They're all kino. I watched the youtube essays so i'm the authority figure for you.
soulsbourne games do suck. King's Field 4 is a huge blackpill on that series. Really shows how uninspired and low budget the souls games are.
