I doubt that they even could. Nintendo only localized their Yo Kai Watch games because they were exclusive to their systems, and since they put YKW4 on PS4 in their (failed) gamble Nintendo will not localize it.
Unironically or ironically, yes.
Part of the reason Snack World took so long to come out in the west was because they were actually trying to pitch the dub to modern NA children's networks to pick it up, like they weren't shitting the bed and trying to remove all traces of anime from their lineups
Shut the frick up, "yokai watch bros" isn't real. That series demonstrably failed to gain traction.
Maybe we'll get ports of old stuff but those games had a really nasty downwards trend as well, nobody should really be expecting any franchise that dropped off recently in the last few gens to make a comeback...
It'd be nice to get a Switch collection. That'd definitely be a generous amount of puzzles and playtime until they get sorted on a Puzzle Master. I wonder if they've ever tried pursuing similar specialists globally to find a good match?
as much as i want layton to make a proper return, unless they can find another great puzzle master since akira tago died, i'm not really sure if that's a good idea
>Pokemon is on a decline after BW/XY failed to catch much interest >Yokai Watch ends up filling the void in Japan - everyone loves it and people consider it the second coming of Pokemon >want to expand into the west as well to become a true giant >but the west doesn't care about Yokais and the games flop >meanwhile Japan starts caring about Pokemon again after Pokemon GO and Sun/Moon successfully revived interest >Level 5 also do some incredibly dumb things like replacing the iconic Yokai Watch song - one big reason why everyone there loved the show >fail to innovate with the sequels with people calling them lazy - saying level 5 lack ambition >now have to fire all the people they hired after the initial expansion >entire west expansion collapses >meanwhile new IPs all flopped
This is what happens when you try to expand too big and too quickly
>>but the west doesn't care about Yokais and the games flop
more like they pumped out too many games in too short a span of time. >like replacing the iconic Yokai Watch song
You mean yo-kai exercise number 1?
>but the west doesn't care about Yokais and the games flop
Why do you people keep pushing this lie? This isn't the 90s anymore, plenty of people in the west know about Japanese mythology. And the first game didn't flop at atll, it sold pretty well, the reason the others did was because Level 5 is moronic with their localization and the Switch was already in full swing by the time they came to the west.
To say nothing about how they had the balls to pull the "two versions of the game" shit Pokemon does.
Kept pumping money into their IPs trying to inorganically transform every one of them into multimedia giants. Making either a show, movie, toy line, spinoff, mobile game, whatever they could to expand their series into multiple markets, but they failed because they don't know how to manage shit and fired their shots off in random directions. Ironically, the one series (Inazuma Eleven) that could've made it big had jack shit made for it in the past decade.
they are blacklisted for me
waited years for fantasy life and then they decided to keep the dlc seperate to buy instead of combine it
also fricks over people online that didnt get the dlc
i stopped buying anything they were involved with
I'm part of the reason why Fantasy Life is dead. I pirated the game but it actually turned out to be a great fricking game. But then they made off with some gacha mobile sequel and fricked off. Frick Level 5.
A lot of their multimedia series didn't really have any longevity past the initial run. KIds who grew up with Inazuma 11, YKW, LBX, etc are older now and I guess they weren't able to recreate the 'magic' of the originals as developers. No idea why they shitcanned Layton but it was also developed for a different market (basically casual NDS players who bought it because it was trendy) and perhaps they thought it wasn't gonna hit make as much money as their bigger multimedia IPs (since Layton only has the games and anime/films). If they are still able their best shot is probably to just bring back Layton proper to rekindle some interest from the core fanbase and then go back to their roots and make some smaller-budget JRPGs; works fine for Gust and Falcom.
MY DARK CHRONICLE DISK IS NOW FREEZING AT BUILD MODE.

It's kinda funny they brought Yokai over here but not Inazuma even though there was a full English loc and English dub already for the european market. I had to hack my 3ds to play some of them back when I was into the series.
They're the type of company that gets a hit and then immediately goes all in on that hit oversaturating the market and ultimately prematurely killing the brand. Yokai Watch went from a behemoth in Japan to barely existing over the course of like three or four years. Layton went from getting a game seemingly ever year or two to never being heard from after the one chick's 3DS game came out. Inazuma Eleven seemingly got a game every two years.
They're also a company that mismanages their games outside of that. Yokai Watch decided to age up the brand with Shadowside which was a really bad move as far as people have pointed out and Ni no Kuni basically threw everything out from the first game when making the second.
they peaked during the DS era with Inazuma Eleven and Layton
before that they were just Dragon Quest codemonkeys
but they just HAD TO try and turn every IP they had into merch selling machine for kids because god forbid you're not making as much money as possible at any given time
I highly doubt that this might be a good sign but considering the state of affairs that Level-5 was in prior to this mess I'll take it as an act of desperation since they are now re-opening their doors to western audiences.
On the other hand, this does mean that there might be official translations for the rest of their LBX games (in a collection hopefully) and Megaton Musashi for localized releases and PC ports.

i feel the same, but with lbx. never got the damn sequel even though the anime came out. they can eat a dick. i wish capcom or nintendo would make sequels to their tiny mecha series
Replayed during the lock-down, it's still great, yeah the story isn't anything special but Level-5 always struggles with actual plots, great setups..... but flat payoffs, interesting characters with good back stories and designs.....but not enough depth or interaction between each other.
I also played Ni no Kuni II during the same time, a game i've dismissed on release but came back to an was pleasantly, i 100% it with all DLC's on the Hardest difficulty and it was genuinely fun and is one of the few games where the dub is better, the story and characters again suffer from the LV5 syndrome, seriously they need to hire better writers someone who has worked on Tales of for instance since that series's greatest asset is it's characters and their interactions.
Kind of funny back then I found this game to be pretty bad but compared to modern JRPGs its a masterpiece. A techinical marvel on the PS2. I bought the guidebook for this game and it's the best paperback video game guide ever.
It's amazing to me, they had Dragon Quest in their hands, they literally were at the top as far as Japan is concerned and they threw it all away. And for what? Some cheap flash in the pan fad games?
did those yokai watch 2 games even come out in NA? i remeber they went the homosexual way of pokemon and split the games into 2 but i dont recall ever seeing them instore or threads at the time
Yeah, I got all three versions. What happened is that there weren't a lot of copies printed because the first one didn't do well, so they all got bought and pre-ordered. The same thing happened to the third but one on a more extreme level. It was like $95 for a psychical copy last time I checked.
shame
i only got yokai watch 1 used like 1-2 years before gamestop stopped selling new/used 3ds games.
it was a nice change from pokemon, only thing i hated was the thing where i was chased thru the city
>take years to release a game >release 3 in america so late that it's almost the last 3ds game released, being beaten out by some persona game >was available for about half a second even then >"bro wtf we're broke??????"
Yeah, I got all three versions. What happened is that there weren't a lot of copies printed because the first one didn't do well, so they all got bought and pre-ordered. The same thing happened to the third but one on a more extreme level. It was like $95 for a psychical copy last time I checked.
Kinda funny how quickly the massive Yokai Watch hype ended up collapsing in Japan.
People were just pissed after a few bad Pokemon games and Yokai Watch was their temporary replacement for the time being but god - was it a massive one. >every store in Japan playing the Yokai Watch song >yokai watch merch everywhere >people demanding that Jibanyan becomes the Olympic mascot >people on the street randomly doing the dance and attracting masses >games all sell gangbuster
And whoops - After Pokemon got big again everyone immidiately pretended like Yokai Watch was never a thing. Nobody talks about it anymore. Yokai Watch 4 sold less than a 1/10 of what the games used to sell - It got outsold by a third rate baseball game at release and an enhanced re-releases with way more features only ended up selling 10k copies overall.
A Switch port of the original Yokai Watch sold even less. And the original game initially sold over 1.4 million copies in comparison.
Youkai Watch was handled horribly.
Too many games in a small period, the first game and then its sequel that's mostly the first game's same locales and content but done better but in two versions, and the myriads of spinoffs and merch...
And with how typically shallow Level-5 gameplay is, not hard to see how it's perceived as a shallow game.
The final nail in the coffin was the sequel anime series with adult jokes
>its sequel that's mostly the first game's same locales and content but done better but in two versions
actually it was three versions, bony/fleshy and then psychic like 5 months later.
>And whoops - After Pokemon got big again everyone immidiately pretended like Yokai Watch was never a thing.
Pokemon wasn't why YW died. It was Level 5 running the IP into the ground and failing to scale the franchise properly that YW ended up in the gutter. Any time a Level 5 property dies it's their own fault 100% of the time. They literally can't handle their own IPs to save their lives.
Level-5 is such an odd story of just mismanaged success. They've proved they can make good quality games people want, but then they just make the most moronic management level calls possible that have resulted in series being doomed.
>yokai watch 4 us Switch localization announced >they take so long to make it that by the time it comes out it's a couple years into the switch's followup lifespan
Youkai and their designs are too rooted in Japanese mythology to become Pokemon.
Pokemon succeeded because it just drew a cute little fukken chibi dog, and then add some shit on it. Like put a tulip bulb on the dog's back and then call it BULBAWOOF or something.
>Yo Kai Watch thread >"MUH POKEMON" >"MUH POKEMON" >"MUH POKEMON" >"MUH POKEMON"
Boy its good to know a shitty western click bait site's effects can last this long. The game was never once compared to pokemon in japan. Let this be a lesson how 1 shitty news site can ruin an entire franchise this hard.
I just played 5 hours of the first game. It was almost nothing like pokemon, in fact i see it as SMT Nine mixed with SMT 1 but whit kids friendly style.

No Dark Cloud? No Rogue Galaxy? No White Knight Chronicles?
That's a pass.
The studio went to shit when they got reduced to peddling ghibli imitation garbage.
Pretty sure the IP belongs to or is at least shared heavily with Sony. So it's literally up to Sony if you want another Dark Cloud. It's why the Wild Arms devs literally had to make "not Wild Arms" and shill their project on Kickstarter (which was massively successful but won't be out until like 2027).
Did they come crawling back to Nintendo begging them to localize their games again?
I doubt that they even could. Nintendo only localized their Yo Kai Watch games because they were exclusive to their systems, and since they put YKW4 on PS4 in their (failed) gamble Nintendo will not localize it.

Layton is pozzed when they made a female protag.
SJWs already infected them, and the game is doomed to be dead.
Layton games were great.
meanwhile, two weeks ago
yeah frick is happening here. we literally had a huge ass thread discussing how they're dead not too long ago.
Nintendo bought them out.

Fantasy Life 2 or Dark Cloud 3
I want to breed with Lilika and birth many warriors
weren't they extremely successful to begin with?
what happened?
Pumped all their resources into a multiplayer game that was DoA
Handled Yokai Watch very poorly
Putting all eggs in one basket, yokai, and when that started to die going balls deep in other projects like they will also be peak yokai sales.

They should've waited until YW3 to bring it to the states.
Keep the burger Yokai but also put in actual american cryptids and folklore
At least you can get your Mothman fix elsewhere.
All the other King Cream Soda songs are just as great though.
whats the iconic song?

Just put Layton vs Wright on Steam, Capcom and Level 5.
Hell, put the rest of Ace Attorney on Steam, Capcom.

GIVE ME DARK CLOUD 3 YOU HACKS!!!
Frick your Yokai Watch, give me back Layton AND i want a Dark Cloud 3
Yokai Watch 4 and Megaton Musashi localizations soon.
Unfortunately Sony hates Japanese games.
I choose to believe that leak that said that Ape Escape 3 was coming back, i NEED Japanese moronic games, i need them in my veins
Ape Escape 4*

Yo-Kai Watch 4 bros..???
PLEASE GIVE ME ANOTHER INAZUMA ELEVEN!!!!

tbh level-5 censored and/or rewrote most of their localizations so i'm not really looking forward to them coming back.
Are the going to make good games again or just more Pokémon clones
>make ni no kuni mobile auto play mmo

i forgot they did ni no kuni. Christ, what a terrible rpg that was.
while you could reasonably call them moronic for allowing that to be made, it was a made by a korean dev they licensed the IP to, not level-5 themselves.

After closing their localization offices how will Level 5 handle publishing in the west?
thank god
they seem to be the only studio still willing to make games with shotas
Too little, too late
The Level 5 that made Dark Cloud is dead after Megaton Musashi flopped, I can't be asked to care about anything they do.
Fun fact: fart threads on /aco/ specifically ban Yokai Watch because of the pure autism it generates.
>/aco/
>fart threads
>full of autism
wow who could have seen this coming
Why are you going to /aco/ anyway? Why would ANY thread there not generate autism?
/aco/ is a moronic board where people make threads about children's cartoons with a cast of child characters you aren't allowed to post and only 3 adult characters and get indignant when no one wants to post in them

INAZUMA ELEVEN BROS!
sassy afro companion for layton incoming
you know it will happen
No Dark Cloud? No Rogue Galaxy? No White Knight Chronicles?
That's a pass.
The studio went to shit when they got reduced to peddling ghibli imitation garbage.
can they remake White Knight Chronicles to be not moronic and have the gameplay that was in the reveal trailer?
anon that looks fake as frick
I know, but with the tech available today, they could do it now
Which are the best Layton games to emulate?
What would it take for them to finally make fricking Dark Cloud 3?
Pretty sure the IP belongs to or is at least shared heavily with Sony. So it's literally up to Sony if you want another Dark Cloud. It's why the Wild Arms devs literally had to make "not Wild Arms" and shill their project on Kickstarter (which was massively successful but won't be out until like 2027).
