homie, out of all the Souls games, Elden Ring is the one game that is literally begging for you to break it
So much so that it’s difficult not to overlevel when playing just olaying the game blind

          Anonymous

Lmao I still remember my first character.
Played absolutely blind without looking up any shit and by the time I was in Leyndell, I posted my build and progress on /erg/ on /vg/ and anons called me a liar because I was so "overleveled" I surely must've looked up things on the internet.

I was about 120ish by the time I entered Leyndell. I did a co-op run, though, so I was doing each area twice. We also put Leyndell off until after we did everything else, since we thought it might be a point of no return.

That's what Dark Souls 3 did and it was fine then too. ER just gives you a bunch of overpowered tools on top of that to shift the odds in your favour.

Gael wasn't that fast he just did somersaults and shit (which his sword lets you do too). The most aggressive boss in DS3 was Friede which is to be expected because of her archetype.

they should have just buffed the recovery and kept the speed and poise damage the same. i am still sad about how different they are
t- actually used them on release.

        Anonymous

The big weapons feel really strong now. "Charge Attack builds" are a thing and they're great in this game, like in RL1 you can beat a lot of bosses just by charge attacking with Iron Balls/Star Fists or any weapon with good poise damage.

most people are very bad at the game. even "souls vets". i binge watched streamers play this on release and like 99% of them are bad. even a few of the no hit runners were bad and just cheesed everything.

On release I saw people complain elden ring was just dark souls 2 2.0 because thye had to run from the bosses for over half the fight

        That's fricking embarassing lmao

chasing the boss is something you need to do as melee, running fro mthe bosses is something you only do if you are a bicth, so it is, objectively speaking, not better.

Slightly slower than ds3 I believe

        Anonymous

It depends. Straight swords are nerfed in their speed compared to ds3, other weapon classes such as greatswords are faster in ER now. What however makes Elden Ring different from all souls games before is that weapons have attack combos that have a certain recovery after reaching their end, in Souls games you can literally just spam attacks until you run out of stamina.

It doesn't matter if people end up saying you cheated or that you didn't beat the game: the fact is enemies and bosses were made considering the player would use spirit ashes (and also upgrade them).
It's simple as that, but I'm not denying it's not bad game design.

      Anonymous

I don't get why Soulsgays still deny to this day the fact that Spirit Ashes are a core gameplay mechanics
It has an upgrade system, and is put in your face constantly since the very beginning, you also have 90% chance of dropping one in a minidungeon
I think that they deny it because it utterly showed how piss easy the Souls games always were, literally every Souls game had busted ass builds and weapons
So, they resort to this weird cope that you didn't beat the game because you used X mechanic
If a mechanic is in the game, then you are expected to use it, handicapping yourself is not the correct or official way to play it

IMO its just the same as any other challenge run. Getting upset or saying someone else didn't beat the game because they used official mechanics is copium, yeah. But there's something to be said for doing self imposed challenges to up the difficulty.
Like in DS1 I beat the game using fist weapons (cestus and Dragon Bone Fist only) and no shields. Its not that impressive compared to other people, but it felt very rewarding for my skill level.
No summon runs are the same thing. Its just a self imposed challenge. Summons especially highlight how bad the AI of many bosses are, and how easy the game gets if you have more than one person. But if thats how you want to beat the game, I have nothing against it. Just don't complain about difficulty when you chose easy mode.

        Anonymous

I'm sure it's mostly shitposting anon. The better ones do outright trivialize bosses and even the aggro management most provide allow you so much freedom to attack the boss. What people never say is that Elden Ring has on demand difficulty options in the form of tool that make the bosses easier ranging from naked level one with an unupgraded club to level 250 mimic tear dual wield ultra greatsword heavy jump attack spam.

Ever since Souls gained it's reputation as being "the hard game" Fromsoft deliberately makes their games more annoying in a trial and error way
Which is convenient for them because the core gameplay of Souls has a rather limited design space

The player character in Bloodborne isnt really much faster than in ER, he runs faster and thats it. A dex build in ER is as fast as spamming r1 with the saw cleaver in Bloodborne

  31. 2 weeks ago
    Anonymous

Why do people act like bloodborne has a ton more mobility? The dash is a little quicker, but it's not crazy. You could beat the game by never locking on and rolling just fine. Vice versa, if you're a shitter you can get the quick step or bloodhound step ash of war.

      Anonymous

yeah I never understood this either, the dash has like 2-3 frames less recovery than an ER roll and thats it. I assume people use a fast weapon in Bloodborne like the Cleaver and a slow weapon in Elden Ring then go complain that Elden Ring is too slow, when Bloodborne also has slow weapons and Elden Ring has very fast spammy weapons like Ornamental Straight Swords or Curved Swords.

    you have the wrong picture.
that was the critism for Dark Souls 3.
Elden Ring is Dark Souls Two 2, where the problem is slow and unrealistic animations that dont make sense. Which conflict with any reasonable persons understanding of how objects move and accelerate.
