      This

Buying is not owning the product. But also Piracy is not owning the product. It is unlicensed accessing. You still own nothing no matter how you download digital content

        Anonymous

ownership is not derived from law, it is a matter of fact

          Anonymous

Ownership is a right. You are subject to the law to protect your right to your property.
If Laws didn't exist to protect your rights to ownership then your ownership rights would be based on your might. You could only own what you can keep everyone else from taking.
In reality you pay taxes and you depend on your rights and not your might to define your property.

But I can do whatever I want with the data, essentially making it my own. It will be mine until the government military enforces me not owning the data.

But you have no rights to the product nor it's data.
If you claimed to possess a wife. But I came and fricked your wife and you have no rights to her, and no power of your own to stop me, Is she really yours?
The owners of the proprietary software you pirate hold the rights to legally persecute you for pirating their data. Simply because you haven't been legally persecuted you delude yourself into thinking you own something

            Anonymous

And you do not own your own legal property. The government can take your land you "own" provided they give you a "just conpensation". Who decides what just compensation is? The government of course. So you truly own nothing

You are making weird claims that wouldn't apply to digital items, even in the scenario that someone comes to rob your fricking pc it wouldn't matter because the pirated game comes from a torrent which nobody can steal unless you go with a fantasy scenario where you kill all the possible seeders of the torrent continously for all eternity and also wipe its magnet url from the internet

            >In reality you pay taxes and you depend on your rights and not your might to define your property.
You're acting as if these two things are mutually exclusive. People can take advantage of their legal rights while using their might with discretion. Might that the state allows, might that the state doesn't bother cracking down on, and might that the state doesn't know about can all coexist with legal rights.

GoG is trying to phase those out and they are making multiplayer online only so you have to use their shitty awful launcher. They removed LAN in the Dawn of War games, adding a form of DRM to a game where it didn't have it anymore.
Just pirate if you want ownership.

        Anonymous

        >They removed LAN in the Dawn of War games
That was already done on the Steam version about 9 years ago, the GOG version never had LAN since it’s merely a copy of the Steam one.

          Anonymous

The retail versions still did and some European distributor called Gamersgate ((not to be confused with the Internet shitstorm that is just 1 letter less)) still had LAN. They could've patched it in. Given other titles were being added to only have online via a GoG account and they were even trying to have MTX in multiplayer Cyberpunk, I will never give them the benefit of the doubt. What good they were already ended when they went public.
Not all private companies are good (Steam isn't good either, for example), but a publicly traded company will 'always' be awful.

          >GoG is trying to phase those out
          Proof?

All I have for now, sadly, is
          >Just trust me bruh!
But I see the writing on the wall. I haven't bought a new game in years but I have seen other people complain about offline installers often being out of date or not being updated at all or missing features compared to downloading via the client. VtMB used to allow you to download an older version on their website and now you can only do so from their client.
They're already making the multiplayer of some games restricted when they don't have to be. The point of GoG was no DRM at all whatsoever. But now "It's only for the multiplayer!"
          Frick. Off. And. Die.

It made me realize that seeding stuff you love can potentially make the day of someone else with similar tastes to yours, so I always seed niche eroge visual novels, older movies/children shows and things that could potentially become difficult to find online.

But before you become a seeder, make sure you're sufficiently protected. I'm downloading and torrenting stuff illegally since I'm underage and flew under the radar that long, but my home already received 2 letters from some government agency since I started seeding heavily 6 months ago.

    >pirate game
    >make a backup copy
    >setup porate server that allows me and others to play online
    >can mod it however I please
    >don't have to worry about automatic updates or the company fricking with the game
    >can preserve settings, saves, mods and so on to either play again another time or share with others
The most hilarious part is how once companies figured out that piracy was getting in the way of their rampant israelitery and exploitation they started trying to stop it and not only fricked their own games up with DRM but also did it in vain because the games are so shit nobody even wants to pirate them anymore.

    >with physical games you OWN your game bro!
    >ok what's the advantage
    >well you can sell the game for pennies when you're done with it, effectively not owning it anymore!

You see, juden, I make sure to download offline copies of the games I really like. So that I can install and play them whenever I want, with or without ~~*internet*~~ access. And if you don't like it, I challenge you to come and take them from me.

    The year 2047.

"Delta Squad! Delta Squad! We've located one. We've found a gamer with a stockpile of dangerous contraband--a 2020s era hard disk full of DRM-less installers! I will transmit coordinates. We have governmental authorization to reclaim our partners' rightful property by any means necessary. Your mission is in infiltrate the dwelling and exfiltrate with the contraband. Be warned, the gamer may be armed and dangerous. Do not be fooled by any of his rants or screeds. He has likely been hardened by years of sovereign ownerist propaganda and is a danger to our partners and others. Be safe, Delta Squad."
