If you want high skill ceiling rally racing where you can actually feel like Spider-man a kickass rally driver who actually pulls out the stops, Dirt Rally 2.0. Otherwise, F-Zero GX probably gets the high intensity feel down best.

Try Need for Speed Shift. It's a semi-simulator like Gran Turismo, but it has more assists if you need them and the physics emphasize the danger of racing, such as car damage and screen blurring from concussions.

I still need to finish Shift 1. Supposedly the driving physics in 2 are kind of fricky compared to 1, but you'd have to see for yourself. 1 is an old game so you could probably buy it really cheap if you can't/don't want to pirate it.

IMO Most Wanted actually has one of the better driving models of that period and a lot of cars in the roster feel totally different when racing 'normally,' the problem is so many players just clutch on Speedbreaker for any corner tighter than a sweeper so they never actually learn it or bother changing car tuning settings.

Either games are open world and think that a random path along roads in the world map counts as a track (it does not) or it's just real world courses which appeals to autists but is uninteresting. >I swear the series has more fans now than it did when the games were new
probably because people are making videos about TXRD2 and TXR3 and also people just getting tired of the state of modern racers
                >you'd think they'd be aware that a true sequel would be an instant moneymaker
the problem is that Genki is a small studio and likely doesn't want to take too many risks

                >both Import Tuner and the mobile game flopped
Import Tuner Challenge is definitely underrated. I didn't know about it until a few years back since they decided to market it with the most generic B-tier title however. Car list was worse, but it's likely because they went all out with the (pretty good for it's time) interior and even visible engine customization. I liked finally being able to make use of Parking Areas to find other racers, too.
Being an Xbox 360 exclusive when the previous games had been PS2 exclusives (yeah, Dreamcast) definitely didn't do it any favors, either.

Time to face reality, Ganker. They died BECAUSE their cores never changed. I'm not saying they need a super dramatic, overly complex story mode or some party mode shit, but it needs more of a hook than cars go fast.
F-Zero GX is the closest to an ideal racer because of its map design, customization, and near timeless graphics and music. The story mode is dogshit, but it's at least memorable. And there's a lot of faces to put to the game: Captain Falcon, Jack Levin, Black Shadow, Blood Falcon, Phoenix, Pico, Super Arrow, the list goes on. It has more depth than being just a racing game.
Goddamn travesty Miyamoto keeps it dead, fricking bastard.

Eh, Midnight Club 3 is peak for me. Great carlist, great customization, excellent sense of speed, well laid out maps built to be raced on and even a nice variety of special abilities along with pretty competitive AI that doesn't rely on rubberbanding. They don't need to fix what's not broken, just at least release a new game with a shiny coat of paint at least once a console gen.

Gotta think about it from a casual's perspective. It could be used as a selling point, regardless of developer oversight on if they're competitively viable or whatever. Maybe if Nintendo actually made a fricking new one, they could refine it to allow for more viable setups. Or just expand it and make the options that much larger.

      Anonymous

F-zero is a unique instance because it didn't die from a lack of popularity but moreso that Nintendo is moronic and doesn't know what to do with it.

Reggie has said that and I think Miyamoto essentially said that

GT4 was a rotten pile of shit. You can put all the content in the world in, if it feels like shit to drive it means nothing. OP read aout the car count on wikipedia and got a little 3 inch stiffy, then maybe MAYBE, watched some streamer play it.

No one who actually played GT4 in the past 3 years still talks fondly about it. It's the tofu chicken sandwich of racing games

      Anonymous

If you play GT4 with a wheel, it controls really well, better than some modern games actually. And the stiffness of the driving on controller can be attributed more to the stiff camera than the physics themselves. Play GT4 Prologue or use the chase cam mod to get what I'm talking about.

porsches (RUFs) make sense since that's what you'd expect, understeer until suddenly it's oversteer and the ass and end have replaced each other, the problem is that oversteer basically doesn't exist in GT4 other than when your tires are in the red so it just doesn't come
the vipers being so understeery is unforgiveable though

Same, it's got a lot of the same devs behind it as the original. Horizon has been getting increasingly lame by the title, I want to go back to visiting car dealers, optioning out the extra metallic paint, contrasting seat stitching, carbon fiber trim and factory optional wheels before rolling down the windows on your new car and taking it for a drive. Owning cars felt much more meaningful in the TDU titles, I had many cars with over a thousand miles on them in TDU1 when the original servers were still up. The driving physics in hardcore mode were quite good, too.

          >I don't know if I should be excited or reserved for FM8. It looks good in bullshot clips
Turn 10 has no idea what they're doing and is banking entirely on GRAFICS and Game Pass making them enough money that Microsoft keeps writing checks without poking their head in too closely. Expect literally just FM7 again- with the same missing features- but now running even worse because RTX, and with less cars and way less tracks.
