Xbox gyro

What are the odds Microsoft fricks this up and the new controller still doesn't have gyro? It should be getting revealed soon so time will tell.

All I care about is for them to eliminate stickdrift.

Already busted beyond help, that trash dpad, lmao.

THEY FRICKED IT UP, the usb xbox360/pc controller was perfect, they should've just adapted that design and added the improvements and made a Ghz connection with usb-c or something input.

Why did stick drift suddenly become a problem this generation? Never had a problem with stick drift, but had 2 pairs of joycons drift on me. Didn't have that on the Xbox controllers either, however I haven't tried the DS5 so I can't speak to that.

because all 3 of the console manufacturers decided to buy parts from the same company that makes shitty parts in order to keep costs down

        Anonymous

It didn't suddenly become a problem, games back then had huge deadzones built in to mitigate the problem with stick drift. Nowadays you can adjust your deadzones down to 0 which means more people are running into stick drift.
For the case of joycons you have tiny sticks made as cheaply as possible so it's inevitable they're going to malfunction sooner or later.

        Anonymous

Shit prototype components made with with graphene
Also old controllers had a shit ton of drift but they were smart enough to have the controller reset themselves. It's also why if you boot up a PS1 while holding the stick in a direction it will be fricked up until you unplug it

        Anonymous

The chinese, everybody buys sticks from the same shitty chinese company Alps. Funnily enough sometimes other manufacturer's sticks do slip into newer controllers and they just don't drift, or at least not nearly at the rate Alps sticks drift. You can tell it's an alps stick by the green potentiometer boxes

ADD MORE BUTTONS TO DEFAULT SETUP
Console game suffer because abxy is simply not enough. There should be at least 6 face buttons like on genesys.

      Anonymous

I could advocate for three back buttons, just four regular buttons since you could play with claw grip and have access to all of them with ease. No need for stupid pedals that hurt accuracy with face buttons because you have to perfectly in a sensitive manner press the face buttons to not press the pedals.

Sadly they'd need to fork out extra to license some of the Corsair/SCUF patents.
That's why the Steam controller is no more, and why the back paddle/buttons are only on the (first-partt) 'special' controllers/accessories.

        >Today, SCUF Gaming’s® innovations are covered by more than 120 granted patents and designs, and another 50 pending patent applications that protect 4 key areas: back control functions, trigger control mechanisms, thumbstick control area and handles, and side action controls.

        How?
The xbox original controller had the black and white buttons.
        Just reintroduce them.
And don't tell me the dingle ass 30 dollars power a controllers with back buttons actually use their patent. Well it could explain why their so shitty.

          Anonymous

SCUF (now owned by Corsair) created a ton of patents on buttons and paddles on the back of controllers since they sell third-party controllers with them.
They're broad enough, and there's so many of them that anyone who tries to make a controller will have to license them, or they could get sued.
The Steam Deck might get around this since it's technically not just a controller (although they could have just licensed the patents).
These patents are the reason why the only 1st party controllers from Xbox/PlayStation that have back buttons/controllers are the increased priced 'pro controllers' since the increased price account for licensing the patents, or an external accessory that attaches to the controller since this bypasses the patents.

Microsoft actually owns the patents for back buttons, they gave them to scuf/corsair to try and financially damage Valve

I don't know, considering they squat on the patent for buttons on the back of a controller just to prevent anyone but chinks who they can't sue for making them, I could see microsoft being homosexuals and chaining the entire industry down for what's basically one of two major things you could do for standard controllers.

Can't you not even use gyro in the PC version of COD because it thinks steaminput is cheating software?

  26. 2 weeks ago

Gyro never took off simply because consoles didn't care. Every single ps4 game with shooting should've at least had the option in the settings but instead only like 3 of them used it. It's a great thing when it's done correctly but most devs don't bother. They put it in the Metro re-releases for switch and it felt amazing but then Exodus didn't have it on consoles and to activate it on PC you had to use Steam's settings. So most people don't try it out. It's basically just been ignored for the past 8 years for no real reason.

      Anonymous

      >Gyro never took off simply because consoles didn't care
No the issue is the short bus kid refused to put gyro in their controllers because their input scheme started as an attempt to monopolize controller hardware on PC, and their system hadn't had it when the other two have had them standard for nearly 20 years. So most developers don't plan anything around them.

        Anonymous

        I don't think that's the reason.
There's no reason why they couldn't have just provided it on the PS4/5, like how CoD: BO: Cold War had the haptic + adaptive triggers for the PS5 version of the game, and that was a crossplay enabled title, so there wasn't a reason why they couldn't have done something like that for the PS4's dual-shock controller.

          Anonymous

          >There's no reason why they couldn't have just provided it o
You're a major developer with deadlines to meet, do you
          >Make platform specific features that aren't mandatory like something like the Wii would necessarily demand you to do additional quality assurance to ensure these features work well and potentially invite platform owners like microsoft to get pissed at you and enact punitive actions against you
          >Make things as standard as possible to not piss platform operators off for "disenfranchising" their userbase and leave it as the "good enough" as it has been for the past 20ish years.

a big part of the problem is that everyone but nintendo is afraid to force it on by default. all it would take is a big shooter like COD having a short forced tutorial for it like splatoon did, and everyone would get it.
these days COD and fortnite support it on any platform that supports gyro controllers, but it's off by default, and most people never think to use it.

i'm sorry to hear you were filtered by wii sports 20 years ago, but gyro aim is nothing like it. if you actually like playing shooters you'll like suddenly being able to aim worth a damn on a controller. give it a try sometime.
if you have any device from the last ten years but an xbox, as i would hope anyone on Ganker does, you can download fortnite or COD for free and try gyro aim in them.

iirc CS2 launched with a gyro scheme as default and people immediately b***hed at valve to change it. It's probably the only way you'd do decent against other keyboard players but because the 360 era cemented the way shooters have to move no one wants to bother with something different.
