Just hope that the court buys it when you say it was a mode meant for normal people to experience what it's like to be arachnophobic.

Shadows over Loathing has an Arachnophilia which turns everything into spiders
It also has a hyper arachnophilia toggle which turns all the sounds in the game into "spider noises"

Shadows over Loathing was really good

Games unironically perpetuate this irrational fear of spiders by portraying them as super agressive sneaky beasts that will gang up on you, the exact opposite of what they are in real life.

You're trying to be rational (fictional spider =/= real life spider) to disprove an irrational fear, check the definition from a third source then.

What the frick are you even talking about?
What does this have to do with stopping Arachnophobia?
The main point I was making is that Metro spiders are not like irl spider at all. They are radiated carnivorous human eater that should be feared.
Complaining about the game not portraying human eating spiders like real life spider is moronic.

If you can recognize that a fear is irrational, then it would be equally irrational to change content for these people.

You could also be a bit more creative and not just use "scary spider and spiderwebs in confined space".

          Anonymous

Arachnophobes complain about anything spider adjacent. It's not like a 6 legged enemy is not scary right up until the moment they see the extra 2 legs. And people shouldn't be "more creative" as a solution.
That's like if I said we should stop putting guns in games because a handful of homosexuals are upset by the mere sight of them, or that all games should have a gun toggle to turn them into fricking cubes or whatever

      >portraying them as super agressive sneaky beasts that will gang up on you, the exact opposite of what they are in real life.
To be fair, this is USUALLY the opposite. Emphasis on usually. As a Floridian I can tell you that Huntsman spiders are 100% aggro fricks that will sprint at you with intent to harm if you get near them. I don't know what it is about them. I think it is because they have that hunting strategy where instead of ambushing prey or catching them with webs, or being intelligent and careful like jumping spiders, they run at targets like manic crackheads and this has translated into doing so against anything they feel remotely threatens them. Wolf spiders are like this too but to a lesser extent and also they are smaller. I haven't met a member of either family that hasn't squared up if I got close.

Huntsmans are annoying fricks. I kill the things when I find them in my house. Wolf spiders rarely do that though and I'll usually scoop them up and take them outside.

          >Wolf spiders rarely do that though and I'll usually scoop them up and take them outside.
It might depend on the subspecies or something, I know a friend who has to deal with them regularly charging him, but I've seen some that are pretty docile, so they're more of a mixed bag. Huntsman spiders are the quintessential shit stirrers however.

Wtf thats just not true. They always just try to run somewhere, they probably don't even recognise you as anything but a floating hand thing that could kill them, your feet probably look like rocks to them.

I have never once seen a huntsman spider that didn't try to run directly at me when the opportunity presented itself.

I have never once seen a huntsman spider that didn't try to run directly at me when the opportunity presented itself.

Spiders have extremely poor vision, they're probably mistaking you for something else, like something to climb on or hide with.
It's like those desert spiders that will never stop chasing you, while in reality they're chasing your shadow to hide from the heat.
Salticidae have extremely good vision and are able to recognize faces, and in their case, they're extremely friendly to humans because they can clearly identify you. You can even "pet" them. There's still a debate whether they're intelligent enough to be domesticated.

I'm arachnophobic, but spiders never bothered me in vidya. Killing them all the time might've even helped me get desensitized to spiders irl. I still won't touch them with my bare hands but I can kill giant garage spiders and dispose of them myself. It's satisfying watching them slowly die to Raid.
On the other hand vidya gave me a fear of sharks and underwater monsters, mainly half life. I had nightmares about these frickers regularly as a kid. Then on a vacation in the Cook Islands I went scuba diving for the first time and came face to face with sharks irl (not huge ones, roughly 2m long I think they were black-tip reef sharks). I always thought I'd shit and piss myself if that ever happened to me but it was actually quite cool and mesmerizing.
I guess vidya has the power to induce and desensitize phobias.

No, but yesterday when I got up out of my bed to piss after reading I felt something on my elbow. I thought it was a piece of string of my shirt or w/e, but when I looked it was this frickhuge spider. Did scream like a b***h a little bit until I managed to shake it off. In retrospect, it wasn't THAT big, but definitely above the size you expect to be stealthy like that

The open world can be tedious, but the linear part of the gameplay is good.
If you don't like the open world looter shooter, you can just do the main quest.
