YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND. I *HAVE* TO PLAY THE GAMES IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER.

YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND.
I *HAVE* TO PLAY THE GAMES IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER.
THE ONLY TIME I WILL PLAY RELEASE ORDER IS IF RELEASE ORDER IS CHRONOLOGICAL.
MGS3 COMES BEFORE MGS2 I'M SORRY ANON.
I CAN'T ENJOY THESE GAMES UNLESS I FOLLOW THE STORY CHRONOLOGICALLY.
ANACHRONISM TRIGGERS ME. I DON'T WANT TO PLAY A GAME THAT TAKES PLACE IN THE FUTURE AND THE NEXT GAME TAKES PLACE IN THE 60s.
THAT JUST DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. UNLESS WE WERE IN THE 50s, THE 60s COME BEFORE THE FUTURE.

    >brb releasing prequels to every single series you enjoy except with massive control scheme shifts for no reason

I don't mind massive gameplay shifts. Sometimes gameplay gets boring if you play it too much. I was real excited to play Metal Gear after I beat MGSV because I was real tired of PW and MGSV's gameplay. Then by the time I went to play MGS I was tired of the MSX gameplay. And before I knew it the series was over and I had a big hole in my heart.

I haven’t seen any morons like that. Autists usually play in order of release

      >I haven’t seen any morons like that. Autists usually play in order of release
Well you just saw one because I'm one of those autists who have to play in chronological order.
For games that take place inside the timeframe of another game, I put the first game on hold and play through the other game and when I'm done I come back to the original game.

What order do you play Mario in?

The only Mario game I've ever played is the one of NES. I'm not really a fan of platformers. Is there a chronology to Mario? Idk.
Sometimes release order is chronological though. Like the Persona games for the most part.

SMT was really hard for me to play in chronological order. Since even though some games are dated before others, said games take place farther down the timeline in the games. Like Raidou Kuzunoha only can actually take place after SMTII since in Raidou XL time travels from SMTII into Raidou XIV's time. So the events of the game couldn't happen without SMTII happening first. So it's technically after SMTII chronologically.

What are you thoughts on the Metroid series OP? I'm sure it drives you nuts. Apparently the story chronology is thus:

    Metroid/Zero Mission
    Metroid Prime Trilogy
    Metroid II
    Super Metroid
    Metroid Other M
    Metroid Fusion
    Metroid Dread

That shit is all over the place in terms of actual release dates.

Haven't played Metroid. I'm not a big Nintendo guy if I'm gonna be honest. But I'll eventually get to it.
I don't mind playing older games after new ones either. But I think that doing it that way give you more of an objective opinion. Since playing release order allows you to see how the games evolve over time. Playing chronological lets you look at the games individually.
I'm sure I'll eventually get around Metroid though, but I've been focused on Shin Megami Tensei because it has so many games.

    weird flex but okay

3 doesn't make as much sense if you haven't played one or two

Idk i think a value my experience with Metal Gear more than I would've playing it in release order. Like putting in hundred of hours of effort just to play as the guy who's job is to tear it all down. Seeing people I knew as friends turn into my enemies. That just makes the series feel more real to me.

Not good. The guy making it is too self-aware now. It's not funny anymore.

It's moving along at a consistent pace last I checked since a group of fans do the art for most pages while Lazerbot does the script. There's a lot of shit that's happened since you fell off.

prequel games usually have references to the game that preceded them, you completely miss this by playing in chronological order, not to mention the fact that the games can potentially get mechanically worse if you play this way, like going from MGS3 to MGS1 or 2 is going to make 1 and 2 feel like shit by comparison

Well let's take MGS3 and MGS2 as an example again.
I totally didn't get the Raiden mask and Raikov character the first time through. But when I eventually got to MGS2, it came full circle. Like it felt like MGS2 was referencing MGS3 in a way.
I don't care about the difference in mechanics though, tbh. I can contextualize each game. I know Mgs1 is going to be more difficult to handle and have more primitive controls than MGSV. I don't mind older games at all. MGS1-3 all have similar gameplay (just gets more polished and has different gimmicks through time) but the main concept is basically the same.

This is like watching the MCU in chronological order, the post-credit scenes usually foreshadow and/or tease the next movie in release order.
The second movie in chronological order is Captain Marvel, which you have to watch before Iron Man 1.
Which breaks the flow of the storytelling as Captain Marvel isn't mentioned again until the mid-credits scene of Avengers: Infinity War. And the mid-credits scene of Captain Marvel will spoil the ending of Infinity War and confuse people who just watched Captain Marvel as their second film. It would also have some buildup for Endgame, which wouldn't happen for 20 more movies.
Going back to The First Avenger, its ending has Nick Fury recruit Steve Rogers for the Avengers Initiative, which was originally built up in the first two Iron Man films.

Then again, chronological orders can work sometimes.
Watching Star Wars: The Clone Wars in chronological order has you start with the Season 2 episode cat & Mouse, which is a good episode. But watching in release order means you have to start with the terrible theatrical pilot movie.
First impressions matter in series like this so starting out with a terrible movie will probably have people quit watching the show prematurely.

Twin Peaks is a show where you have to watch in release order.
Fire Walk With Me is a prequel that makes zero sense if you haven't seen the first two seasons of the show. Whereas it would actually clarify things and answer the audience's questions when viewed after the first two seasons show.
