nah, tumblr still exists. autistic art gays got kicked out of it though because they couldnt post their shitty art anymore since they heavily censored the platform. because of that, they made everyone believe tumblr no longer exists.

They are still profitable, honestly removing porn made the site a hella lot more manageable. You can still browse through pin ups and skimpy art, all the fricked up teens can no longer post their shitty nudes and furries are back to their xitter holes.

The real answer is to go beyond and listen to all the generations of music from anywhere (e.g. big band from 1920s/1960s, funk, and of course the countless classical genres). You will find gold there.

I dont get the message, OP what r u trying to say here???

and for good reasons, because those times were fricking great for entertainment and actually spearheaded the gaming interest that would later create the golden era(2000s), both the 80s/90s/early 2000s were great when it comes to entertainment industry, because it wasnt as veto'd as it is today. Heck, a lot of the shit you only see in the DW nowadays was up in surface web during the mid 90s, and the mid/late 90s forums actually had proper communities instead of the melting pots online websites have nowadays, and thats objective.

I'm a millennial and I hate the 80s. Other than movies for teenagers, it was a terrible, disgusting, cringey decade. I did however grow up watching people a several years older than me, like AVGN, NC and RLM jerk off about the 80s. Do you think I agreed with them?

I grew up with the dawn of 3D games, Final Fantasy VII and Super Mario 64, to the PS2 and explosion of MMOs. You think I looked back at the 80s like, "Wow, this 8-bit game where I can't change my trajectory after jumping is fire"? I grew up with the Powerpuff Girls and Teen Titans, Dragon Ball and its successors, the Big 3, and Togashi and Fullmetal Alchemist. You think I looked back at the 80s and thought hairy middle-aged high school teachers and swimsuit models drowning in hairspray was cool fantasy? I grew up with the Attitude Era when wrestlers beat the shit out of each other with bats, while the 80s was mostly fat dudes hugging. This is when everyone had spiky hair and wore baggy clothes and liked extreme sports. I grew up with the dawn of the Internet, a secret club for geeks and outcasts, where everyone was anonymous. The 80s was when crime peaked in America, the 90s was when it bottomed out.

Why the FRICK would I like the 80s?

False equivalence. The oldest millenials grew up in the entirety if the 80s and core millenials grew up immersed in 80s culture. A more appropriate analogy would be millenial 70s worship but ofc you can't use that because it barely existed. Guess you have no choice but to accept stuff happens outside your static world view.

Millennials start in 1980. The oldest millennials would have been 6 when Master of Puppets dropped. Also little kids weren't listening to Metallica in the 80s. The most I can say is that millennial kids were listening to them when they became more mainstream with Enter Sandman but millennials were too young for 80s Metallica.

There's no pseudoscience to it. Mainstream nostalgia operates on a 2 decade cycle. Once 20 years pass after a culture loses steam it will eventually become cool to like it again. It was cool to make 90s styled 8/16bit pixel games in the 2010s and now it's cool to make 00s PS2/Dreamcast styled games.

Oh and don't worry, in the 2040s gen A homosexuals will be nostalgic for the 2020s. Look forward to the 9 trillion indie games that are inspired by Fortnite, FnF, ARGs, Cinematic Sony games, Spiderman/Elsa toy videos, and shitty horror slop, all while using a corporate Memphis artstyle. It will be glorious.

      >Why were millennials wanking over 80s vaporwave shit when most don't have a memory of the decade?

Point is, generations will grow an interest in decades that they were either born after or alive in but have a memory of said decade, it's always been that way. In this case zoomers. Most born after 1990s but don't have a clear memory of the Y2K era nor the Memphis era but wank all over it. Gen Alpha will probably wank over early 2010s shit despite the oldest of the generation being born around the time.

50s nostalgiagayging was huge in the 1970s as well. You had popular films and TV shows like American Graffiti, Grease, and Happy Days all exploiting the good ol' days for boomers that grew up during that time.

        >vaporwave
get your shit right, vaporwave was so niche that its not worth mentioning as nostalgia bait, given it was based off shit millenials didnt even live through. What truly represents millenial nostalgia is 80s/90s garage geek culture, I grew up in the suburbs myself with older friends who'd go on the lookout for garage sales, hoping to find cheap and accessible videogames/consoles during a time it was hard to get into it. The funny thing, it started out with Gen X but it was way too niche for them so it was quickly taken over by millenials. The advent of the 90s gaming industry and 2000s golden era of gaming were all due to this boom and sudden interest from the 80s/90s. And as

Z's born into the late 90s/early 2000s grew up in the 2000s and are thus nostalgic for that time period, but were young children during that time, so their ability to engage with media of that time period properly was limited.
It makes sense that you'd want to go back and check the other things you missed from the time you think of so fondly.
Add to this with the 2010s being such a drastic and sudden and divisive cultural shift that finds a way to piss just about everyone off, people are just going back to the times they felt more comfortable.

Every time I go replay an old game that I love, it's not as good as I remember it

It's not that the game wasn't actually that fun, it was that fun, you've just already experienced it so it isn't as fun for you anymore. This is also why making a better version of the game doesn't work for you, but it might work for people who didn't play the original.

Nostalgia is absolutely a real thing, people in all eras experienced it. It's not a GOOD thing in the sense that delusions are intrinsically bad, and it's being aggressively exploited these days, sure. Also emotionally underdeveloped permanent children are revoltingly comfortable wallowing in their reimagined youth forever.
But regardless it's a pretty universal human experience to extract some amount of pleasure from recognizing the trappings of remembered excitement and comfort.

the 2000s didn't have a massive (and probalby terminal) loneliness epidemic. plus the mindraping social media curation algorithms weren't perfected until around 2012.

^^^ is the big thing. In many respects people think the world changes and yet nothing new is under the sun. Even issues say with describing mass loneliness aren't likely that new, but what REALLY matters is that the mechanisms truly have changed.

To be a bit autistical and specific too: consider the concept of "secret police". Many societies have had them, but many also haven't or they weren't a realistic concern. A society WITH them is going to be very psychically different at a deep level -- despite the humans more or less being the same. The concerns for survival and thrive-al and whatever bullshit plagues them remains the same, but everything is altered.

In the same regard, the different factor for more contemporary times is that the isolation is increasingly becoming the norm made possible by technological and infrastructural progress, while active (and not even conscious) forces are acting to make people more addicted and/or miserable to something that actively makes one fall into the former group (the isolated) if they don't already have a very deep in-person network which gets ever harder for young people to form as the dependence on social media grows stronger.

Conclusion: I'd argue "the world" isn't especially worse beyond the usual ebb and flow of decay and advancement, though the US government seems distinctly more paralyzed and dysfunctional. However the collective "psyche" is a lot unhealthier, and I think the true worst aspects are going to start rearing their heads in comings years, as the problem has only been growing.

unironically christcucks just need to stop telling people they'll burn in hell forever if they jerk off and play video games and they'll start going back to church and le loneliness epidemic will just...end. instead we seemingly doubled down on this with sigma bros telling everyone to sell or destroy their vidya collections and do no fap.
we haven't realized yet that men will just let society and its institutions burn if we can't have sex or jerk off at the very least

Man, I couldn't agree more with this whole post. Back in the 90s I remember parents at my Boy Scout meetings talking about how anyone who votes Clinton should be shot; when I was in college in the Bush W. years it was professors telling me that anyone who supports Bush should be shot; etc., etc., none of the tension and division is different or new. But there was never, ever anything like the mass mental illness crisis caused by everyone being terminally online. I include myself in this, and my family, and everyone else. We're all junkies in the new drug crisis.

Oh I am completely disconnected from news and politics, but I am completely enmeshed with online distractions, addicted beyond self control. I would be better off if I never saw a screen again.

you don't actually believe that. This isn't a challenge -- that is, I'm not calling you a liar. But reflect on what you've said.
                >addicted beyond self control
                >would be better off if I never saw a screen again.

What is the cause of your supposed addiction?
Do you truly believe your digital connection is bad for you? (note: not "harmful", but the even more generic "bad")
If you do believe it's bad for you, why do you keep making the illogical decision to do something you find bad?

Evidently, deep down you believe the immediate pleasure is better than the long term suffering, that the net-benefit of your actions is positive.
Or, you're not thinking at all, only acting mindlessly.

If the former is the case, nobody can help you, but you also won't be suffering as badly if you come to terms with it.
If the latter is the case, you can already help yourself, and you learned the exact tool you need to overcome addiction -- mindfulness.

anon, you may still disconnect from online garbage while still using the internet. It's a matter of what you use, I stopped using social media long ago because its completely overran by mentally ill people, and if you thought this only affected young adults, wait until you see how many kids per class are on fricking meds for some shit. It may sound awful, but this is the actual moment of "profiting off the suffering", because soon enough the last boomers will move on and there will actually be an opportunity to climb the ladder, and you won't see that again until who knows how many decades later, zoomers will have it worse so a society where entire generations will solely depend on a few is coming

I just wish online dating wasn’t so bad where I live.

                >99% of the women on Hinge are fat, black cows
                >which means the 1% who aren’t Shrek-tier whales will always be bombarded by male attention
                >I’m not bad looking but I’m far from the hottest catch in my city
                This shit is pointless.

online dating is a scam, especially for men

Correct, which was what I tried to indicate in my post

                [...]

However the collective "psyche" is a lot unhealthier, and I think the true worst aspects are going to start rearing their heads in comings years, as the problem has only been growing.

when I noted that you can disconnect but it's the more difficult choice.

In fact, that's the main thing I'd wanna stress to anyone: you HAVE to disconnect and learn to let go, but this is the more difficult and isolating choice. Ultimately, it's the choice we have to individually all make irrespective of the collective, and it very literally is disconnecting -- we have to find new connections or restore old ones.

                >Conclusion: I'd argue "the world" isn't especially worse beyond the usual ebb and flow of decay and advancement, though the US government seems distinctly more paralyzed and dysfunctional. However the collective "psyche" is a lot unhealthier, and I think the true worst aspects are going to start rearing their heads in comings years, as the problem has only been growing

                >We're all junkies in the new drug crisis.
I like your phrasing there, as well as describing it earlier as mass mental illness. That's a pretty accurate descriptor, and the junkie metaphor is actually pretty strong in the sense of addiction, withdrawal, and self discipline.

It's really quite a strange situation, like the Lotus Eaters except it's with arguably very unpleasant but engrossing stimuli. People get sucked away into a bullshit fantasy world that's actively being designed to keep them angry, sad, or otherwise strongly emotionally activated inside of it.

    >nostalgia isn't even a real thing
I mean... it is. Your view of the past might be skewed in some ways, but the longing for another time which you can remember is a thing. Personally I remember a time when gays trannies and Black folk weren't worshipped 24/7, and life felt "normal" in some way. Of course we had problems back then too but I remember life feeling normal and the average person being normal as well (not overly sensitive c**ts waiting to explode at anything/everything).

Zoomers are more neotenous than previous generations. Furthermore there is greater androgyny between the sexes (women more masculine, men more feminine) in general both have a higher bodyfat percentage which exasperates the previous issues. Seemingly men are all getting early onset baldness which would suggest the cause being lifestyle or environmental rather than genetics.
Other markers are elongated faces due to mouth breathing, glazed unfocused eyes due to screen use and chronic sleep deprivation. Likely wearing glasses due to damage from perpetual blue light exposure and not getting outside.
I could go on... but you get the idea.

Unless they're a turbo-bawd and trying to be a giga-stacy, femcels do exist, because it wasn't just about sex, it was never just about sex, it's about the whole relationship and roleplay and the mental issues that they have along with the sex, most femcels abhor the idea of casual sex, they don't want to be attractive to get pumped and dumped, they want the romance of a guy who is just as rotten as them and won't try to go against their mental illnesses upfront, it's about wanting a guy who is subtle in these and isn't just trying to be a normie to them.
Femcels are, in great part, BPD ridden girls with niche and schizoid interests that see you as gross because all you want to be is a polygamous turbo chad fricking every hole you see and talking about gains, or frenology, or trannies, or Black folk, or whatever the frick triggered you today.
      It isn't just about sex.
It was never about just sex.
this is why they are femcels.

Anyways Neet girl date night is pretty good, there should be more games about dating nerdy girls, I want a tokimeki memorial styled game about dating absolutely degenerate fujos and otaku girls.

that's the fundamental difference between men and women
        men want sex
        women want relationships
you can easily see it when comparing male-produced porn to female-produced porn

this have never been more obvious yet most my peers (excluding me and a couple guys) are part of the loneliness epidemic.
they are literally attractive single virgin guys and girls in their mid 20s in my friend circle who cant get over themselves to just frick already
I tried the whole wingman thing, but it was so hopeless its depressing.

        >femcels do exist
        Alright, let's hear it.
        >because it wasn't just about sex
...what does the "cel" stand for?
        >it was never just about sex, it's about the whole relationship and roleplay and the mental issues that they have along with the sex, most femcels abhor the idea of casual sex, they don't want to be attractive to get pumped and dumped, they want the romance
All women say this, but they do not act it out. Instead of looking for Mr. Right, they sleep with Mr. Right Now and make themselves look less attractive. Then they turn around and blame men, as if it's my fault they slept with an butthole. No. Women just like buttholes. Did you hear about that self-improvement guy, Andrew Huberman? It just came out that he's secretly been dating six women at once. They had no idea, he was able to keep them in the dark thanks to his traveling lifestyle. Women want me to hate the guy for this, but why did six women all just coincidentally think he was Mr. Right at the same time? Meanwhile, there's five guys out there jerking off to porn wondering why they aren't as good as Huberman. Obviously, it's because they aren't buttholes like him.
        >all you want to be is a polygamous turbo chad fricking every hole you see
I convinced my friend to play Dota 2 before he joined the military but he quit because no matter what hero he played, people kept yelling at him to go fight creeps when he just wanted to fight players. I asked him what heroes he played. He said Drow, Juggernaut, Sven, Templar Assassin and Phantom Assassin. I said, "Dude, that's not 'no matter what hero,' those are all carries. They scale hard, you want to farm so you can level up and buy items to increase your stats, then you'll solo the entire enemy team. The problem isn't that the game doesn't allow your playstyle, it's that you're picking the wrong heroes for it."

Do you understand this analogy? He quit the game for the same reason these women will die alone.

It comes with the BPD territory. BPD is an offshoot of narcissistic personality disorder, and they typically have the emotional intelligence of a toddler (literally). Children usually grow out of that type of emotional manipulation when they develop properly, but people with BPD don’t, and use it to control their loved ones.

          It’s some fricked up shit.

Nostalgia is real. I've been having it for 20 years. Nostalgia is when you long for the past because you remember good times, which you are not having right now. It might have been useful in the past when people migrated more and death lurked around every corner, but nowadays it's a trap because it entices you to try and relive experiences that can't be relived, when really you should be trying new things like you used to.

The thing about nostalgia is that you're nostalgic for certain things because they felt new and amazing at the time
The reason people cling more to nostalgia now is simply because it doesn't feel that way anymore
The only logical explanation is that things simply are worse in the modern day than they were in the past
The PS5 or Switch simply don't feel as new and amazing as the PS1 or N64 did and that's all there is to it
The only way to recapture that feeling is the future has to change and be better but it won't

  76. 2 weeks ago

A kid in the 80s didn't have instant access to media from every other decade and wasn't interacting with people from those decades in the same spaces where the media competed.

This is what's different really. No kid who grew up in the 80s with the first games was thinking games were getting shit in 2002. So it's not just nostalgia although that informs some of it.

People have always pined for an older world, but they never had this living museum that we inhabit.

To put it another way, a person who grew up with an apple computer who didn't throw it away and kept enjoying it would be an "enthusiast".

But they would never have been making these arguments that the old computers of their time were better. And they'd be really rare.

IF this thing people have now is nostalgia, then the argument should be it's speeding up. So maybe a person in the 90s is pining for the rebellious era of the 60s, but no way doe that compare with people in 2024 pining for 2010 or even 2016.

It was also hard enough already to define the 2010s even as they were happening, there used to be a lot of people noticing that it would be harder to pin down that decade, but now it's getting even more intangible as all the decades inform time as it moves forwards.

In the future, how will we distinguish between the real 80s and stuff like Stranger Things, between Y2K and all the vaporwave that came later?

To put it another way, in the past if you idolised the past you were someone like Mishima. Now you're just like everyone else.

      Anonymous

I hate to be a "this time it's different" response, but I would consider the possibility that the experience of day to day life is getting qualitatively worse. If so, then it's not so much about idolizing the past as it is about remembering when the "present" was better.
