Keyed
True. Only a disgusting subhuman would use a chiclet keyboard
It's amazing how peripherals designed for text input and navigating an operating system are actually better for most games than peripherals designed specifically for gaming.
The gamepad is an embarrassment of an input device.
insightful post/10
Shooters tend to be bad. The ideal video game is either a character action game, a 2D platformer, or a racing game, all of which are better on a controller
>character action game
Not sure what this even means. If it's a third-person game with free camera, then mkb is still better than a controller due to much higher precision of camera control. Any exceptions are just badly made games that don't accommodate the mouse properly.
>2D platformer
Unless there are features that require analog input, this comes down purely to preference. I prefer the keyboard.
>or a racing game
This is actually true. However, there are even better input devices for racing games, the gamepad is simply a compromise here. Still, this is the only genre I use a pad in because I don't have a wheel setup. Gyro steering is pretty nice.
A character action game is something like DMC or Platinum Games
Also strategy games (any kind) are the 4th acceptable genre of game and are allowed to use mouse and keyboard
unironically
you're right. I fucking dominated it and made it my bitch
no you didnt. there are like five good video game players on Ganker and I'm one of them. no way you're one of the other four
Now I wanna see someone beat Typing of the Dead on a gamepad
there's just two genres where using keyboard+mouse actually matters.
I always laugh when I see morons use keyboard+mouse for 3rd person action games that utilize analog movement.
>I always laugh when I see morons use keyboard+mouse for 3rd person action games that utilize analog movement.
skill issue
its like telling people who think that using a controller for FPS is shit that its a skill issue.
I used to think that but really, analog movement is such a small sacrifice when you can move, move your camera (with 10x the speed and precision) and do your actions (with more buttons accessible) at the same time without claw gripping
if you ever even considered clawing on a gamepad you're an actual subhuman and not worth talking to.
when do you think analog movement is relevant?
you can use a modifier key if you want walk/run to be distinct
its relevant for all sorts of movement and placement that isnt limited to 8way.
for any more than that you have to use the mouse to turn the camera on top but that limits where you can point the camera to while moving.
oh btw, d-pad>keyboard too when it comes to diagonals. nailing them precisely sucks ass on keyboard. 360 motions are also dogshit on it.
where?
in what third person shooter do you think this is relevant
be specific
oh shooter wasn't specified, my bad
i'm an old fart that immediately equates "action" to "shooter"
also modifier to run in games that werent made for it is utterly soulless.
thats something people also dont discuss. If I play Mario64 I dont want to hold shift to run. and running in circles sucks ass on keyboard+mouse too.
Mario 64 DS went from analog to 8way movement with a run button and everybody hated it.
>I dont want to hold shift to run
hold shift to walk dipshit
>and running in circles sucks ass on keyboard+mouse too
no it doesn't?
>for any more than that you have to use the mouse to turn the camera on top but that limits where you can point the camera to while moving.
this is the kind of shit some consolefag who has never played a platformer on a mouse and keyboard would make up
there is no benefit to being able to run at some specific angle with the camera pointed a specific way
you have WASD and a mouse and that is all the precision you need, more than a dinky little analog stick can provide
>hold shift to walk
SOULLESS
>I always laugh when I see morons use keyboard+mouse for 3rd person action games that utilize analog movement
Midwit take. Same kind of person that would have considered it impractical to use a keyboard for fighting games.
its funny that you mention it because the hitbox fad is the biggest meme right now and none of them are winning shit.
Current Capcom Cup winner won on a shitty ps4 pad.
Meanwhile Kawano was knocked out by two literal whos.
And Kawano won Evo before that. Him losing later doesn't invalidate hitbox. Frankly, I think the differences are way less than people make them out to be calling it 'cheatbox' but it's proof that hitbox is a viable peripheral and not the meme people used to treat keyboard as.
This 100% applies to all Resident evil games from RE4 OG and onwards.
You're too young to remember the og port of RE4
the 'advantage' pad should have over kb/m is the analog stick.
but either devs aren't creative enough or the stick is a bitch to work with because rarely they make good use of it
The reason devs don't make good use of the sticks is that the sticks aren't precise enough. The range of movement is really small which makes it hard for players to do precise movements, and most controllers use simple potentiometers which themselves are very inaccurate and require using dead zones for input just to avoid unintentional movement in the resting position.
Why? Playing on keyboard is usually harder
Steam Deck layout is pretty much perfect. I almost never use the analog sticks, almost exclusively the touchpads. I hope they make a Steam Controller 2 with the same layout so the controls aren't stuck on this tiny ass screen
You can't lean back and relax on a couch with mouse and keyboard...
>3d platformers are better with keyboard and mouse
every time I think this website can't get more contrarian it outdoes itself
>have magical machine that accepts literally every input device
>limit yourself to one
third world thread?
