        >Understandable from a marketing perspective
Almost like that's a huge chunk of the business. They want to pus their system and that means they want and will push for exclusive content.

They would be forced to compete by having better hardware and online services, the incentive is you buy the least shit box.

The normal consumer layman isn't gonna dig too deeply into that. You should them a killer app and they get it instantly, they're not gonna deep dive to figure out how the net code works so long as it does work.

It's just kind of a reality of the industry. It'd be nice if it was a big charity designed to supply everyone with all the games they want for free, but it isn't. A lot of games you like straight up wouldn't exist, if it wasn't for fierce competition.

Console exclusivity is the only purpose for consoles. To wish for console exclusivity is to end the beneficial arms race of devs out performing each other. To wish for PC Ports is wishing for consoles to die, and games to become all the same as all markets are the same.

It'll all be PC soon enough. Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft will basically sell steamdecks and peripherals, some of which are tailored to their own licenses. You'll finally be able to legally play Nintendo games on hardware that won't drop frames, but you'll have to play on a saxophone controller with 13 buttons and 3 joysticks.

I hope you didn't like other games like Mario, because they're going to be competing with Mario, and will lose. Multiversus will be dead because now people can just play Smash on PC. This pattern will repeat over and over; the consolidation of groups into smaller and smaller numbers of games. Even Nintendo would stoop as low as Games as a Service. When everything shares the same platform, any originality would quickly die off and a few monolithic godheads would remain.

All the games will be on PC, and there will be nothing to play.

There are other games like Mario that sell on Switch. Originality won't die off just because devs won't be able to create a clone of an exclusive game and release it on other consoles. It will boost it since they'll have to make new games.

I hate exclusivity in general but I think it can make sense specifically for pc exclusivity, like when you are porting say xcom 2 to consoles.

Most of your audience is going to be on pc and the nature of the games control scheme means that its really not meant for a controller, Id rather that development time go to polish. Of course I believe often the porting to other consoles is handled by third party contractors which makes that point nil.

Turn-based games are actually pretty easy to port to consoles. Even if your control scheme is clunky it won't affect player's ability to play the game well in a big way.

Piracy doesn't have a major effect on consumption, people will always see consoles as an easier avenue of playing. Not all are PC Mustard Rapists, they just want easy vidya wherever they can get it.

      >multi-platform development dilutes design
Not these days when everyone uses the same Unity and UE to develop games.
      >follow-on support takes more time and involves more complications
Not really. Making a PC port with Unity and UE is as easy as pressing a couple of buttons in the UI menu. To make a good console port out of a PC game depends heavily on the genre, some games translate better to gamepads than others.
      >PC/ console crossplay is dogshit and is usually instituted as opt-out which gives you horrible matchmaking
Correction: Used to be dogshit in most games. Not counting shitty EA games like Apex Legends with broken auto-aim, most games quickly realized that mouse+keyboard dominate over gamepad in MMR, so most games now separate matchmaking between the two control schemes. Meaning if you use mouse on a console version of the game, you play with the PC players and vice versa.

The reason everything gets a Steam version nowadays is simply because making a PC port and publishing it on Steam is so cheap and easy that a retarded toddler could do it. Japanese companies like Koei Tecmo and FromSoft dumped their game collections to Steam and quickly realized it makes a lot of money for zero effort.

Console exclusivity used to be what was driving the best games in the industry, if you need people to be buying your platform over somebody else's you need those killer apps to get people on your side. Now that that's mostly dead games are getting shittier and you have multiplatform whore games that are buggy and gay, the best they can do is be like "it plays slightly better on OUR platform!" or "you can play it a year earlier!" and that's it. >Does he realize how retarded he sounds
He thinks games are like movies, you pump out the code and all machines equally run it easily, not understanding that different power levels (CPU/RAM/GPU) and architectures exist
      >"J-just film it on the cartridge and let all the kids play jeez!"
      He's a confused old man

        >other than the hardware
No console maker makes GPUs, RAM, CPUs, they are all at the mercy of the current market.
        You're confused.

Maybe 2 gens ago this mattered but now the consoles and PC all have similar hardware. All the games play virtually the same on them.

            What?
            >but now the consoles and PC all have similar hardware
Which is exactly what happened due to chasing multiplats instead of exclusives.

he only says this because he knows nintendo will never actually do it, he just wants every other console to die so his glorious childhood platform can be on top again

I root for games to be exclusive because of the seething it causes. I may never play it but seeing fags beg for ports and shit is hilarious.

      >bro just let all the platforms get all the games
Does he realize how retarded he sounds
If every game is on every platform, what incentivizes me to buy another platform other than the hardware? The companies will inevitably invent some exclusive feature, hence exclusive games to each platform
Not to mention not all platforms are similar, like DS games are for a DS and not a fucking PSP. If everyone standardizes every gaming experience, then you get modern Sony and whatever latest TPS they shit out this year.

What a nice background pic of Samus and Pitfall Harry, the real parents of the so-called "Metroidvania" subgenre. Sorry, Simon.

No. Fuck off. Exclusives on my favorite console means it is more likely for my favorite console to be successful. If my favorite console does well there will more likely be more consoles like it in the future. It directly benefits me in the future. Why is it so hard for you gays to understand shit like this.

If all consoles have the same games, why would you need to pick a favorite console

Because consoles are more than just their games. They have UI, features, hardware, and other possible innovations. It can go either way too. The success of the switch means we're getting other cool hybrids like the steam deck. It go the other way too. The success of the wii made sony and microsft try to shove motion control down everyones throats.

Console exclusives should have stopped existing once the differences between machines became nothing more than "this one can render 5% more polygons than the other". Except for Nintendo (since they've actually been trying unique shit with their consoles) no console exclusive should have existed after the PS2 generation.

Except Nintendo's hardware is the cheapest shittiest garbage and easiest for same generation PCs to emulate. By that logic tendie boxes should have exactly zero exclusives, you dumbass fuckin ninchud

      >Except for Nintendo (since they've actually been trying unique shit with their consoles)
In what way is rebranding a hardware company's off-the-shelf tablet providing something "unique" that wasn't being provided before?
