am i a retard if i've beaten this game 9 times and never found this fucking thing?
Not like SotN is a challenging game anyway.
Not in the slightest, you actually have to go out of your way grind the flying heads for it to appear. One of the rarest items in the game, iirc.
oh i thought it was locked in some uber secret area or something
but like that guy said this game is already piss easy as it is
>Mfw I got this on literally my first time ever playing the game
The game was never the same after that.
fucking same, finally played it a month ago after putting it off for years upon years for no reason and it dropped from those flying guys by luck, had no idea it even existed
used it for like 15 mins and stopped after a while because it felt way too good, only used it to farm the floating sword enemy because I just assumed it had to have a cool drop.
I found two of them in one playthrough. super rare though
They aren't that rare.
The Shield Rod + Alucard Shield are way fucking better and you get them every time
The chance of discovering how it works on your own is extremely slim.
the shield rod works with every shield iirc, i always tried to use it whenever i got a new one. i know i found this out without looking it up.
I never bothered personally since the game isn't that hard to begin with. Isn't the Crissaegrim also found in a rather late area too?
farm shmoos in the inverted library. there's a room that works best as you enter from the left and one flies right at you and you can easily zone if it doesn't drop
I got it on my first playyhrough without even trying to grind for it.
I just equipped it to see what the move was like and saw how stupid OP it was that i used it for the rest of playthrough.
Who cares. This entire game is literally braindead. Bosses literally do like 1/100th of your hp
It's your choice entirely to equip the strongest items.
Most people had no idea it existed in the first place, since it very rarely drops from enemies in one tiny area of the castle that you only have to visit once. My first time through, the Alucard Sword was the best weapon I was able to find.
This game has load of super cool weapons most players will never see because they are rare drops. Another example is Heaven's Sword
Who the HELL plays SoTN and doesnt farm every item at least once? Its like one of the few collection side quests in the game
>farm every item
that sounds like a job. Are you ok anon? It's inherently autistic to do these kind of things in something that is supposed to be entertaining
But I find it fun, which is why I play video games.
zoomers will just say anything to get that (You) now, huh? well, here you go, kiddo, your dopamine. you're welcome.
>blatantly skipping content
Also fuck you i have more autism than your entire bloodline, ive done multiple SoTN challenge runs and speedruns. I know the game inside and out so my opinion on it is better than yours you low effort gamer.
I didn't farm for shit. Only things I wanted was the to get the inverted castle and some clues where the best armor/weapon is. Everything else isn't important.
>farming and collecting
Autism. I just play the game normally.
Crissaegrim was garbage compared to Shield Rod + Alucard shield tho.
>not turning every room in the castle into a rave with Power of Sire + Duplicator
And you don't even have to grind for that one
Aaaa that CRT filter turns me on
if you ever complained about w+m1 in tf2 you should probably have a nice day. Pyro is the most do-nothing class in the history of the game.
I hate pyros and their cheapness because of how much they nerfed spy into the ground to appease their fag playerbase. So now it's impossible to have fun with the single most fun class in the game, and you have pyrofags to blame. Fuck them and fuck soldier and engi players too.
Two weeks ago I was trying to get the cool fist weapon when that thing dropped. Had no idea such a destructive weapon dropped off such dumb monsters. I wonder how many other weapons I genuinely have never seen because of this game and it's drop rates. I also got that upper cutting fist from some frog. Never knew about that and used it for most of the run. Fun weapon.
I wish more games has atrociously OP weapons like this.
I don't think it's possible to find any real challenge in SOTN. Igarashi specifically said in the interviews that he wanted to change the reputation of Castlevania being a hardcore gamer only game, and introduced the OP RPG mechanics so that the game could be enjoyed by anyone including housewives.
He made the right choice. Default NES Castlevania is boring trash.
based.
why the fuck doesn't anyone make a true spiritual successor to this fucking game, geez.
european gothic is european gothic
their aesthetics aren't alike. I was thinking more about simple combat, shitty RPG systems, the equipment system, and combat that becomes brokenly easy once you start using magic.
nah, they aren't similar in those ways, that's an inarticulate comparison that comes from not having played many games before
Has Miyazaki ever talked about being inspired by castlevania because SotN unironically gave me Dark Souls vibes the first time I played it and no I don't mean that because I thought it was hard.
ya i did
saw the credits and heard I Am The Wind and everything
Did you get the "Maria getting thirsty over Alucard's volcel dick and chasing after him" ending?
was it autism?
I think he didn't want to fuck his descendant and was swimming in primo succubus puss.
>his descendant
that shitass gba game is not canon
I mean gbc or whatever
shut. the. fuck. up.
Hipster game, nobody played it anyways, contrarichudcore,

What are good modern day Metroidvania's that are hard, has a shit ton of varied weapons, and NOT roguelike/lite
I just got the Metroidvania shingles again the other day and started checking out whats coming up this year and saw this gem
looks good, whats the catch?
I found and used it during my luck playthrough.
Even with reduced stats it made the game a peace of cake. I was having some trouble before I found it tho.
I don't understand this meme. If I play a game that has a super rare drop that's super powerful, I am not allowed to use it because it's super powerful?
nooooooo you aren't allowed to be lucky
No, you're not allowed to use any equipment or powerups in any game or you didn't beat it
Credits. Roll. I. Beat. The. Game. moron.
>TFW for some reason nobody can outdo SotN
Sometimes i still look at the venus weed sprite art and wonder how they got away with it
1) SotN had relatively unused formula of open world, which could be explored and enjoyed. You didn't need to replay entire level to get to the places you could not get without upgrades, there wasn't many annoying platforming moments except clock tower, and even clock tower didn't have too much bad stuff.
2) SotN had gothic atmosphere in visuals and music with just slight horror moments like Granfaloon/Legion, Beezelbub etc. At the same time there was places like Chapel - calm and soothing.
3) It has collectaphon, which didn't have anything hidden behind it, while all items (equipment) were actually usable.
4) Game have likable main character, likable Dracula, likable side characters including ferryman.
5) Game have lots of small secrets/events, many of them are purely aestetical, like bird cycle of life in tower.
6) Animations are smooth, game doesn't feel clunky.
7) The story, while being classic "good guy save the world from bad guy", have some mystery with Richter.
8) Voices are just enough theatrical to fit the atmosphere and to be remembered.
Yes, the game was unfinished, reverse castle shows it hard, yes, game was unbalanced, there are many items like muramasa, which clearly show, that there are many cutted features, and that reverse castle was supposed to be somewhat harder.
There's also Harmony of Dissonance gba Castlevania, which partly follows general atmosphere of SotN, all of the later Castlevanias are too "bright" compared to this two - the same problem (at my opinion) that Bloodstained have.
So, SotN is relatively unique, had a good director and chose just right style for Dracula's castle to be shown both as a threat and interesting mystery to explore - not just "it's your enemy, go kill it".
>the game was unfinished, reverse castle shows it hard
That's wrong.
>There's also Harmony of Dissonance gba Castlevania
That's the brightest one
nope
HoD is like if SotN got lobotomized.
Soul.
>deadends
>shop, key and vertical movement upgrade
nobody knew about this shit when it came out. i beat the game multiple times before i ever even heard of the weapon.
spent 30 minutes farming it one day and used it for a whopping 5 minutes before being bored.
Daily reminder to play the SOTN randomiser. It actually rewards exploration. It's fun having to use a weapon that's not usually meta etc.
But the meta isn't even a weapon.
Thanks for constructively adding to the discussion.
You're welcome.
I knew anyone familiar with SotN would understand.
For some reason I was never able to get it to work. I was probably fucking up something simple.
Anyone try this "kind and fair" version?
https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/6125/
>enemy stat scaling
stopped reading right there
Like a 3rd of the items in SotN are just as broken.
I did
>Sigeru
You didn't read his name.
Fuck you OP, if IGA didn't want the Crissaegrim to make you death on two legs he wouldn't have made it like that.
besides you basically have to go through 90% of the Inverted Castle to find the enemy that has it and then grind it, so its not like it was somewhere where anyone could find it easily.
Never liked how so many games gave other people besides Alucard aura while moving.
I don't know what this game is
fuck off tourist
Demon Castle Dracula X: Nocturne in Moonlight
I think a lot of people don't know or don't remember the context that we originally played these games in. Being a teenager in the PS1 era and playing this shit when it came out, you likely didn't have a ton of games to play, so you'd try to get as much out of a game as you could. So games like this that offered ANYTHING in exchange for autistic grinding were a big time sink. Same with something like Final Fantasy VII, I 100%'d that shit at the time. I would probably never go back and do it now because all of that Gold Saucer autism would be a massive waste of time which I could spend on playing through another game, but at that time I was looking for something to waste time on. That's also why I beat Metal Gear Solid over and over to get all of the bonus shit, and played through RE2 multiple times for that ZAP goodness, and the bonus items there as well.
Soul Steal breaks the game much earlier
Even shit like Combat Knife breaks the game before you reach Inverted Castle
I got it early in the library. Made the game ez modo
It can't drop on your first run.
That's Ring of Varda, not Crissaegrim
