There's a lot of that already. Adding more doesn't require a sequel. As for life in the town, you got weekly visitors in the town square, and at night you can have one of several other visitors. There's even contests the villagers can have you do, like scavenger hunts, so they are much more "alive" this time around.
Like the telephone? Yeah things like that were nice, but not something a full game would be needed for. Both of these needs can be done through DLC if it was really wanted. This is why you won't see a new game on the same system.

Did you already play the first one? I would recommend playing that before City Folk. City Folk is fine and Dolphin made it more kb+m friendly but wacky with an actual controller. It also has a build in timer (Option > Configuration > Advance > Custom RTC Option), which is always a plus since you can just play it on your own time.

There's no reason to play this game. What's the point? The characters don't say anything interest. Catching bugs/fish/whatever isn't fun at all. The only fun part of the game is decorating which overall just takes too long and makes you wait months for something to appear in the shop.

Im convinced the entire food and cooking system was cut content they just re-added because it was basically done. we had the whole food stamina system. we had crops already, the pumpkins. we could already use creatures as ingredients in recipes , clams into fish bait. at some point in development they probably realized 'hey, this is completely fucking pointless and has no real use' and they rightfully left it out. later they had all the shit made and done already and while racking their brain for easy update content, just finalized it.
They also had part of the data where you could just invite villagers into your house but it wasn't in the release launch
I feel like it as a mechanic could be expanded upon a lot. Like rather than it be crafting with a different name, make it so it’s some minigame where you add random ingredients and based on how well you perform, the quality of the meal can differ. Once you discover a meal, you can just quickly cook it without the minigame which is always an ok quality. They also come with many different effects like faster run speed, better luck to mine gold, make you friendly with cat villagers/make you more likely to run into them etc
Stamina, or anything that can be interpreted as nourishment is meaningless in AC. It would have been more worthwhile if villagers had favourite dishes that gave them big friendship boosts, but then high friendship would need to be much more meaningful unless you really want 50 photos of Peanut

Where else am I supposed to discuss animal crossing? No way in hell we're reviving /acg/ before the next game.
I hate to say this, but the series has been riding exclusively on nostalgia fumes since at least 2004 or so, due to the fact that the conditions that allowed this series to fill a niche no longer existing in our hyper-connected fake-faced world we now find ourselves in. The original Animal Crossing was conceived as a "home-away-from-home" kind of game where you could visit your animal friends if you were away from your real ones. That's all gone since now everyone and their dog can contact each other instantly. And it's further eroded by the animals having their bite taken out of them from pressure of modern social conditions, further reducing their humanity. Both these pressures have pinched the niche Animal Crossing filled further closed than it already was, and is in my opinion why the series has transitioned away from its roots. And yeah, a ballsy game dev can say "fuck politeness" and make a game with interesting characters, but you still will never be able to undo the Great Interconnection that has occurred from the dawn of online social media and the internet. There's simply not enough people who are involuntarily isolated for such a game to succeed.
Reminder that if you didn't get the dreamer medal for New Leaf, you better start grinding for it before Nintendo shuts down the 3DS online.

Someday there'll be an Animal Crossing for phones that's true to the formula. And it'll be a good game. For sure.
Maybe it will be the herald of devs not being complete retards and actually treating phones like the mini computers they actually are and try selling full price normal games on them. Just because all you've seen is gacha shit doesn't mean publishers haven't been putting full games on phones for years.
I'm convinced that the only reason it doesn't exist so far is because Nintendo has become so irredeemably greedy that they haven't managed to find a way to create a means of profit past the initial purchase.
Feral Interactive has been porting real games to mobile for some years now, showing that if developing an entire new game for mobile isn't the way, then adapting then porting them is.
However, FI has a very insidious DRM installed in their games, making piracy (almost) impossible. Therefore guaranteeing that there IS an initial purchase in the first place, avoiding the "problem" with piracy. Now remember: Nintendo has partnered up with Denuvo. If they were to port a big title to mobile, they would definitely bring Denuvo or some kind of high class DRM into the mobile market.

Generally, developers have gotten much more acceptive of bluetooth controllers and general peripherals that already have attachment for phones lately, turning them into what is an essentially multi-platform handheld device (you know, like a fucking computer). The price ranges can vary of course, but usually they're much cheaper than their branded, first party counterparts.
Additionally, most android phones already have screen mirroring apps native to the OS, which can easily connect to most brands of smart TVs, so you can just play while it charges.
Now, this is nowhere near the level of input quality as the Switch, but it's only a matter of time until some streaming HDMI or whatever cable for phones that also has a way to charge it becomes mainstream.
Battery life however, is not something I can objectively pinpoit, since it varies massively between devices, user settings, the type of game and how hardware intensive it is, etc. But I'm sure it's something that manufacturers know and will work on improving the next 5 or 10 years since now phones with 3nm chips can run current and past gen games.

animal crossing had a special memory card which I believe had a battery to power a clock so the game could continue while the console was off. not sure why they would not just use the cmos battery in the console.

The fact that the endstate of every Animal Crossing world is deletion or abandonment prevents me from enjoying the series. Same reason I couldn’t play Nintendogs or Tamagachi.

Placing furniture outside was my #1 dream feature back in the WW/CF days, but when NH came out for some reason I was just burned out on the series. I played for a couple months, terraformed my island the way I wanted it, then just lost interest without ever really decorating.
I'm sure many of you have felt something similar, but I dunno. It feels like there's too much freedom in NH but I don't know what I'd change since I think terraforming and decoration are both great features. There needs to be more focus on the "animal" aspect or something. I LIKED having some insufferable douchebag in my town in the previous games I could never get rid of, but it's too much now.
My problem with the dollhouse aspect is how shallow it is. You can spend hudnreds of hours terraforming and decorating your island and then what? It's all just a lifeless setpiece, the items have no interesting interactions or anything. You can look at them or sit in a chair and that's it.
Meanwhile games like Yakuza have tons of little minigames in them. Why can't I build a functioning pocket circuit or minigolf course and play there in AC?

Star trees recquired hacking(you could get them from a hacked island though and plant them on your own). When the island dream feature got released, twitter troons got so mad over people having star trees on their islands that they spam reported everyone with them and threw a shitfit because they felt the need to police how others play a single player game. Nintendo then patched them out and transformed all existing ones into money trees, even though star trees were already popular in previous games and never got fixed.
If Nintendo weren't retarded they could have just made them an official feature, but they never did that either. So people just lost a harmless decoration option because of social media homosexuals.
