        REMINDER
Harem ending is just a meme based on an interpretation of Rex's body language rather than explicit confirmation.
All three kids have the hair color of their mother and Rex is stooped over all three seated girls because Takahashi wanted it to be vague and open to interpretation who Rex got with.
It's a whole different story if all three babes had the same hair color as Rex, like Noah's CONFIRMED son shared the same hair color as his dad.
Nia not once confirms she married Rex or that Rex is Mio's father.
Takahashi is a fricking pussy that wanted to please everyone and it backfired.

And how exactly does the quest having very little to do with Sena herself elevate it to the top of your personal character ascension quest ranking?

              Anonymous

The comment before mentioned the city being under direct threat and because in spite of having barely anything to do with Sena, the quest itself was pretty strong. Painted Shania as a more tragic character with her horrid mother, had two poignant scenes with her dad and at the remembrance stones and the boss fight was fun.

          Anonymous

Apart from Sena's quest telling us nothing about Sena, it's kind of an interesting quest on its own to fight in the city and see it threatened directly. Though, it also makes no sense because how the frick would Shania know where the city was?

Is farming mats for X gems tedious in this game too?

      Anonymous

      Yes.
Unless you really NEED to have all X rank gems, most people will only get 1 or 2 at most, and that's by buying them with 99 gold coins rather than the mats.

      Anonymous

Most X gems only take around 40 minutes of material farming, could definitely be worse. That said, some of the recipes (like Steel Protection X and its 30 Auxilia Exo-Armor requirement) are outright moronic and you're better off spending 99 gold coins on those. But if you don't care about minmaxing, just spend those coins on Analyze Weakness X and be done with it.

How do you manage to have trouble in Elpys, holy shit. The game outright tells you like 3 times in dedicated cutscenes that Poppi isn't affected.
And I still went with Rex anyway, at the same level as the overall area, and didn't have any problems.

They take away upgraded Specials only, meaning you can't unba bunga Chain Attack with orbs. You shouldn't even need to use Chain Attacks against regular encounters. Just spam your Arts and Lv.1 Specials as quickly as possible. There's nothing hard about it.

I refuse to believe that anybody played XB2 and didn’t think that Rex wouldn’t end up with both Pyra & Mythra. You’d have to be utterly delusional to think otherwise.
The only “shocking” part was Nia also being there, and even that wasn’t incredibly shocking if you can pick up on context clues and stuff like the NG+ screen.
Honestly, I’m starting to think that the only people who were freaking out about it were secondaries and tertiaries who had no context, namely Smashgays.

It's less freaking out and more it's a funny meme. If you included a picture of Lightning from FFXIII being gangbanged and impregnated by Snow, Sazh, and Hope in the main story of another FF, I'm sure that would get shitposted to hell and back too, but it wouldn't say much about FFXIII being popular.

I mean let's be real the initial plan wasn't for Nia to be included in Rex's harem.
That's why they only added that NG+ screen after months from launch.
That's why in Rex's dream sequence he was happily married with Pyra and Mythra, and only saw Nia as a desperate b***h that really wanted to frick him.
Takahashi saw the hype for Nia and decided to make her part of Rex's harem. It couldn't be clealer.

It probably is, a good harem is when the protagonist is the most interesting character because you can definitely see why the women involved choose him.
Rudeus from MT is a coward but interesting, Rentarou from 100 kanojo is a very nice lad, Rex is a wet socket.

1's mechanic barely matter anon toward endgame, and game has enough stuffs to do already, even encouraging you to actually do positionals on dps
          >but muh early game
early game 2 sucks too so its not a factor
3 pretty much refined 2's system, down to classes that actually matter, niche gameplay setup like fmj dodgetank dps, and toward the end it doesnt devolved into spamming elemental combo with wiggle dancing without caring about what you are actually pressing
The way chain attack evolves throughout the game is much more fun too
          >struggle to just do a simple 3-4 turns
          >then optimize it with hero lineup
          >then optimize it around the now available launch-smash setup

            >and toward the end it doesnt devolved into spamming elemental combo with wiggle dancing without caring about what you are actually pressing
No, it just devolves into unzipping lucky seven and winning in 90 seconds or less. The blade combos are fun and full bursts are satisfying once you crank up enemy HP in the difficulty settings

              Anonymous

lucky seven has the problem of aggroing tho, so you have to build around it to actually not die after the few second of invulnerability
it also open another route of gameplay both outside and inside CA aka SHINING EYE OF JUSTICE but even more hype
Elemental QTE is fun to look at but after a while it really pulls you out of the flow of the game

                >you have to build to not die after losing invulnerability

have the actual troubadour is a demerit tho cus aside from ring of rose and glittering melody its crap, and you are better off tossing ring of rose on medic gunner for more offensive power
its better to toss glittering melody on your main tank and pray that it syncs

Playing through 2 now and it's great. Fast and snappy with zero downtime. Having combat actually be relevant to chain attacks is nice, and the chain attacks are done in a fraction of the time.

          Anonymous

chain attack time is almost the same anon, 3 only inches up some 10-20s

3's suck because they hinge on RNG not hating you and refusing to let you select your hero's Order

You're doing something wrong if you absolutely must have your hero's order to do obscene damage.

Still, there's literally no downside to using the hero order since it's free. Needing to wait for rng to give you permission to use it is crap

lucky seven has the problem of aggroing tho, so you have to build around it to actually not die after the few second of invulnerability
it also open another route of gameplay both outside and inside CA aka SHINING EYE OF JUSTICE but even more hype
Elemental QTE is fun to look at but after a while it really pulls you out of the flow of the game

                >so you have to build around it to actually not die after the few second of invulnerability
You just turn on Ouroboros and start spamming Origin Sword

I love the colony quests more than the average side quest in 2, I love how the relations between colonies changes whereas the relations between nations in 2 was more static (understandably so but still)

But the ending makes all side content feel like a waste of time. Torma had this problem too but at least you were aware of that going in.

Yeah, sort of. But you don't know that going into the side quests themselves. Also, you can hope that the memories you made will carry over when the worlds separate.
I wouldn't be surprised if the story DLC this time around was a more direct continuation, using the same clear-game save file and carrying quest progress over

Miyabi also says that she heard Mio's melody all the time. So that tune indeed crosses space as long as you direct it to someone.
Oh, and Crys in the same quest says that every offseer melody is unique as it's shaped by the feelings of the player.

I don't understand this idea of "nothing we did mattered".
This is the 3rd game where we've had some kind of world-reset at the end yet in the previous ones we all udnerstand that our efforts still bear effect even if the world's not the same as it was before.
The whole point of the post-credits scene is to show you that even if the actual events were undone, the memories and feelings are still carried on in some way

Because the previous games had you creating a new world that your actions influenced. What feels off to me about 3's ending is that the world resumes from this already existing point that we know nothing about and cannot influence. Shota Noah and Eunie and Lanz are all people we don't know with experiences we don't see, but they're the ones left at the end, in a world we don't know. Instead of creating something new, we've put things back into their place, but it's not ours to begin with.
I thought the ending was going to go for an actual world-reset into something new. I don't know if that would be logically satisfying, but it'd be more emotionally satisfying.

I dunno. I like the idea that eons and eons of a fricked up stasis event, happens between one moment to the next while lil Noah is staring at the town clock (by his and everyone else's reckoning.) It basically makes it so that 3 is its entirely own thing, set apart from the rest of the series (and normal tiem flow,) and no one will ever know any of it ever existed. It's probably one of the most "hard sci-fi" a game has ever gone, if that was the intent.

In the after-credits I would have had the scene cut to black immediately after Noah says "I just zoned out for a moment." Would have been kino.

I disagree. The plot runs out of steam and the best part of the game, the party interactions, are absent from the main story after you meet the Queen. I didn't need grander sci-fi (even though it would've helped Z be more interesting), but I did want some more character moments that were sorely missing.
Origin itself just feels half-baked. Compare it to the final ascent of the World Tree, there's much less going on.

Its not like the crew of 1 and 2 didnt just rush toward the end without much inter character interactions anyway, its the nature of the final stretch, and you had to rely on side H2Hs for some banters

As good as that stuff is, it doesn't involve the main plot and that's my biggest complaint with the ending. Even if everything else were exactly the same, if Z had no plan and there was still no zero threat, the ending could've been salvaged for me if all of the characters, while waiting for Mr. Samon to upgrade the engine, had a quiet moment to discuss how beating Z would mean splitting the worlds and never seeing each other again. Just a little melancholic conversation, talking about what they had to do, what they were going to lose from it, and reaffirming their determination. Maybe one last tender scene between Noah and Mio, who are now clearly in love, awkwardly trying to avoid confirming their feelings for one another because they know they can't be together in the end. One scene like this would have changed the tone of everything, and really would have made the emotional beats of the actual ending sequence hit with their full impact, as well as vindicating the post-credits sequence.

i know its not in the main story, and it totally should, but its discussed in the final "a key to the future" quest in the city about the city's own Homecoming. They came to term with their inevitable death in 2 years, yet still wished everyone the best, and vow to live their last years to the fullest and leave their mark upon the world. They understood there was no further future, yet still embraced it
and imo with that context it makes the ending even more tragic, with them, now free from their limited lifespan, had to come to term with their separation, but still with a deep hope of meeting each other again/acceptance of what they had to do
i really wish a couple of these quests became mandatory so people wont miss it before going into origin

                Anonymous

That quest was great but that was about their lifespans and not their separation. It's different, because they didn't get to choose their lifespans, whereas the separation of the two worlds (which really should've been explained better by Nia) was a choice they were making. It's the decision that should be hanging over the entire end of the game, but it doesn't because nobody gets a scene where they get to talk about it.

                Anonymous

I don't entirely get why the planets separate at the end, anyway. Like... initially, they were going to collide and do a bunch of anti-matter explosions like the annihilation events, right? And that's the fear for both, in that they're going to die if they do nothing, so they made Origin to store their souls in for safety.

But then Z freezes time at the point of collision practically, and they kill Z and stop that endless now. But the planets just peacefully drift apart, no problem? Like, wouldn't it just resume with the crash?

If there was no actual threat of the planets colliding, they could have simply not made Origin and nothing bad would have happened at all.

For some dumb reason it's only really explained in Nia's post-game quest, but the point of Origin is to recreate the two separate worlds after they annihilate. Which I agree is very unintuitive and isn't explained at all until after you already beat the game which makes the ending bewildering instead of emotional.

That's really stupid then, because she doesn't hint at it at all in her initial explanation, when her and Melia are talking about it just basically being a big SSD for their souls.

Also really dumb because recreating two entire universes without even having the Conduit is way beyond anything they've ever done.

I completely agree. It's both dumb and convoluted. I have no idea what Monolithsoft were thinking because had that been explained beforehand, the ending would've been a million times better.

I think part of my frustration with this whole setup is that the new worlds that get created aren't new, they're somehow just the worlds before the merger. So it's like the entire ending sequence where they're running towards each other is this symbolic thing that doesn't really happen because at some point along the way it's all reduced to an echo of memory and the actual reality we're left with is shota Noah.

If they had the technology to store all their souls perfectly and then recreate two entire universes in separate locations that they weren't initially in, why didn't they just make a machine that changed the trajectory of either universe to not head on collide in the first place? They had the same time constraints either way.

It's no use thinking about this kind of stuff too much, but if you want, you can say that Origin is a machine powered by the matter/anti-matter annihilation's energy.

                Anonymous

that sequence is likely entirely symbolic/in their psyche since you definitely cant see the 2 worlds from where Aionios is, it being the center of it all
doesnt change the ending much tho imo, the separation is still as real as it get

The cast of 3's probably the best in the series for actually throwing every H2H-esque scene into the main story and voicing it.

My only issue is Sena is terrible as a character, and Noah is Cold Steel Rean-tier boring without them even trying to make up for it with interactions. Like I can remember Taion's interactions with just about everyone, or Lanz's, but I can't think of a time that Noah had a 1-on-1 conversation with anyone in the party but Mio and Lanz (almost exclusively focused on Joren). The closest he got was him+Mio teasing Taion. Dude doesn't even talk to Eunie and he grew up with her.

The final ascent of the world tree in 2 is just dangling the carrot that's been there the whole game, but when you get past Amalthus there's not much to it at all.

Malos is nowhere near a credible threat to the party. The Architect doesn't do much in his interactions with the party, neither does Elysium itself provide anything of note to the world. Just incredibly flat on tension or resolution.

You think Malos isn't a credible threat because of the story, I think he isn't a credible threat because his character design makes him look like he should be named Brick Squatthrust.

What about the part where Malos gets control of a fleet of giant robots currently blowing up the world?
Not to mention the rest of this stuff which is again, what the frick. It's like the highlights of the entire game.

                Anonymous

The giant robots aren't a threat to the party though. Like they are right there, at the off switch, with the only resistance to them being someone they've handily beaten the shit out of multiple times before, with the party being stronger than ever and the villain having less support than ever.

I still don't think meeting with the Architect did much either. It just gives Rex an understanding of what's the deal with the backstory of the world and to cheer the Architect up, but as far as if he actually needed to interact with him, nothing was really gained from that nor was anything given to Rex that drastically developed his character at that point. Elysium also is just abandoned.

Beyond being a natural endpoint based on their initial goals, the only thing about any of the post-Amalthus section that's important is to make Malos cut it out with sending random robots killing people. Everything else would've been the same regardless.

The ending was fine, it was just everything between the beginning of Chapter 6 and that. Origin really just needed a few scenes with the characters talking to break up what is otherwise a very linear segment. I think that's what was great about 2. Everyone kind of lets their heart out about what they'll find, why things are the way they are. At that point in 3, they knew nothing about Z and only barely anything about Origin. They still don't really know where Z, Y and X come from. Things like that could have made the experience of Origin better. Hell, even the Ferronis. They are supposedly made in Origin, maybe do more with that than a throw away line.

Otherwise, you really just moving to finally see Melia, and then your just making your way towards the end. Thankfully the fight was good and I'm always a sucker for "Here's all your friends coming to help you" in an RPG.

For me I hated everything about Gormott. The color grading was bad Horrendous, actually. The first open field is loaded with creatures, which wouldn't be terrible if not for the fricking lvl tags plastered all over your view. Same goes for Torigoth with all the obnoxious head tags, and any high-pop town, really. Points of interest were unbalanced as frick, as the one and only reason you'd ever go to the ENITIRE other side of the titan's back is to see Tora's uncle in his one shack, then do fricking fetch quests for this butthole. Frick all of that shit.

XC2 is way better in hindsight, when you’ve learned what makes the characters tick and what’s really going on with Alrest and the Architect. It’s also surprisingly subtle; the issue of land (titan) shortage is never explicitly addressed as a problem caused by Amalthus lobotomizing, “cleansing” blades.
A blind playthrough can definitely be disheartening. Jin literally goes full Coldsteel the Hedgehog in Chapter 1. The combat is terrible before you get Morag and Zeke. The characters are cringe in a bad way, and the voice work got better in the lategame.
XC2 really benefits from being replayed more than any of the other games.

Good for you, then it means you're never affected by fillers in anime or shit. I kind of envy you.
The very problem with chapter 6 and 7 is theyr're filled with fillers. Really, if you cut out the filler (Miyabi and Crys namely), it's :
      - You liberate Nia. Finally! Also cool, surely I'll get to know what the frick is going on. Welp, too bad, this Origin shit out of nowhere, but not an issue, surely I'll get to know more in this chapter and the next ones
      - Go find PlotConveniencium metal to upgrade the ship
      - GOTO:Origin
      - Liberate Melia. Surely I'll know what the frick is truly going on this time. Oh, okay, that's what that Z guy is. Meh. Also, how did you even get captured again, you stupid bird? How did you let that while shit happen?
      - Z "it amuses me"
      Fin.

Wouldn't have hurt to have, at the very least Nia's quest as part of the main story, so we get to know about the world separating beforehand. Which would raise concerns for our party, as they'd wonder if it's right for them to choose a future at the expense of the future of others (namely, the City folks). Not to mention the City inhabitants, at least the Conservative, that definitely should be getting into play in the main story, as surely they wouldn't just stand and agree to disappear.
There was so much to develop in those chapters, and listening to the "we want better sidequests REEEE" gays was a mistake. If you can only allocate money to (1) develop your main story or (2) make sidequests, and not both at the same time, then you should prioritize (1). Otherwise, you get what was essentially XCX.

        Anonymous

XCX was the best though. Their sidequests were significantly better for the world, because the introduction of new alien races to NLA and the resulting clash of cultures in new quests that unlock was way more interesting than liberating colonies that remain mostly to themselves.

          Anonymous

Though, that being said, Origin is kind of pointless if you want to bring physics into the equation, because I'm pretty sure that much energy being released would be enough to boot up a new universe anyway, it all has to go somewhere, it can't just result in an oblivion of nothing.

About a year, just like they're projecting for this game's story DLC. It's hard to say, though. Monolith pumps games out pretty fast, even XC3 was pushed up from the expected release date.

If they had the technology to store all their souls perfectly and then recreate two entire universes in separate locations that they weren't initially in, why didn't they just make a machine that changed the trajectory of either universe to not head on collide in the first place? They had the same time constraints either way.

Yeah, and entire fricking universes are being recreated. If they can do that, how is that easier than just changing the course to avoid collision?

This is like the solution to two cars head on crashing is for the drivers to get flung through their windshields and land safely in a new car instead of just having one get in the other lane to avoid the crash.

It's that the ending isn't satisfying, that the emotional moments don't land, that the mechanics are explained in the post-game only after it happens, and that we're left resuming from a world we have no connection with. You shouldn't have to be logically convinced that what you did mattered, that every person in existence getting latent PTSD from 1000+ years of miserable existence is a good thing, that the souls of the City denizens we like will just be somehow alright in the grand design of the universe. Because post facto rationalization isn't going to save the ending from feeling disappointing.

Noah and Mio are pretty special in that they had a noteworthy love that transcended incarnations.

But the grand majority of people (even Noah/Mio included) will have memories of 1-10 year chunks of boot camp and wars, capped off with their own death in war, and then another 1-10 year chunk of boot camp, war, and their own death, for thousands of years.

considering Miyabi, Ethel and Cammuravi only remembered their previous reincarnation, it is safe to assume that will be the case for the rest of the characters too. Yes? Your quote and your text don't align with each other. Anybody knew from the very first trailer and its cover that XC3 was a direct consequence of the experiment. You don't need "muh conduit or muh Alvis or muh lore" to that end. Now the question is, does it really end the trilogy? We resume the game 0.1 second after its opening sequence.

        >Consodering black fog appeared in FC, it seem like the process started a little bit after Klaus and Zanza died.
Black Fog acts nothing like what we've seen in 3 though. Corruption of monsters while boosting abilities while also making monsters control others are completely different from what is simply annihilation fog.

I'm only halfway through Chapter 2, but this game might already be better than DE. The characters and writing aren't quite as smart, but it's the best looking Switch game I've seen, the gameplay is satisfying, there are already overt callbacks to XG, there's a lot of non-battle mechanics without feeling overwhelming, and the map and character design is the best of the 3. Only thing it really fails so far is none of the OST yet has matched 1 or 2.

No one’s really shitting on 3? Most people like all the games.

It's why I've been hiding all 2gay posts since 3 came out. Anything they say is meaningless typical contrarian nerd bullshit.

why were all Machina women in XC3 such disappointments?

They were beautiful and exotic before Homs reduced their culture with their Western Homs ways.

If both XB2 and Torna show that everyone on Alrest has cloud sea nanomachines in their cybernetic DNA, how did Mio get pregnant with Noah if he would be completely organic

The nanomachines just recycled the matter of the earth, anon.

We see how their DNA looks in the final chapter and beginning of torna, it's nanobots with core crystals inside, even Klaus mentions that the cloud sea bonded with the crystals.

xc1 homs and entias are technically made of ether, with homs having a much lower concentration and distribution
so yea both worlds fricking would produce some interesting stuffs indeed

This isn't true technically, the entire universe is made of ether, but this has to be true for the XB2 world too because the thing exists there.

I think the answe simply is that Takahashi doesn't care anymore and he wanted Xenoblade to be over

    Should I play 2 before I try 3?

      sure

why does this question seem to come up so much.
Just play the games in release order

Especially when literally all 3 games are on the fricking Switch.
We’re not even in 2020 mode where finding a physical copy of XC2 required getting lucky on eBay or ritualistic sacrifice.

I’d say yes but it barely affected my enjoyment of the game except for one reveal after Chapter 2.
