I savescum RELIGIOUSLY in EVERY GAME that lets me
And even in some that FRICKING DON'T, I STILL DO IT

What's this? A Roguelike designed specifically around persistent saves, where I'm meant to be prepared for losses and unforeseen misfortune?
Well maybe you shouldn't have made it so easy to backup and restore the save-files, huh

Alien Rulers are a pain in the dick but you can control when they show up by saving their intro mission for later

The chosen are fricking pansies, the biggest threat is the assassin stunning half your team from stealth and running off with a strong unit and if you let that happen it's kinda your fault.

Reapers are also absolute monsters that can use their stealth to flawlessly manage pods, set up stealth pod kills with claymore and a teammate, and just blast down a tough enemy by mag dumping with banish

No because I have the discipline to not reload if I don't want to.

Any kind of Ironman or Hardcore mode that involves not being able to reload autosaves is just idiotic. Computers aren't perfect and they frick up all the goddamn time. If I die due to a glitch or game error, I should be able to reload.

I haven't played Xcom, but there's some games I would happily savescum (like saving right before a Legendary Pokemon encounter, I'm not just going to let that c**t get away), but I despise the idea of constant saves and reloads in a strategy game like Civilization (and so probably Xcom too).
    >"Woops the enemy was actually marching an army towards me, I'll go back 5 turns and move my troops there."
    >Oh they built that wonder first, I'll just go back and stop my construction.
    That's same lame shit

Nah frick that, having a bad turn in Civ or Xcom doesn't compare to that sort of stupidity. Even if you do lose, well that's an intended outcome of these games -- you either win or lose. It's not in pokemon.

In Xcom you can lose, it's designed for you to lose if you frick up. If you savescum you're just cheating yourself.
Pokemon you literally cannot lose, but there's still like 3 moments in the games where you can just get dicked over and miss out, and it's not fun. I have no shame savescumming there, sure, because in this case it doesn't reflect on my skill.

  17. 3 weeks ago

Nah, it's moronic in a game where you can spend dozens of hours on a single playthrough since you could easily encounter some sort of game breaking bug that would have been fixed by reloading an earlier save. If it's 1-5 hours per playthrough or something, sure, whatever.

Don't need to, I am honest enough not to need to be forced into it and I'm not at the mercy of glitches and frickups. I've never seen baldurs gate 3s 3rd chapter because I sent my party to the underground mushroom place while the wizard scaled the tower full of bad guys and upon reaching the summit and meeting all the bad guys, activated his nuke. Game over. Whatever, I won and I stick with my decision. I'd also like to thank DODI for the free game.

I'm a proud savescummer. I play games to have fun, not be autistic
That being said with Xcom, I only do it if it's impossible to continue playing because I have no men and get overrun

sacescumming is autistic because autists love repetition

I've been getting into retro gaming lately, and I found out about retro achievements. They're what they sound like - user made achievement packs that are integrated directly into old ROMs. They're pretty neat, less lame than they sound.
Anyway, for these achievements to actually reward points and be "worth" anything, you have to play with savestates completely disabled.

So it turns out that the most autistic people of this already very niche, autistic hobby are actually vehemently against savescumming.

            No bully
I know they sound really shit, just pointless "bing bing dopamine!!", but they encourage a lot more thorough or challenging gameplay of games you may have played to death decades ago.

Like, I love Super Mario World, but one of its (the SNES versions) flaws is the Dragon Coins. They're basically pointless after the first few levels; they're hard to find/get, and give dickall, and they aren't tracked or rewarded. Now there's incentive.
And did you know you can kill the Big Boo? I sure as shit didn't, even after replaying the game like 10 times over the years. So now I'm learning new things too.

Ironman is just to force you to play the game correctly. I don't need to because I know sometimes my guys will die or a mission will fail and it's not a big issue. I'd rather have multiple saves and backups in case there's a bug or a crash.
Reloading a turn because a soldier died or the mission went breasts up and you had to retreat is WEENIE shit. If you do this then you're a loser and should enable ironman mode until you learn to play properly.

I do honestman because I have ran into a few bugs that would've caused me to straight up lose. Like sometimes in xcom EW you can get this weird bug where the game pretty much freezes, you can still move the camera but it's stuck in this weird limbo of between turns, so you can't do anything. So yeah, I just be honest and take it on the chin if I get fricked but only reload if there's a bug

if you played LW you would graze him for 1 hp because he is using high cover and you only flanking him from 90 degrees not 180 also no height advantage so your best odds are 40 % to hit - 20% to graze so 20% total

        Anonymous

It was LW but I turned off the graze stuff because honestly it's just bullshit, I don't know why they even added it. I got tired of point blank grazing dudes and dying for it. Also was trying out red fog at the time and you take grazes from SO MANY 20-30% shots

You can do it in game, think you have to be in gameplay though not main menu. Just hit escape, go to lw settings(if not that it's one of them) and there's a setting for graze brand, just set it to 0

I played WOTC to the point that without Iron Man it doesn't feel like much of a game.

Honestly even with Iron Man on it's really just a matter of surviving the first few missions before you become so much stronger than the enemy that you're never realistically in danger of catastrophic failure.

I never play permadeath unless it's forced. Having to replay the same exact content 17 times because I had an accidental bad roll or didn't know that a new enemy has a hidden gigaBlack person ballbuster ability that oneshots you an infinity+1 times is not my idea of fun. I especially loved how back in XCOOM I flanked a sectoid with my rookie on the very first mission, missed a 75% hit chance almost point blank, and then that sectoid ran away and oneshot my rookie in full cover with a crit from a mile away. Stopped ironmanning right then and there
