Does anyone know if the minimum height versions of tall characters have better looking texture / resolution / whatever the frick looking armor than their taller versions?

Does going bigmode stretch it out and make it look like piss? Does bigmode make the textures for some armors look worse? My favorite sets are from ShB and Eureka but I usually play dwarf so we don't have any real armor problems like the biggers do.

      Anonymous

Race height variance isn't enough for textures to look noticeably better or worse when comparing min height to max height
Roegadyn and hrothgar by extension suffer the most from texture stretching, SOMETIMES elezen as well

        Anonymous

So would a min height Female Hrothgar have less stretching / look less like shit then even if it's only by a small amount?

        Every little bit helps.

You'd struggle to notice much of a difference at all between the two, by "you'd struggle to notice" we're talking "you need a magnifying lens on both of them in a side by side comparison to notice one extra jaggy on the taller female"

            Anonymous

Well that's good enough to go max height everything for me then.

God I wish viera could wear eureka / law's order helmets, I much prefer rabbits to giant furry cat ladies.

Yep, that settles it. FFXIV is still the best MMO and it’s way better than WoW. FFXIV makes me cry every time I play it, it’s just so sad with all my favorite husbando G’raha and being a WoL. This game has literally changed my life and it is SOOOOOO much better than Dragonflight. Have you seen the state of retail lately? Anyway, 7.0 is just an eepy and comfy beach episode before the real expansion in 8.0, and honestly? It’s great that we’re having both, but the game is already perfect as-is. It made me cry so many times (RIP SOKEN) and I met so many good frens to play other games with. FFXIV is such a good game, everyone loves jerking off and we even have Mare and Lovense paired so we can J.O. while we cry at cutscenes. Then we just go play other games since FFXIV respects your time.

I assume the chair has to account for big races like Tauren to sit on it. Although a giant bull man sitting on a teeny lawn chair would’ve been hilarious, but Blizzard is too soulless to let an idea like that go through production.

It does when it fricked up the pacing because they had to jam the planned Garlemald stuff in, and when it fricked up the plans for Zenos and left him jammed into a finale he didn't belong in. But you're right, there are other much bigger problems with 6.0's story.

Its been said 100's of times but EW really should have been: 6.00 dealing with Garlemald, dealing with the tempering, warping up ancients, etc, while 6.XX should have dealt with the end days, blue bird girl, final final battle with zenos.

should i cheat in fall guys bros

We did deal with garlemald and it was the most kino arc in EW. Stretching it out over the entirety of 6.0 would make it overstay its welcome and water down the important moments

what was kino, the whole arc was

            >we go to the capital
            >they are already 99% defeated holding out in one tower

Zenos should have been killed in the Garlemald expansion. He doesn't belong in Endwalker at all, certainly not the finale. Zenos's whole point is that he's exactly like an Ancient. He's indolent, apathetic, and completely obsessed with one singular goal at the expense of all else to the point that once he accomplishes his goal his next thought is to kill himself because there's nothing left to live for. He is an Ancient in every way. If his mindset was a refutation of the Endsinger then the Ancients never would have fallen in the first place.

No he literally the exact opposite of the them. Where as Acsians were were a people of civilized, pragmatic, and over all empathic people towards their fellow man, Zenos gave quite literally no fricks about anything or any body, and the only person that so much remotely stokes any kind of emotion in his is you, the WoL.

              >Where as Acsians were were a people of civilized, pragmatic, and over all empathic people towards their fellow man
The Ancients were emotionally dead zombies who thought it was strange and uncomfortable on the rare occasions people actually loved each other. Also, Zenos is also highly civilized, educated, and pragmatic.
              >Zenos gave quite literally no fricks about anything or any body, and the only person that so much remotely stokes any kind of emotion in his is you, the WoL.

Aether overwhelms dynamis, and the Ancients can use dynamis anyway. Hermes CREATED MEteion. Elidibus fights you by spamming LB4. Zodiark merely existing blocks Endsinger's despair attack.
If Elidibus had known Endsinger existed when he was in the form of unsundered Zodiark, he could have flown out there and killed her in 1 punch.
                >b-but the only way you can reach the endsinger's nest is by having people explode themselves into dynamis pathways to walk up
Zenos just flies up there as Shinryu and punches his way into her pocket dimension, and Zodiark was 10000x stronger than him.

They could influence dynamis, that's not the issue. They couldn't have done it because they didn't have the emotional maturity or strength of will. When presented with the option to strive forward and accept that bad things happen, they refused and wanted to retreat into a bubble. The primary morality of Ancient culture was avoiding discomfort.

I think that goes against the themes of the game because it condemns the Ancients because clearly, the end of their society is inevitable so we should simply let it die. Nevermind that's the same case made against the Sundered, who were given more opportunities to make similar mistakes, and the Ancients clearly have an almost Scion-equivalent number of important people capable of acting different than the behavior their whole race is condemned for.

Feels stupid. We may as well have let the sundered be rolled over if we truly believe the Ancients were hopeless when we know on an individual level that's absolutely not true, and to judge a race as a whole for it is always shitty to do.

That's because EW's story is, on the whole, extremely stupid. I enjoyed its message in broad strokes terms, but it's very clear the writers were not bringing their A game, because as soon as you start getting into the weeds things get really dumb really quick.

I'd really say only Heavensward otherwise suffered that to any particularly significant degree. Stormblood and Shadowbringers both had narratives that leaned into the themes and delivered fairly strong messages.
Heavensward tripped over itself a lot by making basically everyone associated with the Ishgard Orthodox Church an insane cartoon villain and trying to play things both ways with Nidhogg and the chip on his shoulder, where one minute they would be writing that he was insane with rage but every other minute being all "oh but maybe he has a point," and it just came off as really preachy.

The worst you could say about Stormblood was that it was dumb everyone was so invested in keeping Yotsuyu alive when she was a heinous monster and Shadowbringers had some boring parts, but the theming did not actively collapse in on itself as soon as you looked at it with a critical eye like it did in Endwalker.

                Such as

                >The Exarch's timeline culminated in the entire world banding together to save (You)
Despite how it's often presented in the flashbacks, the short stories show that this wasn't true. Most of the Ironworks quit and raided the place for supplies when Cid unveiled his plans. Most of the world was just trying to survive and had zero interest in trying to bring (you) back, aside from the few communities WoL had directly touched.

And you can say that it shows the sundered had the selflessness needed to sacrifice themselves, but that's not really the issue we're talking about.

                >it's the duty of every man to leave a better life for those that follow him.
But the fact is that this inevitably leads right back to Ra-La. Nothing changed, all roads lead to the end, and no lesson learned by a few individuals can change that. Over the eons Cid's technological innovations, intended to provide a better life for humanity, will invariably lead back to the hedonistic disregard for life shown by the Allagans.

Cid's team could have fricked over not just "those who came after them" on Etheirys, but literally every living thing in the entire universe by erasing their entire timeline from existence. What about the lizard homies minding their own business in their golden pyramids on the other side of the world? They were just living out their lives and Cid's plan could have disintegrated all of that just for their despair-induced desire to RETVRN to a better time where they never suffered catastrophe and lost their heroes.

HW is fedoracore and tries to pay dumb lip service to the idea that Nidhogg is le bad because he is le crazy while simultaneously concocting a narrative that justifies his every action. The solution ends up being the utter dissolution of Ishgardian sovereignty and the integration of DragonBlack folk into their territory.

Nidhogg's actions against anyone but the original knights are ever justified. Ishgard's new government is because the Church was only ever acting as a steward until a King returned, but it was unveiled that the royal bloodline was not only dead but that EVERYONE in Ishgard had equally legitimate claim to the throne. The integration of dragons is a return to their original society as they seek peace with Hraesvelgr's brood.

Nah, the correct /misc/ interpretation is that HW is based because Nidhogg is a black Black person dragon that wants reparations for misdeeds done to him thousands of years ago and demands that the white, noble, religious, and conservative Ishgardians provide him gibs (their lives) in exchange for something they never personally did.

It's resolved when the corrupt pope dies to stop besmirching the word of the gods, and then the noble white dragon helps to cast down the evil black dragon and his legion of thugs. Aymeric creates a representative democracy with a flat tax rate and second amendment rights for all citizens (including a militia that wields the nation's finest firearms, handcrafted by a noble's privately-owned workshop). The dragons and Ishgardians respectfully allow each other's sovereignty without having to wage war over past sins neither committed.

Okay, let's start with everything about Shadowbringers' time travel working the way it does just because we're told it does, and we're just expected to nod our heads because it's what's required for the story to have any foundation to function without crumbling. Or the fact that they can even time travel at all by studying and trying to replicate a primal and an extraterrestrial machine and smooshing their abilities together into one construct. Because they can just do that. Because the story says so.

from the story as it's experienced, to the contrivances and miscellaneous other bullshit moments, to the outcomes. your entire argument against ew's themes hinges on "uhh people arent a monolith why did they gloss over the nuances of a race that is long dead and exists only in the past in favor of the actual cultures and individuals in the present??"
all it screams is "i like amaurotines and i dont like the events that took place!"
well congratulations, a lot of people might not 1:1 agree with everything that happens in the story. it's only amaurotgays who think it's their birthright to feel constantly validated and their pet race doted on ad nauseam

The problem is that I like Amaurotines.
But that doesn't mean I think they're infallible, or that it makes any sense to expect the game to focus on every last minute voice in their society to really make sure everyone's viewpoint on the Final Days, Zodiark, Sundering et all is represented and gets a "fair shake". It's inane, and you just come off as being sore that your baby boys didn't get the outcome you wish for.

But that's not what I was saying. I was saying that the message we're to take from the Ancients in EW is in direct contradiction with G'raha's future in ShB. We only exist due to their failure, but it's not presented as a failure it's presented as an uplifting and inspiring story.

it’s because if they wrote the situation any other way it would be more nuanced and we can’t have that. in xiv land the liberal answer is ALWAYS the right answer and reality itself back this up
this is why everyone everyone who supports the church is a puppy kicking villain and btw they’re worshipping a false religion, the ACTUAL halone religion also supports the liberal world order!

Areas sure. Like maybe the theme about the WoD bringing death to people being the ultimate equalizer and a release from suffering (culminating with Emet-Selch) doesn't make much sense when other parts of the story are about clinging to life no matter what. But the friction between those ideas comes to a head in EW, nowhere in ShB do issues like that make themselves so glaring.

says, in G'raha's future the people decided to bring back a better, idealized past at the probable expense of erasing themselves from existence because the suffering they were dealing with was too much to bear. In other words exactly what the Ancients wanted to do, right down to the (possible) extermination of anybody and anybody caught up in their desires. Except with G'raha this is presented as a noble dream, and despite ShB going out of it's way to parallel him and Emet-Selch, EW never touches on the glaring fact that the catboy is living out an iskai fantasy, having escaped the tribulations of his home universe and cheated death multiple times to adventure with (you), his long-lost best buddy.

I don't think you picked up what I was putting across.

The Exarch's whole thing is the perfect counter to Emet-Selch's arrogant assertion that Sundered life would not be noble enough to make the sacrifices Unsundered life did. The Exarch's timeline culminated in the entire world banding together to save (You), with the understanding that it would probably completely destroy their timeline or not even do anything if their attempts were futile. They still did it and sent him back. They did everything they could for the sake of somebody else.

When the Ancients sacrificed themselves, the survivors immediately tried to find a way to kill other shit to bring the people that died back. Which means it's not a sacrifice in the first place.

Anyways, the point of what G'raha is saying relates to an entire theme of the story (which is made very clear in Answers): it's the duty of every man to leave a better life for those that follow him.
                >Look to those who walked before to lead those who walk after
It's part of Louisoix's whole thing (alongside the wisdom vs. insolence thing) and why HIS sacrifice as Phoenix was noble. Louisoix is basically the ideal, perfect version of what the Ancients SHOULD have been. Use your wisdom to guide others, to make a better world, and to do what you can to handle loss and despair. The Ancients, instead, fricked over what came after them for their own sake because they wouldn't cope with loss and, despite all their high-minded ideals, they weren't actually interested in what it cost to make a better world. They weren't prepared to sacrifice, whereas Sundered life is perpetually forced to sacrifice, so it's something they can do well.

If you want to know what is morally correct in the story, ask what Louisoix would do. He's essential Eorzean Jesus.

There's no hard proof, but even then 300 years on people were still surviving and making their way in the world. People suffered and were cast into dark ages during the previous calamities too, that doesn't mean some Mhachi mages should have tried to reset the universe.

All Emet-selch does in ShB is speak about the love and peace they had in Amuroat and She's makes a point to let you know he GENUINELY TRIED to see eye to eye with you and yours, not just half ass- truce, like he really tried but couldn't until his death where he came to terms with it being over.

This was only after the Final Days hit, which proves Hermes right. It has never been claimed that they were incapable of feeling emotion, only that they were too comfortable and spoiled and became so used to plenty and comfort that they became apathetic toward those things without the context of despair to give them value. Once they were forced to deal with suffering in some form, they suddenly changed their tone. They went from "dude death is great actually it's not even a big deal" to "AAAHHHHHH NOOOOOO IT ISN'T FAIR STOP IT NOOOOOOO". I am talking about the Ancients before the Final Days, the people who created the circumstances that led to Hermes and who fell to the Endsinger. You're talking about the Ancients afterwards.

For as you would acuse Acsians for taking things like the concept of life and death for granted, Hermes sin was underestimating and taking for granted the repercussions of running of emotions.

That's not emotionally dead, the furtherest thing from it. It was desperation to cling to life and restore normalcy to the world again. Emotionally dead is when you just quite literally couldn't give a shit about what was going on around you, apathetic to literally anything and everything going on, like Zenos, the man who as the whole was experiencing the literal apocalypse again, didn't give a shit about anything and just asked " So....when am I getting my run back, though?"

                >Emotionally dead is when you just quite literally couldn't give a shit about what was going on around you, apathetic to literally anything and everything going on
Yes, correct. And that is what the Ancients were like (pay attention to this part) -BEFORE THE FINAL DAYS HIT-. The Final Days forced them to change. If Zenos's outlook was suitable enough to refute the Endsinger then the Ancients would have been immune to her bullshit in the first place. I feel like I'm actually talking to an underaged golem here. You're incapable of separating Ancient society before the Final Days from what the survivors were like. You're explicitly told and shown that they couldn't influence the elpis flowers. Not because they were incapable, since we see Hermes influence them and Meteion. It's because they didn't feel anything. They were so accustomed to comfort and pleasure that they lost context for what comfort and pleasure mean, and it became the baseline for them. In the Pandaemonium raids the reason Elidibus picks up on Eric and Lahabrea being manipulated is that they feel love for Athena.

I think it's dumb how they portray it because it just assumes we would treat life and death the same as we would in this world as we would in our's, even though the fundamental laws of the universe and afterlife are different and can be interacted with and observed for the Ancients.

Like, every time they say that Ancients kill themselves they gloss over that they just reincarnated themselves to get a new perspective, and their memories will still be in the soul and can be regained either by crystal storage or aether exposure to their soul to show the old memories that were blotted over.

That's a completely dysfunctional outlook of life and we can see exactly where it led them, to a culture that values suicide over life. Death is still death even if you know how the afterlife works. Reincarnation is not a respawn, it's one person's soul being used as the seed for another person.
It's also very clear that they did not view death the way they tried to pretend they did, or the way you're claiming they did. They were terrified of death which is why it was taboo to even refer to it as death. That's why they invented that whole view of the process in the first place about it being a nice little retirement vacation. And the ultimate proof of this is that when the Final Days hit them they completely whipped around and decided that death was no longer a good thing. They suddenly decided that death was so scary that it was worth reaping the lifeblood of the planet in order to avoid it, completely throwing aside their divine mission as the planet's stewards to avoid having to deal with the very thing that drives the flow of the Lifestream.

They weren't able to influence elpis flowers and that "Ashaka" energy. Because they're souls were too aether dense, and that was the only reason why, it wasn't because they has deficiency in understanding emotions. Hermes was specifically chosen to sit on the convocation because he had such a dedication to respecting life and the creatures created, just like his mentor before him.

                Anonymous

No he didn't, Meition by herself couldn't either (not until later when she shared thoughts with her sisters later on) that's why in the MSQ she asked you to influence them so she could show them to Hermes. It was also the reason why during the Acsians final days, Acsians themselves didn't turn into blasphemes, only the created creatures did. Where as in the Eorzean final days, people themselves turned it to blasphemes. Sundered they were far more sensitive Meition's influence.

                >No he didn't
He did. There's literally a cutscene of this.
                >that's why in the MSQ she asked you to influence them so she could show them to Hermes
And she asked you to do that to show Hermes that he was not alone in being able to color the flowers that way.
                >It was also the reason why during the Acsians final days, Acsians themselves didn't turn into blasphemes, only the created creatures did.
That's because their bodies were too dense for the dynamis to penetrate. That has no bearing on them being able to influence the external dynamis around themselves.

                Anonymous

That just means that the amount of dynamis that Hermes produced from sorrow was absolutely massive, well beyond anything WoL or anyone else seemingly produced. Aether cancels out dynamis, but it doesn't mean that those with a lot of aether don't have dynamis to begin with, it just means they have so much aether that it generally smothers dynamis that'd come out from them and be picked up on by elpis flowers.

It's like comparing a burning candle left alone vs a burning candle being sprayed with a spritzer bottle vs a campfire being sprayed with spritzer bottle.

                Anonymous

Dynamis isn't 'produced', it's just there and the influence one's emotions have on it can be seen through entelechies who have enough aether to have tangible existence but are also thin enough for the dynamis to influence that existence. The dynamis is there regardless, the flowers are only a method of seeing what state the ambient dynamis is in. Hermes could influence the dynamis because he felt something, and the other Ancients didn't influence the flowers at all.

Hermes and Venat basically had the same plan, but Venat's was more in opposition of the ancients clinging to glory days while Hermes applied it broadly. Although Venat was far more hopeful in mankind, trusting that they would succeed and doing all she could to help while Hermes left it to as clean of a 50/50 as possible while still placing his bet on humanity.

The game itself is pretty good but Re:Mind helps it a lot. Grab it on Steam when it goes up in a couple weeks and mod the hell out of it, some of the most popular ones are the ones that replace the friend-summon thing with an actual Summon menu by name and one that adds ReMind's skills into the normal game's skill progression and dive-to-the-heart "class" system.

Did the Ancient souls that were used to summon Zodiark got released after we killed him? I can’t remember.

      Yes

Then I’m wondering, when Zodiark got sundered, the souls he held within him probably got sundered too right? So logically the parts of Zodiark that still remain in the other shards are still housing Ancient souls.
Since Golbez absorbed the Zodiark shard in the Thirteenth, isn’t he literally holding millions of souls hostages? Why don’t we let this fricker kill himself?

          >Since Golbez absorbed the Zodiark shard in the Thirteenth, isn’t he literally holding millions of souls hostages? Why don’t we let this fricker kill himself?
Golbez didn't absorb the Zodiark shard. The aether was unable to join the Lifestream like it did in the Source because of the way the Flood of Darkness fricked the Lifestream there, so it lingered and coalesced into Zeromus instead. Once the Thirteenth gets fixed then those souls can join the Lifestream there.

Simply adjust the camera at the distance/position you want to be the default position and press Ctrl+End on a keyboard. (This shortcut is to 'Save Current Camera Position') Then when you push that controller button it should swap to that new camera position by default.

Also if you're new to keyboard I would recommend looking at this shortcut list for controllers:
        https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Controls#Menu_Navigation

Some really useful little things there that help a ton. I've played with controller since 1.0; game is super comfy with it and isnt any worse than mouse/keyboard.

          Thanks for the tips!
That list definitely helps a lot.
Unfortunately your solution for the camera reset thing only makes it so a new default distance and angle can be assigned rather than it keeping whatever I have at the moment - if I'm playing with it zoomed out to the max it'll zoom back in when I reset.
Though I can make it not face the ground now at least.

Which statistic should I care about on xivlogs to understand dps? cdps since its composite/combined?

      Anonymous

Depends on the job, and they measure different metrics so you often want to look at all of them to different degrees. For example, if you're playing a support DPS you want to consider rDPS (because it measures how well you're using your buffs), but your rDPS can also take a hit if the rest of your party is really shit and makes poor use of your buffs. So you need to consider your nDPS, as well, since its your damage COMPLETELY devoid of anybody's buffs (i.e. it measures just how well you're executing your rotation).

cDPS might be the least reliable metric because it considers all buffs, so it fluctuates kind of wildly based on party composition and which job you're doing. For example, a Samurai being fed AST cards, Dance Partner, Dragon Sight, and getting raid buffs will have high cDPS. That same Samurai in a party of a Black Mage, Machinist, and Reaper will have less cDPS even if he's performing just as well.

Really, the best metric is to just plug a parse into XIVanalysis, because it'll tell you if you're ACTUALLY making mistakes. Otherwise parses are too beholden to buffs, other players underperforming, or lucky crits/better gear. Parses can be a bit of a meme because of that.

      Anonymous

Generally rdps because it's how much damage you brought in minus the amount from buffs given to you by other people, plus the damage given to other people from your buffs/debuffs. cdps adds in that extra damage you got from other people's buffs, so it's the most reliant on other players of any gauge to use.

Generally rdps because it's how much damage you brought in minus the amount from buffs given to you by other people, plus the damage given to other people from your buffs/debuffs. cdps adds in that extra damage you got from other people's buffs, so it's the most reliant on other players of any gauge to use.

rDPS made parsing a meme because you're relying on your party for your parse now
      your party is always shit

It's still a meme without rDPS because you're beholden to gear and lucky crits. The pursuit of parses is cancerous and moronic. As soon as it memes people into not wanting to do LB because it lowers their parse, it's brainrot.

It's still significantly better for knowing what you're adding to a fight personally than adps, ndps, and cdps.

I can't decide if I like how pictomancer appears to play. It's a little weird. I definitely hate how childish/cartoony it is, what a fricking ruined job.

i think they have the same philosophy but Venat executed it better while hermes collapsed in on himself sadly and didnt get the wol talkjutsu

Hey, it happens. They had different experiences and different outlooks. Venat rebelled about different parts of their culture than Hermes. It just so happens that the things they protested about their society converged in a way because it was all founded on how the Ancients comported themselves.

summoner's trances are like "soft mantling" a primal to use their power, heavensward introduces it as a way of worming around their fricking moronic egi restrictions because the devs didn't want to give ramuh/shiva/leviathan and were still attached to it being a DoT job with pets, but later they ignore it and you summon stuff traditionally as demi primals
it's used in these threads a lot for ZODIARK TRAAAANCE which is an ESL shitposting group's named comic where WoL picks up the azem job stone and he turns traitor and goes to kill venat and he uses a summoner trance for zodiark

well the funny part is that this concept has already been explored in other fantasy worlds
Forgotten Realms has the Harpers, basically a shadow organization whose purpose is to sabotage technical advancement to make sure the world is in a forever medieval period
though they honestly have a better reason than venat, since the last advanced civilization almost led to the end of the entire planet, and they make no excuses about what they do
