Wtf is wrong with me? I cannot find ANY enjoyment in video games anymore.

Wtf is wrong with me? I cannot find ANY enjoyment in video games anymore. Just fired up my PS4 for the first time in a while and downloaded a few games in the subscription Catalog that I've always wanted to play. Made it about 20 minutes into each of them before getting bored and moving on. I have no patience for gameplay any more. I just want to turn my brain off and destress but video games just don't do that for me anymore (I have more luck with books and playing music, ironically activities which should demand MORE patience. What's the go?

Bullshit, I downloaded Blasphemous, Slime Rancher, Bloodstained ritual of the night, God of War, Stellaris, Horizon Zero Dawn, Bloodborne (only one I remotely got into but bored now) All huge games with loads of content. I'm just bored SHITLESS.

Do you consider page-count a plus when buying books? Do you consider run-time a feature in movies?

Maybe you should be after vision rather than 'content'. Imagine going on Ganker and saying you aren't feeling it anymore because you keep trying and failing to read super smash brothers fanfictions.

Books and music don't demand patience, they demand investment. Do you really want to turn your brain off, or are you actually put off by how little video games tend to have going on?

Have you tried playing sharper, start middle and end games with strong reputations? What were the games you played? If one of them was Horizon you should just have a nice day.

Horizon was a fkn JOKE. Woke, a big open empty world full of things I don't care about, dumb ass robots, dumb characters who say dumb things. Just no substance, no soul. Nothing to suck me in. Horizon was probably the most boring on the list.

Dead Rising got a PS4 port. I also loved The Evil Within. Both games are far more intelligent than they got credit for.

If by "intelligent dialogue" you actually mean long-winded indulgent israeli soapbox moments just go watch Aaron Sorkin movies.

i think you've realized that almost all games are shallow and boring
If i want to be engaged by a game I fire up a fighting game, play a few matches for half an hour, proceed to quit game
I also play card games now, it's very chill and relaxing despite the need for some brain power
that's all I can say really, what you're feeling will likely never go away, you've come to a realization that will likely affect how you see games forever

It sounds like depression is an unnecessary step in explaining what we used to understand as unhappiness, and because it's unnecessary people get confused.

                Anonymous

Depression is more than being simply unhappy though. It's the feeling of not being wanted by anyone else, the feeling of being useless, thinking that you don't matter, lacking confidence, being lonely and not believing you can achieve the same things other people achieve.
It's a lot more severe than being unhappy for a few weeks because your dog died of old age.

              >cure
That suggests an explicit and objective physical or physiological ailment to be corrected, which is not what depression is if you actually press anybody on it.

Again, you aren't using a definition of depression we couldn't change out for unhappy. You just dislike that term because you like the respect and prestige that come with 'depression'. "no but I was BEYOND unhappy, it was DEPRESSION".

True, you may have a point. DS, SNES, PS1, PS2, N64, PC, GC and Wii had a massive variety of games/genres to enjoy
Today you need to find some really obscure indie titles on RPGmaker to replicate this randomness I feel

You could get bigger and better novel games, truly *new* experiences, before 2008 than you can now. Anything with a greater than indie budget is some moronic agribusiness game-like product made for third worlders and tv sport watchers. In 2006 we got Dead Rising.

This is likely one of the oldest questions on Ganker. People have answered it before, but here is a quick rundown.

Despite what Ganker says, video games are fun. But playing them as your main hobby for extended periods of time will drain you out, because you aren’t “accomplishing” anything. Not trying to insult you, it’s true from an objective standpoint. The human munkee brain was not evolved to be stagnant like this.

What you need is to step away from the games for a period. In this time, take up a new hobby that actually allows you to see physical progress. ( Playing a whole song on piano, drawing a whole picture, and if you must stay in the realms of games, coding a whole game )

You don’t need pills or a psychiatrist. Your brain is naturally telling you the problem. Much like anxiety walking home at night keeps you on alert for predators, boredom in your hobbies signifies it isent enough to satisfy your brain anymore.

Just don’t buy a 2k VR setup it hopes of refunding the magic. Can verify from multiple people it dosent do jack shit.

              >accomplishment

because youre not strictly unhappy when depressed. thats also why a lot of people dont realize they are depressed. they figure cause they still enjoy some things somewhat, laugh sometimes, smile sometimes, and whatever, that they cant be depressed. cause all they know about depression is that its something that randomly happens for no reason and makes you hate life and want to have a nice day

Stop looking for new experiences, very few games are actually worth it these days. Just replay old titles you used to love and try to do things differently than how you did back then or restrict yourself to add some form of challenge. You might rediscover games you liked under a new light. Gaming is fricking dead

Counterpoint, the problem is that most games are made under reactionary sensibilities and the problem is that there are so few truly new experiences. 10 random games made before 2008 will probably contain more variety than all AAA games made after that date. In the west at least I sincerely think this would be true.

It’s probably you now treating playing vidya as an obligation rather than fun. Take a break and do something that’s fulfilling or benefits you in some way like a hobby.
